These accomplished professors bring their depth of experience to the classroom, for your benefit, and our rich community of alumni brings the real world to you. d for a career THE SKILLS EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR

Theoretical knowledge is but one part of the equation. At Saint Mary’s, your academic education is balanced with an experiential one. Our curricula are based on actually experiencing the ideas being discussed, so our classrooms are labs of engagement. Which means you’ll be able to hit the ground running after you graduate. Co-op opportunities are available in every single faculty. Research opportunities are available after your first year. With 75 partnerships in 22 countries, you’ll be able to travel and study abroad for an international perspective.

Ashley Dawson, SMU grad 2012, studied Political Science and was a member of the Model United Nations travelling to New York City to learn first hand the consensus-building process of the UN.

INTERNATIONALLY CONNECTED The Saint Mary’s campus may be contained within a single city block, but the impact we make and inspiration we gain are global in scope. The University has active linkages with more than 180 institutions internationally, has implemented capacity-building projects and consultancies in more than 40 countries, and offers exchange programs in 22 countries at over 75 partner institutions. The map to the right puts these connections into perspective – and the featured stories below bring the human element into focus.

MAKING HISTORY IN NORMANDY, FRANCE Landing a co-op opportunity through Veterans Affairs at the Canadian Second World War Museum at Juno Beach, a SMU student dug deep into the tourism industry at WWII battle sites.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF INDUSTRY IN CHINA Tracing the connections between biology, human behaviour, and environmental degradation leads SMU students annually to the remote village of Xun Yang Ba in China.

MIAMI INTERNSHIP IN FORENSIC ANTHROPOLOGY Every other year, students in this course spend two weeks at the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department to get hands-on experience with forensic skeletal remains. It’s invaluable applied learning.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN BOLIVIA When SMU students travel for an internship in Cochabamba, Bolivia, they work to build capacity in increasing food security, securing a future for children and youth, and stimulating sustainable economic growth.

DELIVERING HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE GAMBIA SMU students from several disciplines travel regularly to this West African nation to conduct peer-health education programs focused on water safety, scarcity, 8

and pollution prevention.

A Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s sets you apart from the crowd in important ways. Home to an expansive offering of Humanities and Social Science majors, Saint Mary’s is the only university in Atlantic Canada to offer a co-op option in every single Arts major. Our Arts professors are noted leaders in innovative research, with a cutting-edge approach to learning. We offer Arts students opportunities to study and gain experience abroad. Saint Mary’s is the right choice for obtaining the academic and experiential foundation to move directly into a career – or on to graduate and professional programs. At Saint Mary’s, you are never alone on your journey. B.A. advisors in the Faculty of Arts will work with you to customize your degree to best meet your career and educational goals. If you’re unsure of your goals, advisors and other student services will help you find your focus. A Bachelor of Arts degree will prepare you for lifelong success.
