This means feel free to give this to the local Boy and Girl Scout groups, Civil Air Patrol clubs, ROTC at your local high school, local Ducks Unlimited chapters, local gun shops, anywhere and anyone that would be interested in youth programs. SCTP NEWS This is the first edition of the Florida Youth Shooting Newsletter. My objective is to keep our SCTP shooters informed on practices, tournaments, clinics, and other shooting events they may find of interest. The newsletter will be published on the ISSUU website where you are reading it now. Simply copy and paste the address and send it out to your team and coaches. Wendell will send the SCTP coaches and other interested parties an updated newsletter every month. Coaches are then free to disseminate the link to their team and anyone they believe might be interested. Feel free to contact me directly or go through Wendell Mixon and Joey Berardinelli. In this issue I have posted pictures of the Markham Park Youth program shooters and pictures of some of the Hot Shots at South Florida Shooting Club. If you want to have your shooters’ pictures highlighted in the newsletter feel free to send them to me. If you have instances of special recognition, 25/50/75/100 straights in skeet or trap, reaching Master Class in Sporting, wins at local tournaments, or whatever is a special achievement for one of you shooters, send me a picture and a back story for publication. This publication isn’t meant for just the SCTP community. I would like
I challenge coaches to speak to their local junior high and high schools about getting teams started. States like Tennessee, Arkansas, Minnesota, and Illinois have active high school programs. Why doesn’t Florida? The calendar on pages 34-35 is for Markham Gun Club. In the future I will post SCTP events on it. I look forward to your response. You will see a few advertisements in the newsletter. They are all people who support the Youth program at Markham. If others want to advertise, I will pass them through Wendell and Joey for approval and the proceeds will go to the Florida SCTP program. There are no benchwarmers in the SCTP! Why join the SCTP? The SCTP is a National Youth Clay Target Shooting Program focused on “TEAM”! There is no room for the win at all cost attitude. Much like football, baseball, basketball and track, we help build school/club teams and conferences across the county and have been doing this since 2001 when it started under the National Shooting Foundation! The SSSF or Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation now implements this program, the largest youth shooting program in the world! The SCTP and ACUI (Association of College Unions International) announced a Partnership in the 2022-2023 shooting season that will allow the two organizations to enhance their respective programs and expand their scholarship offerings. In Florida our SCTP youth teams started at Sarasota Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays followed by Quail Creek and has grown to 27 teams in Florida consisting of Collegiate Teams, Club Teams and a High School Academy Team. We are looking to
expand into areas where we currently have clubs and no teams. SCTP and SASP National Championship is currently held at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio and hosted approximately 3500 athletes for the 2023 championship. Shooting events consist of both Interna-
tional Skeet and Bunker Trap, Make-ABreak Team event, 100 targets 5-stand, 200 targets Sporting Clays, 200 targets Doubles Trap, 200 targets Handicap Trap, 200 targets Single Trap, 200 targets American Skeet and 100 targets Skeet Doubles. SASP Nationals also held concurrently at the Cardinal Center consisted of Air Pistol, Air Rifle, Air Rifle Sporter, 25M Sport Pistol and Sport Pistol where Florida Teams also competed since 2019. Florida teams have been very completive at the SCTP and SASP National Champi4 onship Level in team and individual competition.
In 2017 at the SCTP National Championship in Marengo, Ohio the Young Guns of Quail Creek Florida took several National Titles including the Team High overall Average for Sporting Clays, Trap and Skeet Individual HOA. These combined scores from Nicholas Blinker, Clayton Cutshall, Ryan Harper, Jay Bible and Allison Franza by breaking an impressive 2061 out of 2200 possible clays. Nicholas Blenker took individual HOA in Sporting Clays breaking 575 out of 600 clay targets. Since 2018 the CZ-USA Top Gun Challenge, where competitors were scored in trap, skeet, a rifle discipline of choice and a centerfire pistol, with scores from each event being compiled to calculate the winners. Florida Competitors have competed well in this competition. Top Gun Challenge Champion for 2019 and 2020 was Jack Krasulak from Young Guns of Quail Creek Florida, 2021 Top Gun Challenge Champion was Trace Scuderi from Young Guns of Quail Creek Florida and the Top Gun Challenge Champion for 2023 was Trace Scuderi from South Florida Hot Shots. Each year at the National Championship on Wednesday night 400-600 competitors line up on the trap field shoulder to shoulder in the eliminator style competition and compete in the Last Competitor Standing – often called “Annie Oakley”. For two years in a row, in 2018 and 2019 it was won by Reanna Frauens from Young Guns of Quail Creek Florida. In 2022 the SCTP National Championship started a side event with the Make-A-Break Championship. Kiersten Sales from Young Guns of Quail Creek Florida taking both the HOA and the Ladies Championship in this
event. As SCTP Coaches and Clubs we are very proud of all of our Florida Youth SCTP competitors. Florida athletes display true team sportsmanship, practice as a team, compete as a team, interact with and help their competitors both on and off the field. Our Florida SCTP Teams are very grateful for the continued support from all our Florida Shooting Clubs, Florida Sporting Clays Association, Florida Skeet Association, Florida Trap Association, Adult Coaches and Volunteers that make this a reality. Additionally, each team has benefitted from Community and Business involvement that have donated money, time, guns and ammunition just to name a few to make then successful.

Florida SCTP teams 2023-2024 season started September 1st and runs through August 31st. In October the ACIU and SCTP College shooting got underway in October and the 2024 SCTP/ACIU College Clay Target Championship is set for March 1823, 2024 at the National Sporting Clays Association in San Antonio, Texas. On Saturday December 2, 2023 Blackjack Smokin Aces will host their Annual “Blackjack Reindeer Classic” at Blackjack Sporting Clays in Sumterville, Florida. This is the first of many team competitions for teams and clubs that are not college teams alone to be held in the 2023-2024 season. January 5, 2024 Black Jack Smokin Aces will have their 3rd Annual Fundraiser and you can contact Justin Schneider at asischneider@aim.com if you would like to participate or can help support their fundraising efforts. In January the Saltwater Top Shots Open
will be held in St. Augustine for more SCTP team competition, as we get more information, we will publish it as also. We encourage all of our Youth SCTP Teams to send your schedules, fundraising information, SCTP team event, Team practice schedule in to Wendell Mixon and Joe Loitz to update our SCTP calendar and for Coach Joe Loitz to published in this youth shooting digest. If you are a club, school of college and want to start SCTP we are here to help. If any teams ever want to come to Tampa Bay Sporting Clays and shoot the international bunker with the Tampa Bay Clays we would welcome that. We hold practices on Sundays from 11AM to 2PM. We will be glad to assist in coaching the shooters on how to shoot the international bunker as well. All we ask is that you please let us know in advance that you are coming as we wouldn’t want you to show up and nobody be there.
