AKA Phi Omega Omega Pearls of Excellence Scholarship Pageant

I am Angel S. Reed, president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Phi Omega Omega Chapter in Manning, SC. Welcome to our annual Pearls of Excellence: Miss Ivy Pearl and Little Miss Ivy Pearl Pageant.

We are so excited to present this year’s pageant as our first virtual production. We are absolutely delighted to have the pleasure of continuing this annual pageant fundraising tradition during these unprecedented times. Our Pearls of Excellence pageant provides cultural, educational, fun and service oriented activities for the beautiful contestants throughout the planning of the pageant.

For over 113 years, the mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has been to promote high ethical standards and unity among women, alleviate issues concerning girls and women to improve our communities, promote educational interest, and be of “Service to All Mankind.”

Founded at Howard University in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the first sorority for African-American women. Currently, Alpha Kappa Alpha is a flourishing global impacted organization with over 300,000 members. Now in existence for over 19 years, Phi Omega Omega continues to uphold the mission of AKA as we strive to expand our programs and offerings to our community. Our international program theme of Exemplify Excellence Through Sustainable Service focuses on the areas of education, health, culture, economics and family strengthening. We wish to thank all parents, grandparents, other family members, friends and the entire community for their support and generosity and helping our contestants to raise money that will provide scholarships for graduating seniors and also provide funding for local charities and community programs.

Laricia Middleton

Laricia Middleton is a native of Camden, South Carolina. She graduated from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor’s in HealthcareAdministration. Laricia is employed at Providence Heart where she works as a Precertification Coordinator. She currently lives in Columbia, South Carolina with her family. Laricia enjoys reading, dancing, taking trips, and spending quality time with her children.

Alfreda Pearson Frazier

Alfreda is a native of Clarendon County. She loves and appreciates fashion at its best as it portrays who you are at heart by colors and styles that are chosen everyday. Alfreda’s experience as an interior designer speaks well of her passion for color and designs. She gave all that up and relocated back to Clarendon County to care for her elderly parents. She is currently an established insurance agent in Clarendon County. She enjoys helping her clients to make informed decisions about their future and their love ones by planning a family legacy. She is nurturing and kind and loves dancing.

Debra Watson Norman

Mrs. Debra Watson Norman is a resident of Orangeburg, South Carolina. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Spelman College, a Master’s degree from South Carolina State University, and a Specialist’s degree from The University of South Carolina.

Professionally, Mrs. Norman has been an educator for over 36 years. She has been a middle school teacher, an elementary guidance counselor, literacy coach and literacy specialist, elementary and high school assistant principal, associate principal, and principal. She has served students in Orangeburg and Clarendon counties. She has also taught courses at South Carolina State University.

Mrs. Norman is a member of several educational organizations: The National EducationAssociation, the South Carolina EducationAssociation, the Orangeburg County EducationAssociation, and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. She is also a member of the Spelman College Alumnae Association and the South Carolina State University Alumni Association.

Mrs. Norman is a 40-year member ofAlpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was initiated at Spelman in 1981. She has been a member of the Orangeburg graduate chapter of AKA for 36 years. She has served the organization in a variety of positions, such as Membership Chairperson, Corresponding Secretary, and President. Additionally she serves on various committees in the chapter: High School Scholarship, Health and Wellness, and HBCU: ACall for Action. She is also a member of the Graduate Advisors Committee. Mrs. Norman is the Cluster VI Educational Advancement Foundation Ambassador.

Mrs. Norman is the proud mother of a daughter, Taylor, who is also a Spelman College graduate and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
