SMA Pilot Program: “Project Kraken” SMA is full to the brim with knowledgeable and engaging people. We exercise the ever-expanding breadth of our skills every week and every day with our clients. Which is often unnoticed and or not fully understood by them. Because of this our clients may not see the complete picture of how much we do for them, how much we are capable of doing and when it comes to conversations about increasing fees, adding staff, etc. they aren’t primed to say yes easily.

Our company is sometimes misunderstood by our affiliates, our competition and our potential clients as well. It’s difficult to explain what we do and how we do it.

Let’s create a visual, audible and interactive connection between what SMA is capable of and what the story of our capabilities are.

Project Kraken

Kraken Podcast 45-60 minute interviews with SMA staff members, current clients and other partners/leaders within the industry.

The questions/topics in the interview/discussion will be approved by SMA leadership and the guests themselves.

Once recorded, SMA leadership will review, make recommendation edits and then it will be ready for publishing.

Kraken Video Channel Brief videos showcasing content from either the podcast, the publication or the workshops. Quick tutorials on hotel verbiage, design tips, file type overview, the do’s and don’ts of SPAM emails, etc.

Content to be approved by SMA leadership and published once or twice a month.

Kraken Workshops 1.5 - 2 hour workshops held at either the SMA office or another location. Led by SMA staff in topics ranging from “Project Management and Execution”, “Non-Profit Board Governance”, “Intro to Associations”, “Social Media and Strategic Marketing”, “Event Planning and Coordination”, “Creative and Effective Writing” to workshops on teambuilding, leadership and trust-building.

The content of the workshops will be designed by the facilitator, in collaboration with the SMA Workshop Coordinator. Materials will be created, a marketing plan will be developed and SMA Leadership will approve before launch.

The facilitator will make 25% of the registration proceeds from the workshop. The workshops will be open to the public.

Kraken Publication There are some folks at SMA who may prefer to share their knowledge or expertise not in person. Or folks who would like to do both.

A bi-monthly publication featuring staff insights, an article or two on association management topics, maybe a client highlight and what they are up to, with a message from our Partners and a single staff spotlight.

The content will be reviewed by SMA leadership and when approved it will be distributed to a client mailing list as well as published via social media.

Project Kraken

Timeline The official launch should be 2023. In that time we produce 2-3 podcasts and design a couple workshops. They are reviewed by SMA leadership - perhaps the workshops are conducted on a small scale to test them out.

A thorough content calendar and marketing strategy will be developed and executed by Launch.

Everything goes live in January 2023.
