Mystery car’s heritage

Australia’s biggest native fruit orchard has set a mark in the sand for the future of truly Australian fruit growing. Planted by the Mamabulanjin Aboriginal Corporation, the orchard of Kakadu plum are expected to bring in around $5.6 million a year, long term, but the project shines a light on a potential new path for producing fruit trees that are literally ‘born’ for our local conditions. Page 5 has more.. What was once empty ground at Hirstglen, covered with couch grass and kikuyu is now a verdant oasis of 9 garden beds, rambling grape vines, an orchard with 60 trees, numerous flower beds, and a burgeoning bush tucker food forest. Carolyn Crawford moved to her Hirstglen property about ten years ago and immediately began getting the ground ready for gardens. In this edi-E warwick@rfsteelbuildings.com.au tion, Carolyn shares her secrets with Krista Bjorn...and our readers...on page 12.
