& fElucca riDE on thE nilE excursion to the imposing Aswan dam on Lake Nasser, the unfinished Obelisk that it would have been the largest obelisk in Ancient egypt (42 metres tall and weighing 1,200 tonnes) and motorboat ride to Agilkia Island with its beautiful Philae Temple. It was originally located upon the island of Philae, “the end” in Ancient egypt language, since it marked the southernmost boundary of the historic nation; the Temple was painstakingly taken apart and rebuilt on its current location when the Aswan dam was constructed in 1960s. In the afternoon felucca trip to Kitchener Island with visit to the Botanical Garden that is home to thousands of birds and many exotic plants imported from many parts of the world like Far east India and Africa. In Aswan you can visit the Rock Temples in Abu Simbel (not inlcuded), built in the 13th century BC during the reign of the 19th dynasty Pharaoh Ramesses II and his queen Nefertari. Their construction, including the carving of the massive rock-cut statues of the royals, took twenty years. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to explore Aswan on your own.

DoublE tEmplE of kom-ombo early in the morning the ship sails from Aswan to Kom-Ombo. Once in Kom-Ombo you will discover a unique Temple for its dedication to two different deities: the local crocodile-headed god Sobek and the first “god of the Kingdom”, the falcon-headed god Horus the elder. Continue your journey to edfu and, after lunch, you will have the opportunity to explore edfu on your own. enjoy the beautiful Nile landscapes from the sundeck as the ship continues to Luxor in the late evening.

In the morning visit Luxor and Karnak Temples. The Temple of Luxor is one of the bestpreserved ancient sites in the world; it was dedicated to the great god Amun-Ra, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu, together representing the Theban triad. Karnak is currently the second largest ancient religious site in the world; one of the most memorable spots at the Temple of Karnak is Hypostyle Hall, which today looks like a large courtyard filled with columns that touch the sky. Bratislava is located in the fertile Danube plain south of the small Carpathians in the immediate vicinity of the borders with Austria and Hungary. The slovakian capital could be aptly described as “small but nice”. The old town has been magnificently renovated with great attention to detail. During your sightseeing tour of Bratislava, you will first drive through the embassy district to the castle (Hrad), which towers high above the city and is considered the city’s landmark. There you will make a photo stop and enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city. Here you will also get more detailed information about the eventful history of the castle, which was the residence of numerous Hungarian kings for a long time before maria Theresa settled there and the castle experienced its heyday. Afterwards, you will continue to the old Town and begin the walking tour. Walking together through the old Town of Bratislava, you will see the redoubt, the National Theatre, the City Hall and some Baroque palaces and the city gates that testify to the k.u.k. monarchy. Among other things, you will also meet the most famous man of Bratislava, gullimann Cumil.

Budapest is certainly one of the most beautiful cities in europe and bears the nickname “Queen of the Danube” not without reason. The Danube divides the Hungarian metropolis into the districts of Buda and Pest. You will first drive through the city centre and enjoy the flair of the city. enjoy a beautiful view of the Buda Castle, Fishermen’s Bastion and matthias Church, which still remind of the glory of past times. Also, a small visit to the famous Budapest market hall may not be missing, of course.

Today the tradition-rich Danube metropolis vienna is on the program. From the pier you will pass the “New vienna” with the Uno-City and the Danube Island. see imposing magnificent buildings such as the state opera, the Burgtheater, the Hofburg, the Parliament, the City Hall and the votivkirche during the trip along the famous ringstrasse. During a guided tour afterwards, you will experience this charming city and its world-famous “viennese schmäh” at first hand. After a short free time, you will pass the Praterstern and return to your ship.

The baroque Benedictine Abbey of melk towers impressively above the town at the entrance to the Danube in the Wachau region. melk has been a spiritual and cultural centre of the country for more than 1,000 years. The monastery has become literarily known, among other things, through Umberto eco’s novel “The Name of the rose”. The imposing baroque building is a visible expression of the importance of the monastery in the baroque period. A guided tour through the monastery will impressively convey the former importance of the monastery. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to explore the grounds yourself before the bus picks you up again and takes you back to the ship.

The city of linz, first mentioned in a document in 799, owes an early economic boom as an important trading center to its location on the Danube. This shaped the appearance and culture of the city. When strolling through the alleys of the spacious old town, it is worth taking a look at the magnificent inner courtyards. Proud town houses tell of times gone by. In contrast, there is the spacious, baroque main square with the imposing Holy Trinity Column. In 2009, the city was even named european Capital of Culture.
