laire McKenzie’s daughter, Hana, thanks the Granite Belt community for rallying around her Mum following a horrific accident with a slasher on 24th November in Ballandean, south of Stanthorpe, setting the record straight that her Mum’s arm was not lost. Speaking exclusively to our newspapers, Hana said the arm was “severely damaged but doctors have managed to save it at

this stage and all signs are positive”. At the time of printing, the resolute young woman said Ms McKenzie remains in an induced coma in the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. The 61 year-old has lost the use of both of her legs, and the condition of the arm might be at risk due to infection. “We expect Mum to be brought out of the coma late this week or next week,” Hana told us. “She has undergone multiple surgeries on her legs and arm … (and) all have gone well with no sign of infection at this stage.”

Not only have the Granite Belt community stepped up with donations to be dropped into Gracious Giving in Maryland St, Stanthorpe, a GoFundMe page has been set up for monetary help, Hana saying, “The care and support has been overwhelming.” “We would like to thank the following people,” she said, specifying: “The Ballandean, Stanthorpe and Tenterfield communities for providing assistance wherever needed - we are blown away by their kindness and generosity.
