AGRICULTURE. Southwest Minnesota State University’s School of Agriculture positions the University to fulfill its purpose to serve this region that is rooted in a strong ag economy. The School of Agriculture is multi-faceted and actively engaged in the community to meet the needs of the ag industry.


AG EDUCATION.

Agricultural Education takes a multi-disciplinary approach and is built on a strong liberal arts foundation. The Ag Education major will prepare students pursuing a Grade 7-12 agriculture teaching license, designed for those wishing to be Ag teachers and FFA advisors. Students in the Ag Education program at SMSU will gain valuable learning experiences through early and frequent classroom placement opportunities, as well as experiential-based education in the area of agriculture.

AG BUSINESS. At SMSU, we understand the importance agriculture plays in our community and throughout the world. SMSU’s Ag Business program will prepare students for the many challenges that an expanding population is presenting to the world of agriculture. With 99% of SMSU Ag graduates starting a career or continuing higher education within six months, we know that our students are ready for anything!

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Agriculture is specifically designed to serve the needs of transfer students who have finished their two-year degree (AAS or AS) in an agriculturerelated field. It builds on students’ accomplishments achieved during their two-year degree programs and combines the technical expertise in the Associate’s degree with the critical thinking and problem solving of a Baccalaureate program.

AG COMMUNICATION. In a world where agriculture is ever expanding, the opportunity to connect, market, expand and develop new technologies is present more now than ever. SMSU students will learn how to effectively build brand awareness and be a valuable member of any agricultural operation no matter the size or setting. Students will receive a strong base in marketing, management, communication and education...all with an emphasis in the latest technology and information.


AG SOLUTIONS. The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Solutions is an exciting new degree at SMSU. The program provides students with a powerful combination of agricultural resource management, economics, sustainabilitiy and environmental science. A required internship ensures that Ag Solutions students have hands-on learning experiences, while courses in leadership and communication helps students polish their “soft skills.�


AGRONOMY. The Bachelor of Science in Agronomy (BS Agronomy) degree features a science-based curriculum with a broad liberal arts component. The emphases are in crop management, soil resource management, agroecology, undergraduate research, professional development, sustainable agriculture communication, critical thinking and leadership skills.
