Instead of the pokies, why not spend the arvo poking around for real gold in the fresh air? You won’t lose much and have a lot more fun. John Gordon recently travelled to Thanes Creek fossicking area from the Gold Coast to try his hand at panning for gold. “I watched it on TV and thought, that’s something I want to go and do,” Mr Gordon said. In true Aussie fashion, he wanted to be written up as a professional fossicker with 23 years of experience and a track record of pulling out five ounces of gold a day, but reality is a little less awe-inspiring.
