Sandya Dandamudi is the second-generation owner of GI Stone, a Chicago-based commercial stone provider specializing in sourcing, fabricating and installing custom stone for clients nationwide. Her experience with stone started at a young age when she used to accompany her mother, Rani, on interior design projects. In 1995, her mother founded GI Stone, and Dandamudi joined the company – eventually taking the helm when her mother retired. No matter the challenges of running a business, her motto remains constant: “Stone is the boss.”

Dandamudi is also active in nonprofit organizations and industry associations. She works with the ReVive Center for Housing and Healing and the Saint Paul Church of God in Christ Community Development Ministries (SPCDM). As a member of the River North Residence Association Land Use & Development Center, she encourages local developers to support the SPCDM pre-apprenticeship training program. Her goals are to create a steady pipeline of new stoneworkers, to provide opportunities for those from underprivileged backgrounds, and to help improve minority representation within the stone trade.

what is a concept ? what to expect in this phase of design ? why is this important?

concept

Definition : (a) It is an abstract idea; a general notion. (b) It is something conceived in the mind : thought, notion. (c) an idea or theory containing various conceptual elements, typically one considered to be subjective and not based on empirical evidence.

During this phase of design we gage the emotional reactions to the visuals presented. We discuss in detail about the attributes of these concepts. We attempt to understand the client’s tastes, their loves, hates, likes and dislikes. This deeper understanding guides us through our rest of our design journey.

The concept phase is a very important phase of design, this sets the tone and construct for the entire project. Every decision made from here on complies with this design construct.
