The St. Mark’s Robotics Team partnered with Victor Vescovo ’84 to design a sediment sample collector, which was successfully deployed during one of Victor’s dives to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in June 2020. Fifth-seven members of the Class of 2021 were honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program: 32 seniors were named Semifinalists and 25 were named Commended Scholars. Josh Mysore ’21 was awarded a virtual scholarship to study Hindi over the summer of 2020 by the National Security Language Initiative for Youth. Eighteen members of the Class of 2020 were elected into the St. Mark’s School of Texas Chapter of the Cum Laude Society. Warner Hartnett ’24 placed in the Top 30 among 146 students at the Chinese Bridge World Competition. Warner earned his spot after placing first in the DFW Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition

The ReMarker editor-in-chief Sam Ahmed ’20 was named Texas High School Journalist of the Year by the Texas Association of Journalism Educators. He is the eighth consecutive Marksman to receive this honor.

held online in May 2020. Ryan McCord ’20 was named a Presidential Scholar, one of only 20 seniors in the nation to be recognized for their artistic talent. Ryan is the second consecutive Marksman to be named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, following Kyle Smith ’19.

For the 13th time in 14 years, St. Mark’s 2019–2020 Photography has been named the “Top Program” by the Association of Texas Photography Instructors. Throughout the spring and summer quarantine, the Teaching Technology Across Generations Club produced a series of tutorial videos to train residents at local senior living facilities to use technology to stay in touch with their loved ones.

In February 2020, more than a dozen aspiring diplomats from St. Mark’s traveled to the 67th session of the

Harvard Model United Nations in Boston, Massachusetts. More than half of the

Marksmen delegates won major awards.

Sal Abbasi ’22 and Max Chuang ’22 tied for 16th place out of 200 teams at the National Speech and Debate Association’s 2020 National Championship, which was hosted virtually.

For the second year in a row, Nicholas Tsao ’20 placed in the top 20 students nationwide competing in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad and was selected as the first alternate for

Team USA.
