Reflection on the Women’s Student Retreat

Two weekends ago, 13 other undergraduate women and I spent a weekend discovering what it means to be a daughter of Christ. St. Mary had the opportunity to host a women’s retreat, with the goal of some peace within the chaos of the average student’s life. Going into retreat, I didn’t know what to expect. I had never a ended a women’s retreat, so I was slightly concerned about what the weekend would look like. Almost immediately, my worries had ceased. The weekend consisted of deepening rela onships with other women, encountering the Holy Spirit through the words other people, and receiving some peace that I was desperate for. As a senior that will be moving across the country in a few short months and star ng a job, I really appreciated ge ng to spend me focusing on rela onships with other women while also spending me with God.

While I went into retreat knowing all of the girls, stronger friendships blossomed. These women showed me what it looks like to live a life like Jesus every day. We also had the opportunity for confession, adora on, and inten onal prayer. At the end of the night, we had a chance to pray over every single woman that a ended. An event that was supposed to last 1.5 hours ended up being 3. It was so special to see that these girls care about the people around them, and they have a strong belief that prayer works. God had opened our hearts to be vulnerable with one another in so many ways. I found myself being truly authen c and talking about things I didn’t expect to. I was able to experience wisdom and clarity about things in Confession. I got to spend me with Jesus Christ during Adora on.

The weekend proved to be frui ul for many of us women. I le knowing with full assurance that I am a daughter of the King, and I am delighted in by Him. No ma er what, I am forgiven, and I am loved. There is nothing on this earth that can sa sfy me like He can. Retreats create such a special space that remind us of the truth of the Gospel. If you have supported the undergraduate retreats in any way, through financial aid or prayer, I want to thank you. These retreats are so special for so many students, and can shape our rela onship with God forever. You have played a major part in that, and your help does not go unno ced.
