Teaching an Old Dog New Tricks: Smart Journey in a 125-Year-Old Company

With a history that dates back to the invention of aluminum, Arconic approaches automation by combining the best of what's new --machines --and the best of what has always set the company apart --its people. While machines, for example, focus on repetitive operations, massive data integrated data collection, high speed rolling mill controls, surface quality measurement systems and practice and order control, people with specific skill sets continue to focus on problem solving, operational excellence, continuous improvement and new product development and implementation. At the interface between the two it is critical to get the right data to the right people at the right time so they can make the best decision. The key challenges we have in this new reality are around people development and retention, ability to maintain knowledge over several technology generations, increasing the speed of implementation, overcoming the challenge between theory and practice and the rapid evolution of both the approaches and systems.

The Digital Twin Acceleration and Institutionalization
