Mountains to Main Street
CASHIERS | SAPPHIRE VALLEY | GLENVILLE
Cashiers is an unincorporated village on the southern end of Jackson County. It is home to some of the highest vistas in the county, including those in the neighboring communities of Sapphire Valley and Glenville. Sitting at 3,484 elevation, Cashiers/Sapphire Valley and Glenville are known for their eclectic shops and boutiques, world-renowned private golf courses, majestic views (Whiteside Mountain, Whitewater Falls, Fairfield Lake, Lake Glenville), events, restaurants and lodging.
CHEROKEE
The Qualla Boundary is home to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The 18thcentury Cherokee lifestyle is preserved via live demonstrations in the Oconaluftee Indian Village. The outdoor drama
“Unto These Hills” tells the tribal story throughout the summer season. The nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park features campgrounds and more than 500 miles of hiking trails. Cherokee is home to the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, a world-class venue for gaming, lodging, dining, concerts and much more.
CULLOWHEE | FOREST HILLS
Cullowhee is the proud home of Western Carolina University and the surrounding businesses and residences designed to service campus needs. Western Carolina University has been named the premiere outdoor adventure college in the region for several years and enrollment at WCU has steadily grown to over 11,000 students. The Village of Forest Hills is a welcoming, safe, and thriving residential community adjacent to the college.
DILLSBORO
A village of shops, crafters, family restaurants and diverse events, Dillsboro is proud to host annual festivals including Colorfest, the Christmas Lights and Luminaries, and an Easter Hat parade, just to name a few. The popular Great Smoky Mountains Railroad makes a stop in Dillsboro throughout the busy spring, summer and fall months.
SYLVA | WEBSTER
Sylva is the county seat of Jackson and has been named one of the greatest places to retire in the U.S. Residents and visitors enjoy annual festivals and events. Sylva boasts a wide array of restaurants and now has three breweries, three bookstores and an eclectic shopping experience featuring unique clothing, arts, crafts, jewelry, antiques, cocktail lounges and consignment stores. The walk up the stairs to the historic and scenic courthouse provides a great view of town. The neighboring town of Webster is a quiet residential community situated on top of a hill overlooking the Tuckaseigee River. It is situated just south of Sylva before entering Cullowhee.

Jackson County will proudly present its July 4 Fireworks Festivities for the 11th year in a row on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
This year’s special event will feature an exciting concert by one of the region’s finest bands, “Gotcha Groove,” who will perform classic rock/pop/Motown/beach music, followed by an impressive fireworks show when the sun goes down.
The concert will be at the Bridge Park Pavilion in downtown Sylva, where there will be food trucks, children’s activities and more family-friendly activities.
Local residents and visitors can see the fireworks from just about any viewing location in the downtown Sylva area including Main Street, Mill Street and the Jackson County Historic Courthouse steps.

Concerts on the Creek
Each summer, the Town of Sylva, Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department and Jackson County Chamber of Commerce team up to produce the Concerts on the Creek series at the Bridge Park gazebo in downtown Sylva.
These 17 events occur every Friday from 7-9 p.m., Memorial Day through Labor Day. Concerts on the Creek are free and open to the public with donations encouraged. Bring a chair or blanket. There will be food and drink vendors on site as well.

Furry Friends Welcome Here
If you are like most people, when it comes time to take a trip or consider a community for relocations, one of the first things to consider is “can we take our pets?”
Jackson County is a pet lover’s paradise. It has an abundance of hiking trails, rivers, creeks and lakes for pets to romp around in.
At Mark Watson Park, located between Dillsboro and Sylva, there is actually a dog park where four-legged friends can stretch their legs in a safe & fenced environment.
Several businesses in the chamber directory o er doggie day care, pet grooming, pet sitting, and more. Jackson County’s humane societies and shelters are among the best, with topnotch facilities to find your next furry friend.
Many restaurants are pet friendly, allowing dogs on a leash to accompany owners while they enjoy a cool beverage or warm meal. Often, they may make a friend or two as well.

Angling for Adventure
TJackson County is home to the Western North Carolina Fly Fishing Trail — the nation’s first.
he trail maps out 15 prime spots to catch brown, rainbow and brook trout. From wide-open, crystal clear rivers to secluded Great Smoky Mountain streams, the WNC Fly Fishing Trail has you covered. In 2016, the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce led the e ort for our home to become the o cial Trout Capital of N.C. Legislators on both the N.C. House and Senate floors recognized Jackson County as the “Premier Trout Fishing Destination” in the state. Follow the N.C. Trout Capital at www.nctroutcapital.com
Jackson County contains 4,600 miles of trout streams and receives an annual stocking of 92,800 trout, which is the most of any county in the state. It also features the state’s longest contiguous stretch of N.C. Mountain Heritage Trout Waters. Jackson County is the home of the state record for the largest rainbow trout ever caught.
Jackson County has 31 public access points for fishing; supports fishing classes for children; is home to the nation’s largest river cleanup day; and plays host to its own chapter of Trout Unlimited.
There are now six retail fly shops and more than 25 guides in Jackson County. In 2022, the chamber began a sticker campaign to discourage littering called, “Don’t Trash Where We Splash.”
Friends Night Out
The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce will hold two “Friends Night Out” events in the spring of 2026. The first is in Sylva, from 12-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, and in Dillsboro, April 30, from 2-8 p.m. at participating Jackson County chamber member businesses.
The event is intended to generate economic impact in the area and encourage sales on an evening during a traditionally slower time of year.
“Friends” in Sylva simply shop at any participating chamber member retailer or food and beverage provider between the hours of 12 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, and purchase $25 or more at that business or at multiple businesses in total. Then, “friends” bring their receipt(s) by the chamber at 773 West Main Street in Sylva and register. The more you spend, the more chances you have to win. For each $25 worth of receipts you turn in to the chamber, you get one entry. There is no other cost to participate in the events.
In Dillsboro, when “Friends” are ready to register, they will come to Enloe House Wine Bar between 2-8 p.m.
