Jeff Speck, who helped fuel the national movement for walkable communities with his book Walkable City, is making a special appearance for CSG. He’ll be reading from his updated 10thAnniversary edition and signing his book – for sale at a discount at the event. WMATAis facing operating budget challenges while trying to create a balanced and simpler fare structure. They’re considering moving capital funding to operating needs. Following a horrific crash, our partners at Cleveland Park Smart Growth are urging DDOT to limit ConnecticutAve to four lanes and reinstate parking during rush hour, until the street is redesigned with protected bike lanes.

The city is surveying city residents about the Chevy Chase Library and Community Center The survey is part of the visionary effort to transform this civic hub with a new library, community center, outdoor public spaces, and affordable housing.

Event: West Hyattsville crash analysis by Strong Towns (March 17 at 2pm; register)

Hyattsville has invited our allies at StrongTowns to investigate a crash near the West Hyattsville Metro, where a driver hit and killed a person crossing the street. What are the flaws in the designs of our streets? How do we build safer streets? Panelists include local government, Strong Towns staff, and residents.

Help make walking safer in Montgomery County! (March 23; sign up)

Testify for the Pedestrian Master Plan which hopes to create safer, more comfortable experiences walking or rolling around the county. Meanwhile, Council President Glass has introduced Bill 11-23 to mandate specific pedestrian safety measures.

This is the culmination of its Missing Middle Housing Study as the county seeks to create more housing options.

CSG and several supporters spoke in favor of rezoning for the West Falls Church Metro Station redevelopment at the Feb. 8 planning commission hearing. They deferred their decision until March 8 so there is still time to send in your comments.
