Fire at Warwick State High Staff Reports

editor@thedailyjournal.ink

Paramedics were called to a fire at the northwest end of Warwick State High School on Sunday, 4th December, the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) confirmed of the blaze at 2.33am, their services, fortunately, not needed. The Department of Education confirmed with our newspapers that the fire took place, and it “resulted in extensive damage to one of the school buildings”. “The school is working with QPS and QFES in their investigations,” an Education Department

spokesperson said of the damage to Year 7 and 8 classrooms in a junior precinct. This week, the school “reallocated the affected classes” and families were informed about the incident. “Guidance Officer support is available to any students that may require it,” the spokesperson further said. “The department is working with the school to ensure that the block will be ready for use by the end of the summer holidays. Schools are amongst our most precious community assets and we all have a role to play in keeping them safe.”

As the matter is under police investigation, the department encouraged assistance via the School Watch program, stating, “We ask all communities to report any suspicious activities at a school by calling the police or School Watch on 13 17 88.” Members of the school community have told our newspapers that they are “very disappointed” as to the incident and clean up involved considering the end-of-year timing and the successful results of the 2022 educational year. The damage to the school is visible at the corner of Victoria and Guy Streets in Warwick.

It was quite a homecoming in the past fortnight for Ben Sullivan before reporting for duty on Monday, November 28th as a fully-fledged firefighter at QFES Warwick station. But a visit to the local fire station is nothing new for the well-known Warwick local, who served as an auxiliary firefighter for over two years before receiving the call up to the QFES Whyte Island training facility in Brisbane enroute to a career in permanent firefighter ranks. He graduated on Friday, November 25th with 16 other new firies to circulate across Queensland’s permanently
