Twisters down under...
Yes, we have tornadoes. The latest high profile tornado event in Australia swept through central western New South Wales, with the Bureau of Meteorology reporting damage to houses, powerlines and trees around the Clear Creek area, north-east of Bathurst. In fact, Australia has surprisingly ‘optimal’ conditions for the formation of tornadoes, which have the fastest wind speeds of any natural hazard type on Earth. We have the large areas of flat land, where the winds can whip up and swirl, much like “Tornado Alley”, a stretch of central United States where tornadoes are most frequent. These are the zones where one can develop twisters from warm, moist air colliding with a batch of cold, dry air. Geoscience Australia says there have been more than 40 tornado-related deaths in Australia in the past 100 years, but because we are a sparsely populated country relative to the United States, damage in Australia (and deaths) continue to be relatively rare. Earl Grey ‘sandwich’
The power of conversation
Rural Women in Conversation is a simple but powerful idea developed by Southern Downs’ Margot Tesch. Margot believs that “seeing things from another person’s perspective has to grow you and make you more compassionate, empathetic and understanding,” and has developed a format to facilitate conversation at her Cement Mills property west of Warwick. Rural Women in Conversation is a quarterly event where rural women meet at a central location for two hours to connect with others, discuss an interesting topic, and return home with brains whirring and hearts full. “Earl Grey tea is comfort in a cup and luscious buttercream is delight in a bowl, so putting the two together in a smooth-as-silk Earl Grey buttercream is a match made in heaven,” writes the Country Journal’s Krista Bjorn. Buttercream is simply softened butter whipped with powdered sugar and a drizzle of cream. By switching out the cream for a few tablespoons of strong Earl Grey tea, it becomes a satiny icing that enhances any baked goods it is served with... and Krista shows you how to go about creating a fabulous ‘sandwich’ using Early Grey buttercream as the (07) 46 619 835 E warwick@rfsteelbuildings.com.au ‘meat’.
