October 13, 2024 — Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
CATHOLIC CAMPUS MINISTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Time and me again I have heard from countless resident and student parishioners about how much they love St. Mary Student Parish. I believe that for many people, their love for St. Mary comes from how they have experienced God’s uncondi onal love here both through our worship and through our community. St. Igna us of Loyola in his Spiritual Exercises asks us to reflect on God’s love for us and how God labors on our behalf, showering us with countless blessings. He then invites us to make a response to God’s love. As we launch our combined capital campaign, we have the opportunity to respond to God’s love for each of us and for our parish community by making a meaningful investment in the future of our parish.
For the past century, St. Mary Student Parish has been a cornerstone of spiritual life for Catholics at the University of Michigan and the greater Ann Arbor area. As we prepare to celebrate our centennial, we have the opportunity to ensure that St. Mary will be able to not only survive but thrive for the next 100 years. With your generous support, our campaign will enable us to complete a series of long-awaited and much-an cipated projects in the coming years to enhance our facili es and invest in our ministries, while suppor ng Catholic educa on across our region. However, this campaign is not only about the dollars to be raised, but it is also about our response of love.
Your support for Catholic educa on reflects a love for teachers and students, par cularly those with special needs, who benefit from Catholic schools in our region. Your support of facili es repairs and upgrades as well as Church enhancements reflects a love for all those who have found a spiritual home at St. Mary. Your support for Campus Ministry reflects a love for all those at the University of Michigan who yearn for a rela onship with our God of mercy and love. Your support for resident ministry and community outreach reflects a love for our fellow residents in their respec ve faith journeys and a love for all those neighbors who we serve through our Faith Doing Jus ce ministry.
While I am incredibly grateful to announce that we are well on our way to achieving our goal of $4.25 million, we will only be able to achieve this goal with everyone’s support. We have already met the por on of our goal that would be allocated to Catholic educa on, so every addi onal dollar raised will directly benefit St. Mary Student Parish.
In the coming days, each parish household will receive an appeal packet by mail that includes more informa on on the campaign, along with a le er from me asking for your support. I would invite you to prayerfully consider making a sacrificial gi - one that is above and beyond your regular support of St. Mary - through a pledge to our combined campaign.
Thank you for your generosity to St. Mary Student Parish. May God bless you and your loved ones.
AMDG,
Fr. Kyle Shinseki, S.J.

The constant flood of influence that comes through the internet and social media in all of its various forms, along with social pressures from peers make it difficult for children to live virtuous and holy lives. In the digital age , it’s not a ma er of if your child will see something inappropriate online. It’s only a ma er of when. And regre ably, internet explicit images are teaching our children how and what to think about sex and marriage.
Next weekend, October 19 and 20, St Mary Student Parish will be celebra ng our second annual Safe Haven Sunday. This weekend of awareness will provide free resources to give you confidence for how to talk to your children about internet dangers, as well as their personal online and offline choices.
Please join us with your prayers and presence as we prepare for this unique event. To learn more, please contact Frank Bertram 734– 548-4440
