A HOW-TO GUIDE FOR

SAINT MARY’S UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA, YOUR LIFE, AND BEYOND.

SAINT MARY’S UNIVERSITY

HOW TO BUILD THE FUTURE YOU WANT. The world needs people with equal parts ambition and ethics: people willing to run to the challenge. Saint Mary’s University prepares you to be that kind of person. Our classrooms are the perfect places to pitch ideas and gain confidence with every piece of feedback. The one-of-a-kind ecosystem that’s our campus offers room to grow and space to think. Our hometown of Winona is a corporate hub, which means internships in fields from medicine to manufacturing. If you’re standing at your personal frontier searching for an opportunity to make an impact, here’s your answer: This is your time to become a Cardinal.

“ The one-on-one connections we have here are outstanding. To learn from and work with some amazing people is the best preparation I could get for grad school.”

— Samantha Amatuzio ’15

“ The person I’ve become, you can’t put a price on it. I don’t feel like I could have explored who I was if I hadn’t come here.”

— Andy Meyer ’15

Learn in a community devoted to you.

More than 330 years ago, Saint John Baptist de La Salle had two radical ideas: the aspirations of every individual matter, and education is the key to realizing them. His revolutionary rejection of elitism, combined with his belief in the power of intellectual potential, fuels everything we do at Saint Mary’s. Through intense but always supportive inquiry—in and out of the classroom—we discover the truths in the world around us and the character within us. You leave with much more than a credential: you have a sense of self, and meaningful connections for a lifetime.

“ Mary is more than My roommate—she’s My study partner, confidant, comedian, and family.”

— Theresa Niedzwiecki ’15 (pictured on the right. Mary’s on the left.)

IT’S WHO KNOWS YOU.

Student-tofaculty ratio is much more than a number.

Our professors are more than extraordinary teachers. They become your advocates and allies. They’re eager to share their expertise and passions—which include (and this is just a sampling) herpetology, contemporary music, homeland security, theological anthropology, and strategic management. And what happens when some of the most interesting people you’ve ever met are on your side? You’ll be encouraged to speak up, go for that internship or job, pursue that research question, and present at those conferences. Along the way, you’ll get invited over for a home-cooked meal or two.

GIVE YOURSELF EVERY OPPORTUNITY.

Winona boasts a diverse, healthy, high-tech economy, including the headquarters of many national and international brands such as Fastenal, Hal Leonard, Peerless Industrial Group, RTP, Watkins, Wenonah Canoe, and WinCraft Sports. Winona is surrounded by renowned major medical research facilities. The Saint Mary’s reputation for producing hard-working, smart interns will precede you—and open doors. What’s more, we provide off-campus and study abroad programs that will change the way you see the world. We call this the “Saint Mary’s moment.”

Theatre majors—as a degree requirement—spend a semester in London where they rehearse and perform a public show on a local stage. As far as we know, ours is the only undergraduate theatre program offering this experience... and we’ve been doing it for 20 years.
