Popular Utah Classical Guitarist to Perform in Free Torrey Concert TEASDALE - Michael Lucarelli, a popular Utah classical guitarist whose music blends classical, popular, jazz, Spanish, South American, and original compositions will perform Friday, June 26 at the DUP Schoolhouse, Main Street, Torrey. The free concert starts at 7:00PM Lucarelli performs throughout the US and has a high profile in the greater Salt Lake area, where he lives. His YouTube musical offerings of guitar performances in exotic landscapes have received 20+ million views. Commenting on his style, the British publication, Classical Guitar Magazine wrote, "Lucarelli gets to the soul of this music and gives a fine interpretation, whetting the appetite... a fine, well performed, thoughtful program from a very engaging player." He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah and a Masters in Guitar Performance from the University of Arizona. He has appeared in numerous radio and television programs including Touched By An Angel and is a recipient of two Individual Artist grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. This will be the second of four free concerts in Wayne County hosted by the Utah Classical Guitar Society. The next concert, Friday, July 17, also at the DUP Schoolhouse, features master musicians Eric Nelson and Mike Christiansen, whose Logan-based Lightwood Duo pairs guitar and clarinet in a repertoire of classical, jazz, rock, Latin jazz, Celtic, and film music. Celebrate the Sky During Bryce Canyon’s Astronomy Festival June 17-20, 2015 BRYCE CANYON Bryce Canyon National Park invites you to join us for the 15th annual Astronomy Festival June 17-20, 2015. “Through the ages, the night sky has drawn our gaze upwards, connecting us to our heritage. Bryce Canyon is a perfect place to experience such clarity and wonder with its renowned dark skies,” said park superintendent Lisa E. Eckert. This year’s festival features familiar favorites, such as star gazing with telescopes and rocket building, as well as new presentations. Keynote speaker Derek J. Demeter, Director of the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium at Seminole State College of Florida, presents “The Story of the Universe” at 9:30 p.m., Friday June 19th at Ebenezer’s Barn and Grill in Bryce Canyon City. This event costs $3.00/per person or $10.00/ family (other programs have no cost, but may require tickets due to seating space). The event’s partners include the Salt Lake Astronomical Society, Celestron LLC, and the St. George Astronomy Group. These partners, along with Bryce Canyon National Park’s “Dark Rangers” will be on hand to interpret the night sky following each evening program. Planetarium educator Dr. Amy Sayle will dazzle us with “Star Stories and Assistant Professor Rob Owen, from Oberlin College, will examine the movie industry and physics of the real world in “When Hollywood Gets the Science Right.” The Visitor Center will
be open from 8:00 a.m. to midnight each day of the festival. Utah Business, Agricultural Producers Receive Grants for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects Teasdale Business Among Grant Recipients SALT LAKE CITY – Dave Conine, USDA Rural Development State Director, announced last week that USDA is investing $43,021 in three renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Utah. “Renewable energy is a crucial component to growth in Utah’s rural communities.” Conine said. “These grants will help Utah producers and a business owner make improvements to ensure their work contributes to the economic vibrancy of our state well into the future.”
The funding is provided through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), created by the 2002 Farm Bill and reauthorized by the 2014 Farm Bill. REAP funding has helped farmers expand renewable energy use in recent years. The new Census of Agriculture shows the number of farms utilizing renewable energy production has doubled in the last five years. The grant recipients in Utah include: • Chad Mortensen of Marion’s Variety in Roosevelt received a grant of $17,296

Artists could be found painting along roadsides in and around Capitol Reef National Park during the arts event June 9-12. enjoyed art workshops during the event. Classes were held for both beginners and experienced adult painters. Two days of workshops were offered for youth at the Ripple Rock Nature Center in Capitol Reef National Park. On Friday evening an reception, auction, and award ceremony was held at Cougar Ridge Lodge near Torrey. Lola Karchner took first prize for her work “Spring Canyon.” Second prize went to Jeanne Hansen for “Before the Rock There Was Beach” and third
prize went to Colleen Reynolds for “Panorama Point”. Honorable mentions including Sherry Meidell for “Twin Rocks”, Joyce Baron for “First Light” and local Teasdale resident Susan Kendall for “Near Mile Marker 78 on Hwy 24”. Thanks to the Entrada Institute, Utah Watercolor Society, Capitol Reef National Park, Bad Dog Arts, Torrey Town, Cougar Ridge Lodge, and many others who made this event a success. —Annette Lamb
