Dr. Leslie Campbell Hello! I am Leslie Campbell and I teach in the business administration department.

I am also the director of the international business Ph.D program. I have been at SNHU for five years.

Advice for students Why I chose SNHU

I chose to work at Southern New Hampshire University as an opportunity to develop myself professionally as a faculty member but also personally as well. I also chose to come to SNHU because of the many opportunities faculty members have to interact with students. Not just in the classroom but as academic advisors and advisors to their clubs as well.

Why I became interested in my field I am interested in teaching in the business administration department and the school of business because I worked in the business field for nearly twenty-five years before becoming a professor. So teaching in this area gives me the opportunity to share some practical knowledge with students. In the classroom, I can share what the textbook suggests as theories and concepts and how that applies in the real-world business environment.

If I had advice for students, I would definitely recommend doing an internship. It is great for your professional career and personal development. This will give you the chance to develop critical business skills as well as grow your network. Even if the internship doesn't work out or is something that you didn't enjoy, at least you have learned this is something that you don't want to do again.

I would also recommend taking a course outside of your comfort zone. I know that we have required courses in general education, but definitely take that opportunity to take courses that are outside of your interest area. Maybe an art class or a history class or something else. This will help you to build new perspectives. And finally, never hesitate to reach out to a faculty member if you are struggling in their course. We are here to see you succeed. If you reach out to us, I guarantee that your faculty will be there for you.

Budgeting for a New Year New year’s represents a new fresh starts for many, this includes an improved financial life, but how do you start? We have gathered some tips to help you plan your finances in a smart way you can reach your goals in 2022: 1- Be realistic with your goals: the first thing you need is to set realistic goals, do you want to buy a house?

Spend less money? Whatever is you’re aiming for, must be realistic with the time frame and possibilities you have.

2- Review your expenses: gather your previous bills and verify what you’re spending money on: leisure, eating out, online shopping, etc; and how you can improve these expenses.

3- Make a budget: once you’ve defined your goals and expenses you can stablish how you’ll like to plan your finances, there are many

tools to help you like the “50-20-30 Budget Rule” which proposes 50% of your income to be spent on needs, 20% on savings and 30% on leisure. There are also templates on worksheets, software’s, and apps like PocketGuard or You Need a Budget.

-Invest: a separate budget for future investment, even if it’s a small amount, eventually it could be enough for investing in a business, stocks, property, or others.

-Pay down debt: while planning your budget make sure you have enough room to pay down any debt you may have or could have in the future, including credit cards or loans.

5- Keep track of future expenses: saving your receipts and reviewing at the end of the week or month is a good way to be realistic and notice where your expenses are occurring the most.
