The Boulder Heritage Festival on July 15 & 16 will celebrate all things 'Boulder' including mail delivery from Escalante to Boulder by the Boulder Mail Trail, during both historic (above) and modern (left) times.

BOULDER - The Boulder Heritage Festival will be held on Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th at the Anasazi State Park in Boulder. This year all the great photos of the area both past and present will be the focus of the festival. In conjunction with the festival, there will be a scanning event as a part of the “History in Your Attic” project which BYU provides high quality scanners and staff to scan old photos of the area. You can bring up to 10 photos (more if time allows). Scanning staff is available from 9am to 5pm. You can also set an appointment to scan your photos by calling Cheryl Cox at 335-7550.

There will be a presentation on Friday at 11:30am about the “History in the Attic” project. On Saturday at 11:30, you can come and see the old photos of the area scanned at previous events and help identify who is in the pictures and where they were taken. Other presentations on Friday include “The First Photo Stories – Pictographs & Petroglyphs” with Joe Pachek at 1:30pm. At 3pm enjoy the beautiful photos of the hikes of Sandra Hammack-Brown with the presentation “Take a Hike.” There will also be photo displays from the last twelve years of great Boulder Heritage Festival and other photo events.

As a part of this theme this year, there will be contests with cash prizes for the best selfie at the festival (#BoulderHeritageFestivalSelfie) and best festival “Wow” picture (#BoulderHeritageFestivalWow) and of course best dance moves (BoulderHeritageFestivaldancemoves) that you post on our Facebook page and/or hash tagged for our Instagram. As always, there will be great music both days from 12pm until 10pm with local favorites Patrick Briggs, Mary Kay and the Kaye Sisters, Otter Creek, Mat & Vikki Thorn, Bohemian Cowboy, Unknown Quantity, Juniper City, Kenny Hall, Bob Phillips, Curtis and Sage, Sara B, and Juan Holladay. There will also be bands from out of state including Barefoot and Pregnant, Junction 10, and Action Pants as well as musician and hip hop artist, Phillip Morgan and old country duo Jimmy Pines & Washboard Jere. Finally don’t forget all the great food provided by local vendors and of course the

Dutch oven dinner will be on Saturday around 6pm. We will have kids’ art activities and you can even get a letter in the mail after it makes the trip with Breck Crystal and crew across the Old Mail Trail on Friday arriving with great fanfare around 5pm. Just get your letters to Pole’s Place or the Anasazi Museum by July 13th. This is the event of the summer, don’t miss it. —Cheryl Cox, Boulder Heritage Foundation

BRYCE CANYON Bryce Canyon National Park invites you to join them for the 10th Annual Geology Festival July 15-16, 2016. This year’s theme is “Exploring the Eocene Epoch: Dawn of Modern Mammals”, which is the time when the rocks of Bryce Canyon were forming. Join guest speaker, Dr. L. Greer Price of the New Mexico Geological Survey as he presents “Earth Sciences for the 21st Century: Where we’ve been and where we’re going”. Please join us for two days of fun family activities learning about geology of Utah’s public lands and how Bryce Canyon National Park was formed and why it is not a ‘real canyon’. Enjoy guided hikes, geology presentations and demonstrations, children activities, and rock and fossil displays.

The Visitor Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with activities on the patio from 9 to 3:00 p.m. daily. The evening program at the Bryce Canyon Lodge Auditorium will begin at 7:00 p.m., with a preshow showcasing the 59 national parks.
