Dr. Khawaja

Obstetrician/Gynecologist THE MODERN WOMAN There’s a reason purple is the dominant tone in Dr. Shazah Khawaja’s office. The doctor, an obstetrician-gynecologist and founder of The Modern Woman, says, “Purple can be associated with power, ambition, wisdom, dignity, peace, pride, imagination and spirituality; also with the crown chakra, which is linked to the crown of the head, nervous system and brain and represents pure thought. Patients usually say, ‘It’s calming and comfortable to be here.’” Dr. Khawaja has practiced 14 years, eight in Sonoma County. In August 2020, mid-Covid, she formed her own practice to continue taking care of her patients and where women of all ages could speak freely, giving them time to solve whatever was afflicting them. The Modern Woman encourages motivational medicine, where patients are engaged and involved in bettering their health. Dr. Khawaja offers a safe environment where issues like anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunction, stress incontinence, painful intercourse and pelvic and vaginal health can be discussed. She combines this openness with cutting-edge technology. Bringing positive self-image and self-esteem to the forefront with health and wellness is one of her goals. And, she says with a smile, “This is only the beginning, ladies. There is much more to come.”

Jill Ziedrich Gaylor Healdsburg Lumber Company: The Next Generation Having grown up in the Healdsburg Lumber Company family, it was an easy choice for Jill Ziedrich Gaylor to make a career out of it. She began working for the 150 year old family-owned company as a teen, and worked her way from sales to management, before being promoted to President. Jill works alongside both her father

and husband, but sees the entire company as part of the family. In addition to running a business with unparalleled customer service in the building supplies industry, Jill is devoted to ensuring that her employees are as content with and passionate about their jobs as she. Jill is the third generation President of Healdsburg Lumber, after her father and grandfather, and she is passionate about perpetuating the culture and work ethic established by her predecessors. However, there is always room for improvement; as the first woman to head the company, she has focused on supporting and promoting her female counterparts and ensuring their success along with her own.

Martha Bodell

North Coast Tile & Stone The most important thing to Martha Bodell at North Coast Tile & Stone is to make every customer feel comfortable, heard, and well taken care of. “I want everyone to feel at home when they walk in, no matter their experience level.” Martha says. That’s what separates them from Big-Box stores, the one-on-one attention and care. The company has been family owned and operated for over 30 years. Martha and her team have the expertise, knowledge, and trust to tackle any project. In 2006 when the economy took a downturn, Martha had an idea to open a design showroom. “I took a leap of faith hoping to keep our business going and it was a success!” Working in a male-dominated field can be a bit intimidating, but Martha rose to the occasion and continues to take pride in making contracting projects manageable and accessible to everyone, especially women.
