Why Canada is a Key Player in Industry 4.0 With the recent addition of Tesla Co-Founder Marc Tarpenning to the OTTO Motors advisory board, OTTO Motors CEO Matt Rendall will discuss why Canadian innovations are attracting the attention of international executives and the role these technologies will play in manufacturing for the next industrial revolution: Industry 4.0. Matt Rendall, CEO, OTTO Motors, a division of Clearpath Robotics Matt Rendall is CEO and Co-Founder of Clearpath where he is responsible for driving the strategic commercialization of industrial telerobotics and autonomous systems, and setting the overarching vision for the company. Through his leadership, Clearpath expanded into the industrial sector with the launch of its industrial division, OTTO Motors. The division provides self-driving vehicle technology to some of the world’s most innovative brands including GE and John Deere.

Creating Disruptions in Manufacturing Additive manufacturing has generated a great deal of interest making it difficult to discern hype from reality. Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) is a public/private partnership focused on identifying and demonstrating high impact industrial applications of additive manufacturing. We will describe recent technological advances that are radically changing the additive manufacturing industry. Specifically, we will describe technological advances that directly impact the economics of additive enabling the development of microfactories where locally sourced materials can be transformed to locally manufactured products. Two examples are auto and wind turbine manufacturing. Dr. Lonnie Love Corporate Fellow and Group Leader, Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Systems Research Group Lonnie Love, Ph.D., is a Corporate Fellow and Group Leader of Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Manufacturing Systems Research Group. He is the project lead for the Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) program at ORNL that is focusing on large scale, high speed composite additive manufacturing that is now being commercialized by Cincinnati Incorporated.
