Free Admission to Bryce Canyon During National Park Week in April
BRYCE CANYON - As part of this year’s National Park Week and in honor of the National Park Service’s centennial year, Bryce Canyon National Park will offer free Admission from April 16-24. “National Park Week is a great time to visit Bryce Canyon for anyone who wants a budgetfriendly vacation or getaway this spring,” said Falyn Owens, executive director of Garfield County’s tourism office. “This is especially good news for anyone who has never seen the park before and wants to see why it’s such a popular destination.” Bryce Canyon Country offers a variety of outdoor activities for both thrill-seekers and families looking for a relaxing getaway. Hiking, camping, horseback riding and canyoneering are some of the many ways to enjoy the unique terrain
and scenic vistas. “Visitors won’t want to miss driving along our scenic byways while they’re here for the National Park Week,” Owens said. “National Scenic Byway 12-Utah’s All-American Road is rated one of The top 10 drives in America, and Scenic Byway 143-Utah’s Patchwork Parkway is especially beautiful this time of year.” The national park is also home to the world’s largest collection of hoodoos—tall rock spires of varying colors and thickness. These rare geological formations are especially picturesque at sunrise and sunset when the bright sun casts shadows through the natural amphitheater. “Spring is the best time to visit the park as we haven’t hit the busiest season yet, but the weather is ideal,” Owens said. “Our visitors love coming this
time of year as prices are generally lower and crowds aren’t nearly as busy.” As part of its centennial celebrations, the National Park Service has kicked off a multiregional campaign called “Explore Five More” to help visitors discover Courtesy Garfield County tourism offiCe other hidden gems just Beautiful Bryce Canyon as it is a short distance from the waking up for spring. larger parks. TORREY - We need a volunteer to coordinate the Apple Days Book Sale. We’re also seeking people to help collect donations and help with the table on the afternoon of July 2. Since 1998, the Apple Days Book Sale has been an integral part of the Entrada Institute’s fundraising efforts to raise money for Wayne High Scholarship Fund. This year, the event will move back to the Robber’s Roost grounds the afternoon of the Apple Days Music event on July 2. We’re seeking someone to take over this important project. This is what’s involved: 1) Coordinating with Annette Lamb to get a “Call for Books” and “Buy Books” fliers put in the newspaper and Facebook. 2) Posting a few fliers around the county (i.e., Chuckwagon, Royals, etc). 3) Identifying a place where books can be gathered. 4) Transporting books to event and setting up tables. 5) Identifying a few community volunteers to help. 6) Collecting donations. An alternative or additional date could be the Saturday of Pioneer weekend July 23. Or, it could be held at the Wayne County Fair on Saturday 20 in Loa Park. Seriously, we need someone to take this on. Or, someone who is willing to step forward and make an annual contribution to the scholarship fund in lieu of the book sale. If you’re willing to help, contact Annette Lamb at info@entradainstitute.org or message her on Facebook. Thanks for any ideas you might have regarding this program. —Annette Lamb, The Entrada Institute
