esearchers at the Leslie Research Facility in Toowoomba were delighted to host the announcement of over $140 million worth of research and extension in agriculture last week. “It’s a good time to be in agriculture,” Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries, Minister for Rural Communities, The Honourable Mark Furner said. “It’s so important that we develop and enhance the science. We want to make sure that we support the GDP that supports jobs and sees that agriculture goes well into the future.” The funding is to drive productivity and innovation in
Queensland’s livestock, aquaculture, cropping, horticulture, forestry, timber, and food processing industries. “It’s important that we make sure we keep up the reputation that our farmers hold,” Mr Furner said, “and that we have the research to back up the good work they do.” Mark Hickman, Director of Sustainable Farming Systems Research, Development & Extension at Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is excited about the advancements in technology in the agriculture space. “Technology is improving and enhancing on a regular basis,” he said to The Daily Journal.
