STUDENT PARISH

CATHOLIC CAMPUS MINISTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN

SO MUCH EASTER JOY!

“Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised.” (Luke 24:5)

Mary Magdalene doesn’t recognize her dear friend, Jesus, when she comes in the early morning darkness to care for his broken and lifeless body. He soon comforts her and opens her eyes to the reality of his victory over death. He simply calls her name, “Mary.” (John 20:16)

He calls each of us, too, when we stand in the darkness of our own confusion and sadness, or even in the middle of our everyday lives. Some mes we actually respond, and it changes everything.

He also called to his friends on the road to Emmaus, walking with them and trying to explain things. Finally, he eats with them and breaks the bread, the act of love and companionship that opens their eyes. They see it is their beloved teacher and friend who has conquered death, just as he promised.

In this joyful season of Resurrec on, we too, can open our eyes and see Jesus, our friend, right there beside us. He is the one who brings early morning newness to our dark and cloudy lives. He is the one who con nues to walk with us on the road – through whatever we encounter along the way.

He calls us in so many ways. This year, we had the largest OCIA group in a decade. They all responded to God’s call to come closer, and we celebrated the Easter Sacraments with them this weekend at the Easter Vigil Mass. Nine people were bap zed into the faith! We also welcomed and confirmed another 20 adults (including eight from another Chris an faith).

What a wonderful year this has been, as this group came together each week to renew the Body of Christ by contribu ng their own unique stories and experiences of God. We congratulate their dedica on and their desire to build a true rela onship with God. We pray that their OCIA year is just the beginning of a faith that brings them hope, joy and peace.

We welcome and congratulate:

Those who were bap zed:

Rachel Blood, Alexa Colo, Nina Colo, Isabella Huang, Karen Hotz, Weikai Kong, Nicklas Luckham, Jarek Schmanski, and Aaron Schwarz

Those who were bap zed in another faith, and confirmed as Catholics
