Collaborations

GROWTH OF THE MIND

Introducing the Lift, a collection developed in conjunction with The North Face / Smith team riders Jess Kimura and Erik Leon to promote their mission of inclussion and accesability in snowsports.

The Lift is built around people, personal growth and grassroots community connections. Jess and Erik have both been strong advocates for wider participation in snowboarding and have used their respective events as vehicles for the change they desire to see. Jess’ It’s Tits! park event brings together and showcases women riders while Erik’s CORENation rail jam series builds community while raising money for local non-profits.

Collaborations

A quest to find big snow in Japan is a quest for the ultimate powder experience. A chance to travel to a remote destination, explore the culture and smash big pow in the epic mountains that surround Niseko.

Our collaboration celebrates the Land of the Rising Sun and both brands’ ethos of experience by combining Oyuki’s premium materials with Smith’s best-in-class technology.

The Squad MAG and the all-new Method helmet recieve a full graphic interpretation of the mythical Japanese Yōkai. Translated into ‘strange apparition’, the Yōkai are a class of supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore. Illustrated by artist Mike Shankster.

Flow State

The Flow State capsule collection celebrates those moments we all seek on our favorite form of frozen waves when everything is tuned out, the concept of time disapears completely and the only thing that matters are the turns ahead of you.

FUELED BY EXPERIENCE

HADLEY HAMMER- 4D MAG S

“For me, this goggle is centered around the idea of home. Starting with the mountains-inspired by three ranges I’ve been lucky enough to call my physical home- the Tetons in Jackson, Wyoming, the Mt Blanc Massif in Chamonix, France and the Kalkkögel in Innsbruck, Austria. But it’s not just the physical nature, but also a connection to the people who have made those ranges home. The partners you ski tour with or ride the chairlifts with. The ones who make your laughter echo off the rock walls of a couloir. The ones that are there for your tomahawks or your stomps. The rich memories that are forged in the outdoors. And it all began with my family-a band of five Hammers, my parents teaching us how to make a beautiful “ home” full of joy. In memory of my dad, Mike Hammer who drew us cartoon Hammers playing outside each year as our Christmas cards.”

BOBBY BROWN - I/O MAG

“The mountains are everything in our world, they are where we live, where we play and they provide the energy for all the things we love. There’s a subtlety to making the goggle stand out but not overpowering them with boldness. We went back and forth on the colors but I think we landed on a really nice blend that reflects a palette you would see in nature. I’m looking forward to seeing this goggle where it belongs, in the mountains.”

@BOBBYBROWN

@HADHAMMER

SAGE CATTABRIGA-ALOSA -4D MAG

“The textures of nature have always been inspiring to me. I love the way both macro, and micro viewpoints show off different patterns, shapes, and lines. Like how rivers create vein like patterns when viewed from high above, or how flower petals repeat into fractals as they stack up on a sunflower. For this year’s art, I found specific inspiration in a rock cliff that we regularly ski tour past on the way to some of my favorite lines. On one particular forecasted “sunny” day, morning fog blanketed the mountains, and a fresh coat of white had dusted the rock cliff with feathers of rime ice. I was amazed by the contrast, and patterns, that it had created, snapped a bunch of photos. After waiting around for quite a while, the fog parted, we summited our lines, and were gifted with an actual sunny day. This natural display of “art” may have been over looked, had the fog not deterred us from our main goal, and given us reason to slow down and find the beauty in the moment.”

ELENA HIGHT - SQUAD MAG

“There is nothing quite like the feeling of looking out over a vast mountain scape. Layers of peaks reaching out into the horizon, making you feel small and insignificant and connect at the same time. This simple mountain scape capped off by a setting moon and rising sun bring my imagination straight to to my happy place, perched deep in the mountains looking out over the horizon.”

Experience ChromaPop™

AS NATURE INTENDED.

ChromaPop™ lens technology amplifies natural color and enhances definition.

How ChromaPop™ Works

WITHOUT CHROMAPOP™ WITH CHROMAPOP™

Charge harder, faster, and longer with the amplified detail and enhanced natural color of ChromaPop™. Through our proprietary ChromaPop™ lens technology, we help you see detail and color beyond normal capabilities. ChromaPop™ filters two specific wavelengths of light that cause color confusion. By doing this the lens delivers greater definition, more natural color, and unmatched clarity to allow you to see more detail.

NORMALLY WITH CHROMAPOP™

The eye’s retina has trouble perceiving the difference between blue and green, and red and green light.

ChromaPop™ filters these specific crossovers, allowing greater definition, natural color, and clarity.

Which ChromaPop™ lens is right for you?

DO MORE WITH LESS.

ChromaPop™ Snow lenses do more work. With just one ChromaPop™ lens you experience enhanced definition and clarity across a greater range of conditions than with traditional lenses.

CHROMAPOP™ SUN

Perfect for cloudless, blazing light conditions, these lenses ease the harsh glare of high elevation sun while helping your eyes see more information in the terrain ahead of you.

CHROMAPOP™ EVERYDAY

Suited for a range of conditions, enhances every undulation of snow so you get more out of every moment.

CHROMAPOP™ STORM

Tuned to bring the most out of an environment when the storm moves in and the lights go out. Optimize contrast even on the worst days, so you can stay out longer.

VLT - VISUAL LIGHT TRANSMISSION

The VLT rating on Smith lenses shows how much light passes through them. The higher the VLT rating, the more light comes through that lens. Lower VLT rated lenses are good for bright, sunny days, whereas higher rated lenses are best in cloudy or low light situations.

VLT: 0%

No light passes through

PHOTOCHROMIC

VLT: 100% All light passes through

These lenses feature UV sensitive, self-tint-adjusting photochromic technology to bring you lenses that adapt to changing light conditions, so you always have the perfect tint for the amount of light.

Adapt with MAG

CHANGE IS EASY.

MAG technology allows you to quickly adapt for any condition.

Smith MAG

Smith MAG proprietary technology enables you to quickly adapt to varying light conditions with the confidence of lens security. The next generation of Smith interchangeability has arrived.

DUAL LOCKING MECHANISMS

Once in position, the lens carrier provides a patent-pending dual locking mechanical engagement to secure the lens. With the Smith MAG’s two locking mechanisms, the lens stays locked tight for whatever the hill throws at you. A simple push of one lever at either side of the lens releases the lens for easy swapping as the light and conditions change.

MAGNETIC CONTACT POINTS

Strong and weatherproof N52 magnets automatically guide the lens into the anchored position. The magnetic function speeds up lens changes to get you back out riding faster.

CONSIDERED DESIGN

Plastic grips are carefully considered and designed at the corners of the lens for easy interchangeability while protecting the surface of the lens.

Smith innovation featuring Koroyd

Developed as an energy absorber in the aerospace industry, cylindrical structures were found to be one of nature’s strongest forms; a form that could offer the greatest impact absorbtion for a given length. Koroyd® utilizes cylinders to create a structure that behaves differently than traditional protection materials. Traditional materials act like a spring which stores energy and then releases it, Koroyd® is a true energy absorber which converts the kinetic energy by crumpling. This translates into better absorption of impact energy.

BARRIER

FOR

YOUR BRAIN

Designed for dynamic, real life accidents, and engineered for safety so you can venture further with confidence. Koroyd® crumples instantly and continuously as your head rolls through multiple impact zones, absorbing maximum force in a controlled manner, minimizing energy transferred to your head.

HIGH PERFORMANCE

Koroyd® provides confidence-inspiring protection without compromise on everyday performance needs.

ULTRALIGHT

Koroyd® is 95% air. This enables lighter, smaller, faster protection, causing less fatigue for life on the move.

BREATHABILITY

The protective core covers strategic zones whilst the open cells allow hot air to escape and fresh air to go with your flow.

Ultimate Integration

At Smith, we design helmets and goggles to work together as a fully integrated system. For the helmet line, the most important factor in integration is the AirEvac™ ventilation system. This is the bridge that allows goggles and helmets to function as one system, venting warm, moist air away from the goggles, through the helmet climate control system and ultimately away from the head.

INTEGRATION BEGINS WITH A PRECISE FIT

Ultimate integration starts with the precise fit of the Smith goggle and helmet. Our helmets are designed to match the curvature of the goggle frame, eliminating “gaper gap” and allowing precise alignment between the helmet AirEvac™ and the goggle venting systems.

AIREVAC: MAXIMUM AIRFLOW IS CRUCIAL

Goggles fog when standard helmets trap warm, moist air in the goggle chamber. Smith’s AirEvac™ ventilation systems generate maximum airflow that pulls warm, fog-causing air out of the goggle. The warm air is allowed to exhaust out of the top of the goggle and begin its path through the helmet’s AirEvac™ system.

REAR EXHAUST VENTILATION

The warm air that originally built up in the goggle has been forced out via the AirEvac™ ventilation system, has traveled through the AirEvac™ EPS vent channels, and is now being exhausted at the furthest distance possible from the goggle. Ultimate integration between goggle and helmet from start to finish.

MIPS® technology

MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM

In a helmet with MIPS® Brain Protection System (BPS) the shell and the liner are separated by a Low Friction Layer. When a helmet with MIPS® Brain Protection System is subjected to an angled impact, the low friction layer allows the helmet to slide relative to the head. The MIPS® BPS is designed to add protection in helmets against the rotational motion. The rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy (angular velocity) and rotational forces (from angular acceleration) that both affects the brain and increases the risk for minor and severe brain injuries. MIPS® BPS has been scientifically proven to reduce rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and redirecting rotational energies and forces transferred to the brain.

THE GREAT MISCONCEPTION

Accident statistics show that many injuries occur due to angled impact to the head. However, in standard helmet tests the helmet is dropped vertically onto a flat surface. The results are helpful for measuring precise vertical impacts, but inferior for measuring the more realistic scenario of an angled impact. MIPS® has been developed for reality and increases protection against angled impacts.

MIPS® IN ACTION STRAIN LEVELS

HOW HELMETS ARE TESTED TODAY

HOW YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO FALL

When you fall to the ground at an angle rotational forces are generated. A helmet integrating MIPS® technology creates a sliding layer between the outer shell and the head. This allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground, so the rotational force is decreased, reducing the potential to damage your brain. Simulated deformation of the brain from angled impact when the user is wearing a helmet with and without MIPS®

Ventilation and Construction

HYBRID SHELL CONSTRUCTION: Lightweight and low profile

Smith’s hybrid shell construction combines separate lightweight and durable shells to create an entirely new helmet category. By fusing our tough bombshell ABS construction with flyweight in-mold technology, our hybrid shell construction optimizes the favorable traits of each material in this revolutionary process. The result is a modern design that provides a lightweight, low profile, perfectly fitting helmet. hybrid shell construction also creates a clean, smooth top surface by enabling the low profile Regulator to function with reduced mass and volume.

IN-MOLD SHELL CONSTRUCTION: Lightweight and low profile

The performance standard for many years, in-mold construction creates a PC shell helmet with an EPS liner to maximize weight reduction. Lightweight, comfortable and offering value for every ounce, in-mold construction is the flyweight winner.

BOMBSHELL CONSTRUCTION: Tough for all-season use

Bombshell construction uses an injection molded ABS shell to withstand high-impacts and offer unparalleled durability, dent, and ding resistance. If you expect your helmet to be as tough as your truck, bombshell delivers.

BOMBSHELL MATERIAL IN-MOLD MATERIAL

DUAL REGULATOR ADJUSTABLE VENTILATION

Temperature control is the most important feature when considering how to enjoy the entire day on the hill. Our Dual Regulator ventilation system independently controls the front and rear sections of the helmet’s venting, allowing you to moderate your body temperature even in extremely cold conditions. By exhausting heat through the rear vents while maintaining a sealed front end, your body can effectively cool down if needed and avoid the dreaded “ice cream headache.”

SINGLE REGULATOR ADJUSTABLE VENTILATION

Adjustable, easy to use and extremely effective climate control, our low profile Regulator ventilation system allows you to modify the amount of airflow and heat exhaust even with a gloved hand.

AIRFLOW VENTILATION

Airflow ventilation utilizes strategically placed vents for easy climate control in all conditions. Vent placement maximizes airflow and heat exhaustion in warm temperatures while minimizing undesired cold air drafts. Fabric flaps in the lining design on certain models allow you to open and close the airflow vents for adjustable comfort.

Mountain Electronics

Music adds to the thrill of your mountain experience and sometimes, making the first powder day of the year means taking a work call on the lift. Either way, rely on Smith’s audio program powered by Aleck®. From basic direct-line and bass-thumping audio to advanced iPhone® and Android® compatible features, we’ve got you covered.

DROP-IN AUDIO PROGRAM

By integrating universally compatible ear pads with super-thin, bass-thumping drivers, our Drop-In audio program for all adult helmets makes fumbling through lengthy instruction manuals a thing of the past. You are no longer bound to basic black helmets or forced to worry about which parts fit with which helmet.

Both the Aleck 006® Wireless and Wired headphones are equipped with full range, 40mm drivers set solidly in the squircle shaped casing. This housing, coupled with a fully customizable audio EQ (via the Aleck GO!® app) , allows for epic in-helmet acoustics, creating the best Hi-Fi experience in the business. What’s more, the Aleck GO!® app for iOS® and Android® means your friends and family are just a tap away with our one-touch, walkie-talkie system. Lost a group member on the mountain? No problem. GPS gives you the peace of mind of knowing exactly where your friends and family are. All tested to work perfectly at -20ºC/-4F, with IPX-4 sweat & water resistance.

ALECK 006® | WIRELESS

The Aleck 006® Wireless is the universal helmet audio + walkie-talkie, preferred by Smith. Connect them to your Bluetooth® enabled device, drop them into your audio compatible helmet and enjoy 10 hours of continuous playtime. Loaded with full audio & volume controls, phone call capability, the power of voice command (Siri® & Google Assistant®) and a one-touch, push-to-talk walkie-talkie. Do it all while keeping your mittens where they belong ... waving in the air, like you just don’t care. Imagine it: warm hands, fresh powder, total audio and communication control, and no wires inside your jacket. No more fear of dropping your phone on a lift.

ALECK 006® | WIRED

The Aleck 006® Wired is also loaded with a glove-friendly, on-device button for audio control. Siri® & Google Assistant® provide for volume control and a built-in microphone means you can answer your next call without removing your helmet or your gloves. The Aleck 006® Wired effortlessly provides unsurpassed, helmet-filling music from your audio device. It’s everything you need to have a great time on the hill.

Exoskeleton protection with complete Koroyd® construction

When you spend more days on the mountain than off, the Smith Nexus is your helmet for bomber protection that holds up season after season. In addition to a hybrid shell that balances a lightweight, low-profile design with a durable hardshell exterior, the Nexus steps up impact coverage with Koroyd® throughout the helmet, a fully-vented material that absorbs more energy in a crash than traditional foam construction alone. Add MIPS® for increased safety during angled impacts, and you have our most advanced helmet design. Since all this protection is useless if you don’t want to wear it, we dialed up the comfort level with a microadjustable BOA® 360 Fit System that adapts to your whole head. A sweat-wicking, odor-fighting liner keeps you warm, while a front and rear adjustable 24-vent design lets you regulate airflow as needed.

Fit Descriptions for Goggles and Helmets

In an effort to better address the differences in Smith fit descriptions and to help understanding of face and head shapes we are updating our fit language to:

Low Bridge Fit - replacing Asia fit for goggles.

Round Contour Fit - replacing Asia fit for helmets.

Low Bridge Fit

Low Bridge fit goggles sit more comfortably and securely on faces with a smaller or lower nose bridge and/or a wide or high cheekbone shape. Choosing the right fit will improve the comfort and performance of your goggles.

To determine the best fit for your face, look at where the bridge of your nose sits relative to your pupils. The bridge is the boney, saddle-shaped area at the top of your nose. If it’s level with or below your pupils, consider our Low Bridge fit options for the best possible feel and fit experience.

Low Bridge

Round Contour Fit

Round Contour fit helmets are sized for a fit and feel that better matches rounder head shapes. Choosing the right helmet fit will improve the comfort and performance of your helmet.

To determine which Smith helmet best suits your head shape, use our helmet fit chart to match your head circumference to the best size and fit within our helmet size options.
