Mayor’s Message - Mayor Barbara Bender
We are rolling into the hot, humid days of summer with a full calendar of events on the Towne Greene and also in The Grove at Snellville Towne Center.
Keep up with all that is going on by visiting the Experience Snellville website and The Grove’s at www.snellville.gov/events-grove. The Snellville Farmer’s Market is in full swing with lots of returning favorites along with some new vendors to check out.
We are very excited to have all the restaurants opened in The Grove. The splash pad is on and it is fun to see the families and friends gathering in the park to visit and make new friends. This is truly what it is all about…to have that community gathering space where we can meet face to face find out how much we have in common.
Talking trash, the roll out of the new 95-gallon sanitation carts is continuing. While the vendor is still the same, there were some improvements in the services provided. Check out the information below to get the details on the changes in store.
Gwinnett County Department of Transportation is continuing
Snellville Public Works
work on delivering the roundabout at Oak Road and Mountain View. It is possible construction may start later this year so be on the look out for some disruptions once you see the crews in the area. The city will keep you up to date on the website and social media once we receive news of dates.
The Snellville Community Center in T.W. Briscoe Park work is continuing with completion expected in early fall. Rain and supply chain issues delayed the project a few months, however, everything is moving well now.
On behalf of the entire City Council and city staff, we hope you have a restful and peaceful summer. Make your plans to come out and meet your neighbors at the many events available and be sure to introduce yourself when you see one of your City Councilmembers.
We are always happy to stop and chat.

The Snellville Police Department strives to create a bond with the community it serves. To that end, officers are constantly in the community, building relationships with residents, young and old alike. Here are a few recent community-building endeavors. 3. 1. 2. 4.
1. Officer Hermel gave a presentation to middle school students attending the Law Enforcement Summer Camp through the Gwinnett County Public Schools. The presentation focused on the role and responsibilities of police officers, the various specialized units within law enforcement, careers in law enforcement and the tools and equipment commonly used in police work.
2. Officers participated in the annual Super Safety Event at Old Navy in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The event was designed to promote child safety awareness, provide valuable safety resources, and encourage important conversations between parents and children. During the event, officers engaged with families, distributed educational materials on online safety, child identification records, and car seat safety, and provided coloring activities for children.
3. The Snellville Citizens Police Academy celebrated the graduation of its 37th class, recognizing participants for successfully completing the program and gaining a deeper understanding of law enforcement operations and community policing.
4. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dunkin’ Donuts at 2115 Main St. in Snellville for their valued partnership and support of the Cops at Donut Shops event benefiting Special Olympics. Their commitment to this meaningful cause helped make the event a success and further the mission of supporting athletes with disabilities.

Single Port Robot
The Single Port da Vinci robot brings a new level of precision to minimally invasive procedures. Using a single 2.5 cm incision, all instruments of the robot enter together and expand, giving surgeons exceptional control in a very small space. For patients, that means less tissue trauma, less pain, and a faster recovery. Piedmont Eastside is proud to offer this cutting-edge technology for urology procedures.
ION Robot
The ION robot helps physicians detect lung cancer earlier by using an ultrathin, precision guided catheter to reach all 18 segments of the lung. Doctors can collect samples and evaluate concerning nodules with accuracy. The earlier the diagnosis, the better the chances for effective treatment.

Snellville has ties to 2027 Poppy Anchor event
Since 1921, the poppy has been recognized as our National Symbol of Remembrance for our military heroes who sacrificed their lives defending our country and our freedoms.
This recognition was the direct result of a campaign spearheaded by Moina Michael, a teacher from Good Hope, Ga. She also established the Poppy Anchor Program to memorialize those military heroes who lost their lives at sea. The Moina Michael Memorial Poppy Anchor is a continuation of the tradition of Remembrance.
Annually, the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Georgia sponsors the construction, dedication and launching of a fivefoot Poppy Anchor consisting of 11,600 hand made poppies. The poppies are inlaid onto an anchor frame. Upon completion, the Poppy Anchor is dedicated in a solemn ceremony. On Memorial Day, the Poppy Anchor is transported to Tybee Island Ga., to be carried out via boat approximately seven miles out to the
Atlantic. The Anchor is then committed to the deep. As the red of the poppy’s color the water, a heartfelt ceremony is conducted in remembrance of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, for our freedoms.
The construction of the Moina Michael Memorial Poppy Anchor for Memorial Day, May 24, 2027 launching will consist of ALA Department of Georgia Unit level participation from District 9.
Our Snellville ALA Unit 232, is honored to be a part of the Construction Committee for this upcoming year.

Community Garden @ Snellville
Community spirit blooms at garden workday
By Charlene Britt Community Garden Coordinator
A little rain couldn’t dampen the energy at the Community Garden @Snellville on Saturday, May 23, as members of the greenhouse team and volunteer gardeners came together for a Volunteer Garden Workday focused on caring for the garden’s shared spaces.
At the heart of the Community Garden @Snellville is a spirit of volunteerism and stewardship. While gardeners care for their individual plots, they also share a commitment to maintaining the common spaces that bring beauty and enjoyment to the entire garden community. As part of their commitment, members contribute volunteer service hours each year to support these shared areas. Workdays like this provide an opportunity to work side-by-side with fellow gardeners, strengthen relationships, and make a lasting impact on both the garden and the community it serves.
Volunteers focused their efforts on cleaning and refreshing the Calendar Garden and gazebo area, along with organizing materials around the greenhouse, maintaining the rain barrel system, and completing general cleanup throughout the property.
The greenhouse team also planted surplus vegetable plants in designated donation-growing areas. These plants came from the success of the greenhouse team’s Spring Plant Sale, which was
once again a tremendous success. The harvest from these plantings will be shared with local organizations, helping provide fresh, locally grown food to those in need.
A meaningful highlight of the day was the installation of a memorial trellis in honor of longtime garden supporter and donor Mike Stock, who recently passed away. Mike’s generosity and commitment to the garden supported many programs and improvements over the years.
Volunteers planted clematis vines at the base of the trellis, which will grow and bloom into a living tribute that reflects Mike’s lasting impact and the spirit of growth and community he helped foster.
Despite the weather, volunteers showed incredible dedication, helping ensure the shared spaces remain welcoming, well maintained, and ready for all to enjoy. Their efforts continue to support the garden’s mission of community service, education, and giving back.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day a success. Your time and commitment ensure the garden continues to flourish for years to come.
