Claire McKenzie’s daughter, Hana, thanks the Granite Belt community for rallying around her Mum following a horrific accident with a slasher on 24th November in Ballandean, south of Stanthorpe, setting the record straight that her Mum’s arm was not lost.
Speaking exclusively to our newspapers, Hana said the arm was “severely damaged but doctors have managed to save it at
this stage and all signs are positive”.
At the time of printing, the resolute young woman said Ms McKenzie remains in an induced coma in the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. The 61 year-old has lost the use of both of her legs, and the condition of the arm might be at risk due to infection.
“We expect Mum to be brought out of the coma late this week or next week,” Hana told us. “She has undergone multiple surgeries on her legs and arm … (and) all have gone well with no sign of infection at this stage.”
Not only have the Granite Belt community stepped up with donations to be dropped into Gracious Giving in Maryland St, Stanthorpe, a GoFundMe page has been set up for monetary help, Hana saying, “The care and support has been overwhelming.”
“We would like to thank the following people,” she said, specifying: “The Ballandean, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield communities for providing assistance wherever needed - we are blown away by their kindness and generosity.

Wind power expansion
Olav Muurlink editor@thedailyjournal.ink
180turbines at the Karara wind farm and Macintyre wind farm west of Warwick will be joined by another 180 a little to the south at Herries Range under plans announced earlier this week.
The 360 monsters will collectively make one of the largest onshore wind projects in the world, and certainly the largest in Australia, with a total project value of $4 billion. The announcement by Acciona Energia, which has an office in Warwick, has been welcomed by Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk as a piece of the
renewables puzzle required to shift the state towards low emissions targets.
Herries Range is due west of Leslie Dam in the Durikai State Forest, and the additional 1,000 megawatts will mean the precinct will generate enough to power 1.4 million homes—at least when the generators are all firing.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles (pictured) said the expanded project will mean more jobs: up to 600 more during construction. Building power infrastructure, what the government is call-
ing the ‘SuperGrid’, will take an additional 220 workers, in the process enabling the precinct to plug into a network that covers the whole southern region of Queensland.

I would like to acknowledge everyone who supported our recent garage sale by purchasing many of the items which were for sale.
The communities support made all the preparation work carried out by our members and volunteers worthwhile and resulted in achieving a successful outcome for the
day. We had a good response and part of that I would have to put down to the assistance from The Daily Journal and the Town & Country Journal. Your newspaper’s assistance was greatly appreciated.
I would also like to take this opportunity to compliment your staff on producing such a great newspaper for our local community.

Response to Michelle Conkas from her letter in TCJ (24/11/22)
Regarding this comment:
“It denigrates the quality of this newspaper to continually print disinformation by Viv Forbes. Viv has a long history of funding climate science denialism through his climate sceptic organisation the Saltbush Club, he writes these same “letters” as a column for The Spectator, was a director at Stanmore Coal, and has been associated with many
other coal companies. He has a vested interest in slowing the green energy revolution. I hope the readers of this paper realise that almost 100% of scientist agree that the climate is changing, humans are the cause and we need to act now to reduce fossil fuel usage to have a survivable planet. Only these people benefiting financially from continued fossil fuel usage are denying the science.”
(Viv Forbes writes)
1. I have no “vested interest in slowing the green revolution” apart from not wanting electricity costs to soar and/or the lights go out. My wife and I live on a small property and we have no investments that benefit from fossil fuel usage. But we do have solar panels on our roof.
2. The “100% of scientists agree” is a nonsense statement supported by no sensible person.
3. I studied physics, chemis-
try, geology and maths at the Warwick High School, and my scholastic performance is recorded on the honour board in that school. Then I studied that same subjects for an additional 4 years at the university of Queensland, back when science was science. After graduation I then studied meteorology back in the days before that profession caught climate hysteria
Viv Forbes Washpool
Editor’s note: While Mr Forbe’s statement about ‘100% of scientists’ is of course true about almost every matter, and ‘established science’ is always evolving, I would point out that climate science was first ‘established’ when (in his words) ‘science was science’, by an American scientist, Mrs Eunice Foote...a discovery that was redisovered, irony of ironies, by an Oklahoman petroleum geologist in 2010. Climate science was around when Mr Forbes was at uni, but perhaps he was not aware of it.
Another vibrant young life lost
Selina Venier editor@thedailyjournal.ink
The Southern Downs is again reeling from the tragic loss of another young life.
At 7.55pm on Friday 25th November, Warwick’s Melita Cupitt (pictured) sustained critical injuries when her car veered off the Warwick-Killarney Road at Morgan Park. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old keen horse rider was crowned Miss Junior Dalby Showgirl in 2017.
Her Instagram profile features her horse, Whiskey Apollo, with the description of “living life to the fullest”.
Local police are appealing for dashcam footage to piece together the circumstances around the single-vehicle incident,
asking anyone who can assist to contact Policelink on 131 444.
Miss Cupitt’s death follows the tragic passing of PGC College’s graduating senior, Will Turner, in an accident on the Cunningham Highway in Gladfield.
The Small Newspaper Company extends our sympathies to both families, and the many friends of these young adults.

Travellers on the New England Highway, approaching the southern roundabout into Stanthorpe, were met with advertising of a different kind when a Coles semi-trailer dangerously came to rest on top of the structure on Saturday 26th November.
The driver who mis-
judged the turn but fortunately was able to stop, was unharmed by the incident.
The roundabout was unable to be used, in the normal way, into Wallangarra Rd, Stanthorpe, for a few hours, as emergency services assisted. Cars were eventually diverted through the roundabout, one lane at a time, to continue on New England Highway, some accessing Stanthorpe town via Mackenzie St, opposite Ashbern Farms, or continuing their journey southward.
Locals and others took Facebook to video and photograph the spectacle of the incident, some cautioning that the 60km per hour speed, indicated well before the roundabout, is rarely adhered to by motorists in general.
This isn’t the first time there’s been an incident at the same roundabout with a B-double truck also unable to make the necessary turn successfully, resulting in it coming to rest on its side, on 3rd March this year.

Mature...
I’d really started paying attention to commercials about men’s hair products recently. Not the ones about manscaping and hair removal. The ones about greying and going bald.
I suppose it comes with being in my mid 50’s, but lately I have really noticed I’m looking a bit sad in the hair department. In fact, generally, I’m starting to look ummmmm mature?.
It’s never ever really been an issue for me. Quite the opposite in fact. As a young man I had a really bushy head of thick, wavy hair that people used to tell me
was wonderful. To me it was just a pain. It stuck up everywhere and made a terrible mess on the floor at the barbers every time it was cut.
Not long after I met my wife, she bought a pair of hair clippers and started cutting my hair in a buzz cut. Problem fixed. I did this for 20 or more years. I did actually grow my hair a little for our wedding so I didn’t look like a skinhead in our photos but apart from that, every 2 weeks or so, buzz buzz buzz, off it would come.
It wasn’t until a few years ago when I moved to Warwick and moved into our house opposite Rene’s Continental Hair Salon that I changed my style.
I was chatting to Rene one day and he told me that since I was no longer a policeman but was in business, I needed to change my hairdo. I needed to look less like a thug and more like a businessman is what he actually said. Good old Rene. It was a bit of a surprise that it took a couple of months, not weeks, to get any length worth cutting into any
type of shape though.
My darling wifey wasn’t surprised when I pointed this out to her. She told me I’d been thinning on top since she met me, but regardless, she didn’t marry me for my hair anyway.
So, the thinning was one thing, but combine that with the greying, It’s left me feeling a bit fragile. (Can anyone say “midlife crisis”)
I really have zero confidence in hair regrowth products but I did think I might be able to do something about the greying. I saw product advertised that said it was as simple as washing your hair but when I looked up the instructions it was just hair dye, with all those stinky chemicals. I’ve given that a miss. Instead, I have another cure. Guaranteed to fix my thinning and greying hair issue.
A friend of mine. An apprentice barber needs to shave someone’s head as part of a TAFE unit they are doing. We are doing it on Monday. Problem fixed. Well, for a couple of months.

COLUMN CENTIMETRES
with Olav Muurlink
This is my second trip to Bangladesh this year, but this is the big one, where I visit each of the 40 schools and 17 kindergartens that the charity founded by Fred Hyde, the Southern Downs’ most extraordinary son helped build. Barring 2021, every year I speak to every one of the 170-odd staff members ‘alone’ …as much as you can be ‘alone’ in Bangladesh. In a country of 170 million packed in the space of two Tasmanias, a 6’4” white man can never quite be ‘alone’.
People often go melty and say ‘aww’ when they hear I am involved with a children’s charity, but have no illusions. I’m not here because I am particularly fond of children; and I’m not here because I’m particularly fond of Bangladesh either. It’s the Henry Ford model of cuisine here; a huge choice of foods, as long as they are curry; the days are always beautiful as long as you like it hot and humid. The beds at night are always welcoming, as long as you like the mattress somewhere on the Mohs scale between hard as concrete and soft as sandstone.
It would be nice if I was fond of children, but children to me are not cute like puppies or baby donkeys, but somewhat irritating like untrained adults. Which is why I am a great believer in education. It definitely makes humans more bearable, sometimes even positively lovable.
holidays and ‘spare’ hours into Bangladesh because it’s hard to argue that we could all do with more education, and none more so than the children on the muddy fringes of Bangladesh, where one false move means drowning, and every thunderstorm represents an existential threat.
But in case you are thinking ‘that sounds very noble of you, Olav’ (and even if you are not) let me tell you there is a very selfish side to this work, which as you may have guessed chiefly consists of eating curry, sleeping on hard beds, sweating and doing HR work.
And it’s absolutely magic. This time I’ll be here for three weeks, and you know how you feel when you have had a fever, and it breaks, and you have felt nausea and now it has literally gone down the toilet…how good it feels? Well that’s what I feel when I step of the plane back on Australian soil… the sweet clean air of Brisbane town, peak hour traffic that moves at Formula One race pace compared with transport in Bangladesh, to a bed so soft, princesses themselves would go to sleep murmuring, “peas, ah such soft vegetables”.
So I strongly recommend doing something you hate for a few weeks a year; it will make the rest of the year of much more bearable. It’s like going to Bali, but in reverse.

Traditional music in the street
Deborah Wheeler Contributed
Didgeridoo musician, Aaron Chatfield (pictured) has once again provided entertainment to Warwick locals with his special brand of traditional music. Aaron is a skilled didgeridoo player who first came to the attention of The Daily Journal when he called into our office last year.
Since then, Aaron, his wife Sarah, their two sons and their small puppy had taken to the road and have travelled up and down the coast as far as Cairns spreading the music, culture and love to communities along the way.
When asked what were some of the highlights for the year, he said “It was a big thrill to play at the Redcliffe Dolphins stadium and be a part of the traditional smoking ceremony. Earlier, I also got to do a few performances with local Aboriginal musician, Jamarley Dawson.”
“I am looking forward to continuing my performances in the year ahead as there are not many of us who perform traditional didgeridoo music. The calendar for 2023 has already started to fill. I have been approached to play at a number of Yogi retreats and it is good to see people contacting us as they prepare their future planning for the new year. One of the things I really get a lot of pleasure from is teaching the children how to play the didgeridoo.”

Some of the exhibitions at Warwick Art Gallery involve years of planning and communication but sometimes one comes along that is just the right fit at the right time, and the pieces all fall together without a lot of fuss.
Our Other Mother is one such exhibition which came our way via an email from the coordinator of the Our Other Mother exhibition on the Darling Downs, Elissa Parker, looking for last minute venues and luckily, we had a little space free.
The twelve illustrations arrived yesterday, and they are just beautiful and came with bios about the illustrators from Australia, the UK, Germany, France, Iceland, Iran, Italy, Singapore and the USA!
The #OurOtherMother campaign launched on Mother’s Day in 2021 with an open call to create for the planet - Our Other Mother. Thousands of artists participated from all over the world. This exhibition is a creative and fun opportunity for people to come together and reflect on what we can all do to push for change in the future climate.
Decisions made on climate change by our leaders at the
COP 27 climate talks in Eygpt will affect the chances our children have tomorrow. Part of the mission of the Our Other Mother campaign is to call on leaders to act to give all the world’s children the brightest
possible future.
One contributing artist, Rebecca Cobb, said, “Whoever we are and whatever we believe in, we all share a home on our planet Earth. If we can join
together to celebrate, talk about, care for and protect it, then we stand a much better chance of changing the devastating course of climate change.”
Jim Field, another contribut-
ing artist and illustrator of the renowned Oi Frog series, said: “It’s our responsibility as parents to try and change the path we’re on. To demand and make a better, safer future for our children and for #OurOtherMother.”
Similar Our Other Mother exhibitions are being organized by parents in Glasgow, Australia, Germany, Spain, Nigeria, and Sweden.
It was started in the UK by climate parent groups Parents For Future UK, Mothers Rise Up and Our Kids’ Climate, alongside illustrator networks Kid Lit 4 Climate and Editartz.
The campaign has also been run by climate parent groups in Australia, Brazil, Nigeria, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden and USA.
Thousands of pieces of art can be viewed on the #OurOtherMother hashtag on Instagram.

The Southern Downs’ vibrant arts and cultural scene is set to benefit from a $109,832 boost, with the opening of the latest Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) round.
Southern Downs Regional Council has continued its collaborative partnership with the Queensland Government and is inviting local artists and creative organisations to apply for funding to pursue projects that support arts and culture experience across the region.
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said as part of this successful, long-term collaboration, the Queensland Government will provide $2.13 million for RADF 2022–2023 to a total of 59 local councils, who will contribute a co-investment amount of over $1.9 million.
“Established in 1991, RADF is a long-standing success story between the Queensland Government and regional councils, enabling local artists and arts workers to tell their rich and unique stories, boosting regional employment opportunities and other positive economic outcomes,” Minister Enoch said.
“For 31 years, RADF has provided a legacy of creating new art and cultural experiences for Queensland audiences and communities, and a platform for professional development and growth across the regional arts sector.”
Southern Downs Councillor Marco Gliori said the funding program offered a prime opportunity for community groups to bring ideas to life.
“Arts and culture greatly contribute to
the vibrancy and liveability of our region,” Councillor Gliori said.
“The Southern Downs is well renowned for its thriving and diverse arts scene and our reputation as a creative hub makes our region a much-sought after destination within the creative circles.
“Through previous RADF programs, many exciting projects have been brought to life that have enhanced the strong sense of community on the Southern Downs.
“From street art to heritage projects, workshops to cultural artists and enter tainers, these projects were all given life through RADF funding.
The application form and guidelines are available on Council’s website at RADF - Southern Downs Regional Council (sdrc.qld.gov.au).
The new grant round is funded with $39,500 from the Queensland Government, together with Council’s contribution of $50,000 and rolled over funds from last year’s program.
“I strongly encourage emerging and established artists to review the pro gram’s guidelines and consider how they can apply to utilise funds to bring a crea tive endeavour to fruition.”
The closing date for applications is midnight, Monday 31st July 2023, and projects must not start before 16th December 2022 and must be completed by 31st December 2023.
For further information, contact Council’s Acting Grants Officer Alexis Doyle on 1300 MY SDRC (1300 697 372).

This new technology will save money in the long term and this is something I am very conscious of especially with the ever-rising cost of electricity.” The photo shows Bellingham’s crane busy at work lifting the old unit out through the roof of the club. The family also remain grateful for practical help with the animals on the Ballandean property where Ms McKenzie cares for wildlife, as well as donations to the GoFundMe page. Their short-term focus is “getting Mum through surgery and bringing her out of the induced coma”, Hana said.

Acciona Energia managing director Brett Wickham said the Herries Range Wind Farm would be the company’s third clean energy project in Queensland, with a 600MWp solar farm also under construction near Gladstone. The Spanish energy giant, which doesn’t just work in energy projects but is a global force in construction, is investing heavily in Australia and “expanding the MacIntyre Precinct has been a natural decision for us.” He claimed “wide support” for the project from farmers, residents and the community.
McKenzie’s family and unlike other newspapers, we have verified facts, been sensitive to this very serious incident and have chosen not to specify the address of the Ballandean property, out of respect for the family.

ing, almost $8,000 had been raised. We will continue to report accurately and sensitively on Ms McKenzie’s situation, reiterating thanks to all involved in demonstrating the collective good will of the Granite Belt community.
The plan is to seamlessly shift focus from constructing the Macintyre wind project to Herries range, effectively extending the constructing period, and the degree to which construction will inject money into the local economy. While building the renewables project will take an investment of non-renewables, in the form of coal and steel, it is understood that the coal and steel will be ‘local’ -Queensland coal and Australian steel going into construction.

How to lead a truly great life
Contributed by the family of Milly Hancock (1936-2022)
Killarney lost a much loved and wellknown local identity when Milly Hancock passed away on 24th September this year. Milly was your classic country woman: hard-working, honest, humble, warm and welcoming. She lived by the principle to ‘never say a bad word about anybody’, and this positive attitude proved to be inspiring to all those who knew and loved her. She had enormous strength of character and, during her 86 years, she demonstrated that kindness and generosity are the way to lead a life that is truly great.
Born on 5th May 1936, Milly spent her early life on the farm at Emu Vale, with her parents, Amelia and Clint Hoffman, and her brother, Philip, and three sisters - Joyce, Joanie and Margie, fondly known as the ‘Hoffman Lovelies’.
Milly loved the farming life and from a young age, her true character shone through. She learned to milk cows and proved herself to be a hard worker on the family dairy farm. Ever capable, Milly was given a driver’s licence at 12 to drive the milk truck in daylight hours, between the farm and Warwick. She would ride her horse bareback to the local school, picking up others on the way, a daily joy that only came to an end when Milly went off to boarding school at PGC in Warwick.
Those farming roots were never far away though, and when romance with Rolly Hancock blossomed into marriage, Milly’s father, Clint, was heard to say that he ‘was losing the best worker he ever had!’ As a fitting wedding present, he gave his daughter her own Brindle house cow. She was thrilled with this gift: a gift that gave back to her every day.
And so began the next phase of Milly’s life, with a cherished and loving 68-year marriage to Rolly, her soul mate. Milly gained a second loving family when she joined the Hancock’s. Rolly’s parents, Teck and Muriel welcomed Milly with open arms, and Ernest, and his four sisters, Bernice, Sylvia, Glenice and Lorraine with their partners, all formed loving relationships that lasted a lifetime.
In the early years of their marriage, Milly’s work ethic and milking skills proved very handy. Even while pregnant, Milly would set to work with Rolly and his dad in the dairy. When
the milking machines broke down, the men would swing into action, washing down the teats, while Milly’s task would be to milk all 70 cows by hand, with speed and efficiency.
Milly would be known today as a ‘Supermum’: raising six children (Rohan, Hector, Debbie, Tony, Donna and Maryanne); dairying from 4am, delivering meat orders around the local area; cleaning the butcher shop; cooking family meals; and of course chopping the wood, rounding up cattle; and doing the bookwork at night for her and Rolly’s growing business, the Killarney Abattoir.
For more than 50 years, the Killarney abattoir added to the fabric of Killarney, employing a great number of townsfolk, many of whom thought of Milly as their second mum. Milly was the ‘woman behind the man’ with her quiet strength and warm welcome.
Like a lot of countrywomen, you would wonder how Milly had time for anything else, but she had many hobbies and interests. She was a great gardener, with her large beautiful garden a testament to her loving touch, patience and persistence. She was a great cook, though she would say she was a plain coun-
try cook. Milly had the ability to miraculously turn a meal for two, into a delicious feast for 20 when unexpected visitors turned up. She could sew, crochet and belt out a tune on the organ or piano.
Milly loved her footy too, especially her favourite NRL team, the Cowboys. She was always a great supporter of any team in which her three boys played, cheering excitedly from the sidelines. This included both the rugby league teams in Warwick, the Wattles Rugby League Club in the Toowoomba competition, for which she was a life member. She also supported the Killarney Cutters in the Border league.
With her husband Rolly, she got so much joy out of following their eldest son, Rohan, for all of his Australian representative games, having fun in New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, France and the UK, as well as cheering Rohan on to victory in the epic first ever State of Origin game… and it wasn’t long before Milly had another generation of footballers to cheer for, with grandsons, great grandsons, and her granddaughter, Stephanie, all lacing up their boots.
Milly would’ve especially loved
Steph’s tribute try, the day after her passing, when as captain of the Prime Minister’s Australian rugby league women’s team, Steph booted her celebratory post-try kick to the heavens, and said ‘This one’s for you, Ma’. She was a good athlete herself, and more importantly, a good sport. Milly played a beautiful game of tennis, but true to her personality, her most impressive tennis skill was keeping the rally going so that everyone could have a good game. Many great friends were made at Wednesday’s ladies day tennis.
Milly loved her horses, and was a wonderful rider, having ridden all of her life. She enjoyed riding on the farm in the earlier years, and would often work with Rolly, both on horseback, driving the cattle up the mountain. As a young mother, she was a handy player in the local polocrosse team. Even when Milly turned 80, she had one request for a gift and that was to go riding. Her son, Hec, saddled up his horse and gently put Milly into the saddle, where she immediately kicked the horse up and took off cantering across the paddock. No slow walks for Milly!
Her full life was enriched by the enduring love of her husband, Rolly, and the loving family that they built together. Their 6 children soon grew to include daughters & sons in-law, then 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren with more on the way. There were also adored nieces and nephews. Family celebrations were, and will remain, large, loud, and a lot of fun.
Milly had many interests and was such a capable woman, yet she was so modest. Recently, Milly said that she didn’t think that there would be much to say at her funeral. She hadn’t won any awards or served on any committees, but Milly wasn’t taking into account her greatest achievement of all: being a wonderful human being.
Her acceptance of everyone, without judgement, her warmth and smile, her faith, and her kindness to those in need. These are the qualities that shone from Milly and were a gift to those around her.

She was a role model for how to lead a truly great life, not by winning awards, but by being a loving, kind and generous human being.

Artworks Granite Belt

‘Magical Places and Fairy Faces’ is a joint exhibition on display at the Artworks Station gallery, in the Ann-Marie O’Callaghan room. It features the paintings of Roz Wilson (pictured) complemented by the sculptural works of Patty Moxham.
This is the first public exhibition for Roz, and it opened on 11th November. Indeed, it was a night to remember with an enthusiastic group of guests eager to purchase some of these intriguing works.
Roz began her “serious arts practice” some 15 years ago when she found she had free time on her hands for a change, and she decided to explore her long-held inclinations for art.
“I have always admired Watercolour,” she said, “When I was able to devote time to art, this was the medium I approached first.”
Starting with small postcard sized scenes gave her instant reward for her effort. Roz took a
basic watercolour course and set out working depicting familiar scenes and places, often working from photographs.
After attending a Bellingen Camp Creative, she found it reinforced her knowledge and introduced new ideas, and Roz returns whenever she can. Roz has now reached a place in her arts practice where she confidently shares her knowledge to others, holding workshops at Artworks and for the Granite Belt Art Trail.
Passing on the joy of creating art has become an important part of Roz’s own work. Her lively, colourful works depict an innate sense of surprise at the natural world around her.
Over time Roz has explored different mediums saying acrylic media has allowed her to be less constrained. Her works encompass drawing and charcoal works as well and for some time Roz has taken commissions.
Travelling and seeing new places provides ample subject matter and her travel art set is always nearby to capture those memorable times. When asked how she chooses subjects Roz explained
that she gathers photographs and ideas in a folder, choosing appropriate ones to suit her mood and desired medium.
How long does it take to complete a work? “It depends on what I am painting and if it is acrylic or watercolour,” Roz said. Her first exhibition embodies works from 10years and they were chosen to match the whimsical feel of Patty’s works.
Roz was quite surprised to be asked to hold a solo exhibition, those of us who have admired her work over the last few years since it began catching the public eye here at the Stanthorpe show, are wondering why it took so long.
In any case it is a delightful exhibition and well worth a look.
The Gallery (on David St, Stanthorpe) is on display from 9am to 2pm Saturday and Sunday every week until the Christmas and New Year break and resumes January 7 for its final week!
Note from The Stanthorpe Record: We will feature a story with Patty Moxham shortly and thanks locals and visitors who appreciated our story before the opening was held.

The Long Paddock with Gerard Walsh
After almost a month with the highest rainfall of 1.8mm, everyone is talking about how dry it is.
On our Greymare property we had 766mm for the year to the end of October and then 36mm on November 1-2.
It is surprising how quick it has dried out, especially in the traprock country.
The granite country is still wet unless you happen to be in a buggy which I call ours or the side by side which is the official name.
We are yet to bog the side by side but there is always the first time.
Tractors, trucks and bobcats are easy to bog and few farmers have not bogged vehicles this year.
A branch of Lagoon Creek flows just inside our road gate and can stop us getting to the house and sheds.
It comes from across the road up Mountain Maid Rd but after a storm will only stop you for an hour or two.

Friendships and love affairs bring many surprises, expect the unexpected. Social scene is hectic and there will be many opportunities to spend time with friends and work mates.
Down the years, I can only recall being stopped four times, twice when I went to neighbours for a short time, once when we were stopped on the way to a function and once when I decided it was too high and went up the road two kilometres and then across country to the house.
Our gully is split in five up the road so the water in each section is much lower than at the gate and mailbox.
I could have waited for 30 minutes and crossed the gully but decided to go the long way as an example to our sons.
If Dad goes through water which is a bit higher than you expect, you can’t expect the boys not to do the same.
The biggest hassle with a gully between the road and the house is the cost of maintaining the crossing.
I reckon we have spent $600 already this year on the track crossing and it could do with a bit more now.

Well done in Stanthorpe
Five stars to the organisers and contributors of the 19th November Berry Festival in Stanthorpe’s Weeroona Park.
Headed by Amy Torrisi (second from left), the day was as memorable as the sunshine and here’s what this newspaper heard at the park among the laughter, eating and appreciation:
“My family and I are loving all the kids activities,” Sharee said.

Last week’s Long Paddock might have been “misleading” says veteran journal-
“Pleased to have such glorious weather today,” Tom said.
“I really liked helping to serve the ice creams but it was hot, and it was good to have one too,” a local primary schooler said.
“I thought there was a great variety of things to do and Alastair McLeod was fun,” Tess said.
“The Berry Festival rocked!” Sarah said.
ist Gerard Walsh. He said: “I meant to write Glenlyon Dam is 254,000 megalites when at capacity not 254 and both Connolly and Storm King Dams are 2000, not two.”
Warwick Men’s Shed massive garage sale
By Deborah Wheeler
One of the first happy customers to leave the Warwick Men’s Shed with a number of interesting items was local man David Cahill. David likes to go to the Warwick Men’s Shed garage sales whenever he can attend. This time he was looking for tools to use for his woodworking. “I have a great shed at home but am always on the lookout for more tools.”
Men’s Shed workers take a well-deserved break.
Jeff Harth of the Warwick Men’s Shed shared his thoughts on what they were hoping to achieve from the garage sale over the weekend. “Our on costs of keeping the shed open are quite extensive so the money raised will go towards the maintenance of our equipment and general expenses, especially big-ticket items such as electricity and insurance. We operate a ute which has its own mechanical upkeep but it is an essential piece of equipment. One of the many things we use it for is to collect
items which have been donated to the shed. We are often asked to collect items people don’t want any more but unfortunately, we can only take items we believe we can repurpose. We can take select pieces but we cannot do a total clean out though we do help where we can.”
Deb Charles was very happy to find a gem of a bargain when she visited the garage sale. “This small table will be just perfect for the grandchildren to play with,” she said.

Other winners in the run down were Wayne Watt (39) All on 38 were Trevor Malone, Bryan Slattery and Peter Balfour.
Finishing things off on 37 points were Grant Ollerton, Craig Burgess and James Bradshaw.

The Ladies will be having their Christmas Party game on Wednesday 7th December and as such tee times have been changed a little.
Early players will be able to tee off up until 8:30 then the next tee time will be 11:00am. Please check with the pro shop to ensure you don’t spoil the Ladies Day.
The Sporters Christmas Party game will be 21st December. It will be a 2 ball Ambrose with a shot gun start at 11:30am.
I will leave you with this truism “The practice swing and the conceded putt are everyone’s favourite shot, the rest can never be mastered”.

Stanthorpe beat big guns
visitors did not face the full 50 overs.
The Stanthorpe Mitchell Shield side had a comfortable win against Toowoomba on a rainy Sunday at Rockville Oval in Toowoomba.
Stanthorpe captain Lachlan Pill won the toss and batted and his side made 3-190 off 41 overs.
The game was cut short by rain so the
Opener Sam Dowie made 64 before he was run out and was well supported by Jordan Lanza with 36 and Jamie Carnell a quickfire 48 off 50 balls.
The target for Toowoomba was adjusted under the Duckworth Lewis calculation but it didn’t matter as Stanthorpe dismissed the home team for 136 in 38.3 overs.
Paceman Damian Anderson led the
bowling with 4-22 while Ned O’Reilly, Pill and Andrew Einam each took two wickets.
After two rounds, Lockyer leads the points table with two wins from Warwick and Stanthorpe with one each and Toowoomba yet to win a game.

Border Rivers expands
Gerard Walsh sports@thedailyjournal.ink
Next season’s Border Rivers Rugby League will have a record six clubs following the inclusion of Warwick club Eastern Suburbs and Boggabilla.
Long-time Warwick Cowboys centre/back rower Matt Marshall will coach the men’s rugby league team.
Carlee O’Mara has played rugby league in the Toowoomba competition and will coach the women’s leaguetag team.
Border Rivers president
Lindsay Adams said the Border league had accepted both clubs.
“Eastern Suburbs has permission from the Toowoomba Rugby League to play in the BRRL and Boggabilla is waiting for a release from Group 19 in New South Wales,” Adams said.
“Boggabilla wants to utilise players from within their own community.”
Eastern Suburbs president Sam Beckhouse said the new men’s and women’s teams were another opportunity for locals to play footy.
“We have been working on this for more than a year,” she said.
The BRRL will start the season with a round robin the week before Easter and start the home-andaway rounds the week after Easter.
Other clubs in the league are Stanthorpe, Tenterfield, Texas and Inglewood. All clubs will field men and women teams.
All prospective Eastern Sububs players, supporters and sponsors welcome at the clubhouse for a Meet And Greet on Saturday from 2pm for a free sausage sizzle and drinks. Players turning 18 next year are eligible to play senior rugby league or leaguetag.

Don’t forget about the Women’s AGM this Sunday at 1.30. Please come along and show your support for women’s golf at our club and hear what the year ahead might bring.
Our Christmas Party is being held on Wednesday 7th December with 9 holes of golf and lunch on the deck. More details to come. We will also be having a dinner get together on Friday the 9th in conjunction with our shootout calcutta draw. This will be a great chance for those who are unable to make it to our daytime luncheon to come and have a catchup to celebrate our golfing year. The men will be having their calcutta that night too so everyone is welcome. Just let Wendy know as she has booked a table.
That wraps up our week of golf. Good luck to all in the Medal of Medalists for this year.
