A 5 Year Strategy The Direction

The organization completes an annual work planning process with its Members to establish activities delivered January 1 – December 31.

• The work plan consists of a combination of one year and multi year deliverables.

• This document provides details of annual projects by strategic direction.

Products & Services

Our Products and Services Goals speak to those priorities that best serve improvements in patient outcomes through the evolution of SNOMED CT as a product as well as supporting interoperability through collaboration and ways of working with other health information standards. The continued understanding and illustration of the value offered by SNOMED CT is also a key strategic imperative.

Item Scope

SNOMED CT Evolution:

Evolve SCT to best serve improvements in patient outcomes and meet the needs of the integrated health and social care systems in a sustainable fashion.

SNOMED CT as a Service:

• Production of a sustainable and more maintainable product through a global terminology incorporating local extensions around a SNOMED CT Core:

Local country service distribution points begin to appear Refine service level agreements based on use Better business information via service usage analytics

Core, International & Community Content

• Identify the scope of the core content of the SNOMED CT International Release and the content of the Community Release: First round of clinical core review

Content Development Roadmap

• Identify and address gaps in SNOMED CT based on value proposition and stakeholder requirements: Continuation of QI iteration #3

• Content requirements in the area of Social Care are known and implementation is planned: Social Care content development

Proposition:

SCT Value Proposition: Extend the SNOMED CT value proposition to highlight improvements in patient outcomes and determine and validate all stakeholder benefits including integrating remuneration, research, public health information flows and semantic interoperability into the value proposition of SNOMED CT.

Adoption

Adoption Goals focus on the mechanisms, tools, and resources needed to increase adoption, consumption and implementation of SNOMED CT among clinicians and additional valued stakeholders.

Item Scope

Adoption & Consumption:

Increase adoption and consumption of SCT for Members, suppliers, researchers and other SCT users by ensuring it is pragmatic, effective and verifiable.

Channel Strategies

• Develop channel strategies for key stakeholder groups: Measure adoption and consumption against digital maturity model for each stakeholder Adjust channel strategy as required

Education & Onboarding

• Develop relevant education and onboarding tailored to meet the needs of different stakeholder groups: Partner with education delivery partners based on stakeholder requirements Assess education delivery partners

• Accreditation & Certification Framework: Develop an appropriate framework for SCT to support accreditation/certification of vendors and systems ensuring that cost is not a barrier to entry for new/small vendors: Engage stakeholders and evaluate and refine Accreditation and Certification framework

Emerging Technologies

Leverage emerging technologies (e.g. AI) to deliver value for stakeholders and drive efficiencies both at the point of care, across the organization and the evolution of the product

• Produce environmental assessment in relation to use of emerging technologies at SNOMED International:

- Continued assessment of all skills requirements

Resource plan updated

Continue to investigate innovative solutions internally using emerging technologies - showcase projects that deliver against GA approved initiatives (e.g. coding, cost reduction, improved experience, etc.)
