Welcome to Open Gardens 2026 Hello. When I think of gardens, I always think of my mum. She was a very keen gardener. It was her real passion, and an escape from her health problems. In fact, she always said that when she was no longer able to get out gardening, then life wouldn’t be worth living.

She was initially supported by the Hospice at Home team. They were so kind and caring, but mum didn’t want to die at home - she thought it would be too distressing for my dad. So, the Hospice team did all they could to honour mum’s wish, and she spent her final two weeks at St Michael’s.

About a year before mum died, we visited an Open Gardens event at St Michael’s. She loved looking at all the plants.

She was so happy one day because they had managed to get her showered and her hair washed. They even wheeled her bed outside so she could watch and listen to the birds.

She even bought a hand-made wooden name plaque for her new bungalow.

Being outside in the garden brought her so much pleasure.

Mum made the decision to stop having dialysis because her quality of life had deteriorated so much. It was a devastating time for us as a family, but we supported her in her decision.

Experience the beauty and comfort of our garden. Take a leisurely stroll through our 1.5-acre garden, a peaceful haven lovingly tended by dedicated volunteers. Bursting with colour and fragrance, it offers a place of solace and reflection for our patients, their families, and our staff. Co-designed by Monty Don, the garden is home to a stunning array of flora, featuring David Austin Roses, which will be in full bloom and bursting with delightful

fragranc, bringing moments of calm and comfort to all who visit. Join Liam Beddall, Head Rosarian at David Austin Roses, from 11:30am for a talk on the history of David Austin English Roses, with expert tips on getting the best from them and ideas for planting with companion plants. Our team of volunteer gardeners will be scattered throughout the garden, ready and happy to answer any questions you may have.

Discover the beauty of a restored historic garden. Originally designed by the renowned Percy Cane a century ago, this stunning garden has been lovingly restored. Since 2018, the current owners have breathed new life into the grounds, reviving the Walled Garden, which now flourishes with fresh fruit and vegetables. Wander through beautifully reclaimed spaces, including the Sunken Garden, now transformed into an elegant rose garden, and explore the oak garden nestled beneath towering trees. An old aviary has been re-imagined as a

charming tool shed, while restored bird ponds and pools provide a haven for wildlife. Enjoy a peaceful woodland walk beneath ancient oaks, take in the breathtaking backdrop of Dinmore Hill, or follow the garden’s edge to the tranquil River Lugg. This is a truly magical setting, blending history, nature, and restoration—an experience not to be missed! Due to limited parking, we’ve split the event into morning and afternoon sessions. If you’re visiting in the morning, please leave by 1.45pm to make room for afternoon guests.

Discover this stunning garden with breathtaking mountain views and unique sculptures, where nature and art come together in perfect harmony. Lose yourself in this wonderful woodland garden set in a tranquil valley above Ledbury.

The garden covers four acres and has an ornamental stream, plus sculptures with paths linking different aspects of the garden. There are fascinating hidden corners with different views around every corner, and secluded seating areas in this beautiful setting.

A Growing Partnership: Radbournes and our Open Gardens, 11 years of support!

Returning like a showpiece rose, we’re delighted that our perennial supporters Radbournes have continued their sponsorship of our Open Gardens for 2026. The Rotherwas-based firm, which supplies gardening and landscaping materials, has sponsored our Open Gardens since 2016. Over the years, their support hasn’t just been limited to the Open Gardens sponsorship. Homme House

Weston Hall dates from the 16th century. It has been in Pelham Aldrich-Blake’s family for four generations, and each has left its mark on the house and garden. The massive Cedar of Lebanon in front of the house possibly dates back to the 1830’s. This part of the grounds has many interesting trees and shrubs, including

dawn redwood, maidenhair tree, pocket handkerchief tree, various magnolias, and a fine variegated dogwood. The walled garden was redesigned in 1989, and along with fruit and vegetables now has herbaceous borders, lawns, yew hedges and a pond. The folly that overlooks the walled garden was built in 2000 to mark the millennium. The inner courtyard adjoining the house was redesigned in 2007, with a new pool and fountain.

Explore the tranquil beauty of Treago Castle. Set within about 10 acres of garden and grounds, there is a terraced formal garden with an ornamental pond planted in 1989. Accessed by steps or through a rose-smothered pergola, is the ‘wilderness’ or arboretum path which winds its way up to the Victorian walled garden. The sheltered position of the walled garden enabled

the current Richard Mynors to create a vineyard in the 1980s. Sadly, the vineyard is no more, but the family still enjoys fruit and vegetables from the garden. Pre-booked tours of this stunning castle, built by Richard Mynors in 1480 and still home to his descendants, are available for £10 per person.

Discover the colour and creativity of Stoneleigh. Set in a picturesque country lane, this property is just a short walk from Fownhope’s pretty, medieval village church. Admire ponds teaming with plump and brightly coloured fish. The back garden has recently been professionally redesigned with the rectangular grass lawn and boundary-hugging flower beds replaced by a lawn shape that could be described as the body of an electric guitar, complemented by scalloped flower beds.

Stepping stone access through rose arches leads to a narrow boundary path. Astrantia, blue geraniums and heucheras will be complemented with waving anemone, creamy white gladioli and glorious roses during your visit. If there’s time, pop into the garden letterpress workshop for a quick demo using traditional metal type.   Parking is available at Fownhope Recreation Ground, just a short walk from the garden. Explore the beauty and wildness of The Poplands & Harp Cottage. Nestled on the gentle eastern slopes of Orcop Hill these two gardens are only feet apart, but that’s where the similarity ends. The Poplands is a beautiful mature garden with water features, flower-rich beds and an ethereal grasses border. Orchard beds house a hosta collection and extensive ranges of salvias and agapanthas thrive in the borders. The garden provides a sanctuary and release site for rescued hedgehogs. The Harp garden is best described as wild and quirky. It is over an acre in size, largely developed over the past 20 years and is a mix of areas with over a hundred trees and several ‘enclosed gardens’ of various shapes and styles. The well-tended garden spans five acres facing South and West. Herbaceous borders, rose walks, a laburnum tunnel, and Italian Gardens are among the highlights, plus the addition of a Japanese garden. Conservatories and large greenhouses contain species
