Welcome to the Package Division and Freight & Tankhaul Division meetings.

The road ahead is a demanding one. Purolator negotiations open this year, and we owe our members at the table the strongest possible results.

At the same time, the spread of Driver Inc. continues to undercut wages, erode standards, and threaten good jobs. The presentation on this file will be essential listening.

Package and freight workers keep this country moving. Our discussions this week will shape what we deliver back to them.

Thank you for the work you do, and for the days of focused discussion ahead.

François Laporte, met with Teamster reps at UPS Canada to reiterate his full support for the bargaining committee. UPS Canada workers aren’t alone in thisthey’ve got the full force of the Teamsters Union behind them.

François Laporte met with UPS workers in Calgary to thank them for their hard work and commitment. These members work at one of the largest UPS hubs in the country. They keep parcels moving and communities connected every day.

UPS continues to aggressively pursue growth opportunities in the Canadian supply chain. In 2025, the company announced the acquisition of Andlauer Transportation Systems – Healthcare Group, marking a significant entry into the highly specialized medical delivery market - one of the most promising growth areas for unionized carriers. Medical couriers must be Health Canada accredited and remain in compliance with strict regulations, including temperature control and the separation of medical shipments from the regular supply chain. Andlauer or ATS has a Canadian market share north of 80%.

While the media in the US continues to report a significant loss of good unionized UPS jobs as the Company’s corporate strategy pivots away from low revenue freight (mainly Amazon packages) –UPS Canada continues to report incremental growth in the Canadian market.

Here is a photo from the annual training seminar for Purolator union stewards in Quebec. Special recognition to our sister Nathalie Guillemette, Director of Education, for her work in designing and co-hosting the conference.

In September 2026, the Canada Council of Teamsters and 12 Locals from across Canada will commence collective bargaining with Purolator to renew the current collective agreement expiring December 31, 2026. Member expectations are at an all-time high, shaped by the impact of the 2025 UPS Agreement, and current world uncertainty. The 2026 negotiations will be challenging, requiring our members to make critical decisions about their future. With global factors such as tariffs and economic uncertainty at play, securing a fair deal will demand ongoing analysis and strategic navigation. Regional correlations will be conducted across Canada, and national correlations will occur during the week of August 18 - 20, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. This will be a key opportunity for meaningful debate and strategy development to solidify a strong and concise focus points for these key negotiations.

Local Union 879 member Joseph Bayards was named ISAAC Instruments’ 2025 Driver of the Year for North America. Brother Bayards (pictured at right) is a 36-year Teamster who works for Connell Transport in Hamilton, Ontario. Teamsters from coast to coast congratulate Brother Bayards on this well-deserved achievement.
