BEING CHALDEAN
By a Student ParishionerBeing Chaldean is one of the most fulfilling parts of my en‐re life. Being part of a community lets you experience things that people experience all over the world.
Within the Chaldean community, there is a strong emphasis on family, unity, and solidarity. This close-knit bond fosters a profound sense of support and mutual respect among peers, crea ng a network of rela onships akin to an extend‐ed family.
Chaldean people are a minority Catholic group origina ng from Iraq. This shared religious iden ty not only strengthens the community's spiritual founda on but also serves as a unifying force that brings people together.
Through religious gatherings, prayers, and celebra ons, Chaldeans forge deep connec ons with one another, rein‐forcing their sense of belonging and shared purpose. You are able to have a close sense of family and brotherhood among your peers.
Food is another integral part of Chaldean culture, serving as a means of bringing people together and celebra ng shared heritage.
Moreover, being Chaldean means cherishing and preserving cultural tradi ons passed down through genera ons. From language and music to dance and storytelling, these tradi‐

ons serve as a link to the past and a source of iden ty and pride for Chaldeans worldwide.
By ac vely par cipa ng in cultural events and ac vi es, Chaldeans reaffirm their commitment to preserving their heritage and passing it on to future genera ons. Whether it's gathering for a tradi onal meal with family or sharing recipes and cooking ps with friends, food acts as a bridge that connects Chaldeans to their cultural roots and fosters a sense of community and togetherness. You are able to share religion and food and ways of life. You are able to join groups of people in your school to connect over such es.
Overall, being Chaldean encompasses a rich tapestry of ex‐periences, values, and tradi ons that contribute to a strong sense of iden ty and community. It's a source of pride, resil‐ience, and belonging that enriches the lives of individuals and strengthens the bonds that unite Chaldeans worldwide.
St. Mary hosts a monthly Chaldean Mass which is open to all resident and student parishioners. We honor the culture and tradi ons of our Arab American parishioners this month, which is celebrated across the U.S. as Arab American Heritage Month and as Chaldean American Month in
St. Mary Student Parish is a welcoming, inclusive, caring, and diverse Catholic community, uniting residents and students.
We are Christ-centered with the Eucharist as the source of holiness in our vibrant liturgical life.
Inspired by Ignatian spirituality, we live a faith that does justice, reaching out to the marginalized.
As an apostolic parish, we are committed to ongoing formation of Christian witness, discipleship, and leadership.
COMMON GROUND FILM SCREENING & REFLECTION
MONDAY APRIL 22 @ 7 :OO PM
Common Ground fuses a journalis c expose’ with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement.
The film reveals unjust prac ces within the current farm system. The film profiles a hopeful and upli ing movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alter‐na ve “regenera ve” models of agriculture that could bal‐ance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy.
THANK YOU!!!!
Thank you to those who dropped off food last weekend for the Salva on Army and Food Gatherers. With help from people in the Miller-Dexter neighborhood, we were able to generate two-thirds of a ton of food for those in need. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
