Fall Colors Will Bring Out the Wayne County Scarecrows!
WAYNE CO. - The leaves are changing, so it’s time to start building your scarecrow to display at the Harvest Time Scarecrow Festival in Wayne County. Last year, dozens of scarecrows could be found in yards and storefronts from
Loa to Hanksville. This year we’re hoping for even more participation. We look forward to visitors from throughout the state coming to see our Wayne County scarecrows! Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations are all encouraged to create and display their scarecrows throughout the month of October. Registered scarecrows are eligible for awards including the “People’s Choice” awards. To register your scarecrow, go to http://goo.gl/NnHTmf and complete the online form. A volunteer will bring you an of-
ficial number and photograph your scarecrow. Each weekend in October, there will be events held throughout the county sponsored by various organizations including Entrada Institute, 4-H, and Capitol Reef National Park. The festival will end with a family costume party at the Rim Rock Restaurant on Saturday October 25th. If you’re planning an event associated with the festival, please let us know at info@ entradainstitute.org so we can get your event into the upcoming fliers. Over the next couple weeks, we’ll be sharing additional information about this exciting month-long event. Events and information will be posted at http://www.entradainstitute.org/scarecrow/ and also the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ HarvestTimeScarecrowFest ―Annette Lamb

a decision was made to have an all volunteer staff headed by Beverly Lowe, Manager, along with a thrift store sub-committee. This committee was formed to manage the needs of the store and staff and to continue to improve the appearance of the store. Jodi Pouliot heads this subcommittee and the other members are Becky Yard, Linda Langley, Rochelle Mitchelly, Beverly Lowe and Bobbi Bryant-Salvato. A major
goal of this sub-committee was to increase sales each and every month. And this they have achieved! Many volunteers came to help with the total remodel and decorating of the interior of the building which was completed this past spring. On the exterior you will now see the name of the thrift store prominently displayed and on the interior new
PANGUITCH - Garfield County’s Bryce Canyon Country will have more money in 2015 to promote itself as a unique travel destination thanks to a nearly $150,000 grant from the Utah Office of Tourism. “Tourism is the lifeblood of Bryce Canyon Country,” said Falyn Owens, executive director of the Garfield County Tourism Office. “This grant allows us to attract more visitors who will spend money at our local hotels, restaurants and shops.” The state awarded the county a full, dollar-fordollar match of its out-of-state marketing budget, essentially doubling the tourism office’s ability to lure potential visitors to destinations such as Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Scenic Byway 12, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. “People are blown away when they stand on the rim of Bryce Canyon,” said Lance Syrett, tourism board member and general manager of Ruby’s Inn. “The increased advertising will help us reach a broader audience and show potential visitors what awaits them here.” The total available funds Tourism

Music making is a great tool for children to experience fun and creativity in approaching daily lessons in language, math, science, and social studies and other elementary course work. We anticipate wonderful outcomes as our young students explore the rich content of daily classroom studies through a new window of musical experience. In addition to the grant funded BTSAP elementary school programs, Panguitch and Bryce Valley High Schools have introduced two new music classes to their course work. Introduction to Orchestra for students 7-12 and General Music for seventh and eighth grade students offer opportunities for students to develop instrumental skills and musical understanding in the classroom setting. We encourage our communities to support these new programs. Look for calendars featuring our orchestras performing soon!
