OFFICE OF STUDENT SUCCESS SERVICES Drop-In Center Students who have questions or concerns about their experience at SMSU are encouraged to stop by the OSS for help. We will make sure they are connected with the appropriate department or student service area for assistance.
Calling Efforts Courtesy calls are made to new students at the beginning of each semester to check in, as well as at the end of the semester to remind current students to register for classes for the upcoming semester. Student Acclimation Survey Given the 3rd week of classes, this survey helps determine how new students are adjusting to SMSU and if additional outreach and resources are needed.
Parent / Guardian Connections Parents and guardians are an essential component to whether or not their student is successful in college. We ensure that lines of communication are open and available should they have any concerns about their student’s overall college experience at SMSU.
Early Alert Warning System During the 3rd and 7th week of classes each semester, SMSU faculty are asked to report alerts for any student(s) who could use additional assistance in one or more of the following areas: Academic, Attendance, Behavioral, Personal, Financial, and Social. Following submission, outreach and intervention strategies are utilized by the OSS to help aid in the success of these at-risk students.
Student Health 101 SH 101 is a monthly, electronic publication which provides SMSU students and families a way to anonymously research the health and wellness issues that are most prevalent on today’s campuses. To read this month’s student issue visit: www.readsh101.com/smsu.html. The family version can be viewed at: www.readsh101.com/smsu-pp.html.
Student Perceptions / Exit Procedure The OSS meets with students who are not planning to return to SMSU after the conclusion of a semester to discuss the exit procedure and to gather valuable feedback about their experience. By collecting this data, SMSU is able to work towards meeting the wants and needs of all of our students to help aid in retention and completion efforts.
