HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR RECOGNITION

CHURCH

WELCOME

FROM THE RECTOR

The Rev. Dr. Christopher D. Girata

Happy Easter! We’re so glad you’ve joined us at Saint Michael today. We’d love to get to know you better, so please take a moment to fill out the welcome card, either physically or digitally, that can be found on this page or in the pew back in front of you. Our Welcome Team members are in the hallways today to help you with anything you need.

Today we celebrate our Saint Michael High School seniors who will begin new adventures next year. Please keep them and their families in your prayers as they end one chapter and look forward to the next. I also encourage you to look through the bulletin and find ways to plug into our community beyond Sunday worship. We have many offerings for all ages that will lift your spirits and help you grow more deeply in your discipleship. In addition to what you’ll find in this bulletin, please visit our website at saintmichael.org for more.

As we prepare to worship together, I invite you to take a moment and center yourself on God’s presence. Worshiping, learning, and giving together help us grow closer to who God created us to be, and you’re part of that work. May God bless you today and every day, and I hope to see you again very soon!

Invitatory (standing)

Officiant O God, make speed to save us.

People O Lord, make haste to help us.

All Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia.

Phos hilaron arr. Justin Brooks

O gracious Light, pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!

Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.

The Psalm (seated)

To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; my God, I put my trust in you; * let me not be humiliated, nor let my enemies triumph over me.

Let none who look to you be put to shame; * let the treacherous be disappointed in their schemes. Show me your ways, O LORD, * and teach me your paths.

Lead me in your truth and teach me, * for you are the God of my salvation; in you have I trusted all the day long.

Remember, O LORD, your compassion and love, * for they are from everlasting.

Psalm 25:1-9

Remember not the sins of my youth and my transgressions; * remember me according to your love and for the sake of your goodness, O LORD. Gracious and upright is the LORD; * therefore he teaches sinners in his way. He guides the humble in doing right * and teaches his way to the lowly. All the paths of the LORD are love and faithfulness * to those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Lector The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

The First Lesson (seated)

Isaiah 43:1-2, 5-7

But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you ; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. ... Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you; I will say to the north, “Give them up,” and to the south, “Do not withhold; bring my sons from far away and my daughters from the end of the earth—every one who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

Lector The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

Hymn

“Come, thou fount of every blessing” Nettleton

Hymn 686

The Second Lesson (seated) 2 Timothy 1:3, 6-14

I am g rateful to God—whom I worship with a clear conscience, as my ancestors did—when I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. ... For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; for God did not g ive us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline. Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God, who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to his own purpose and grace.

This grace was given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. For this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher, and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him. Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.

Lector The Word of the Lord. People Thanks be to God.

The Apostles’ Creed (standing, said by all)

All I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers (standing)

Officiant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Officiant Let us pray.

All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, bur deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Lector Show us your mercy, O Lord; People And grant us your salvation.

Lector Clothe your ministers with righteousness; People Let your people sing with joy.

Lector Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; People For only in you can we live in safety.

Lector Lord, keep this nation under your care; People And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

Lector Let your way be known upon earth; People Your saving health among all nations.

Lector Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten; People Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

Lector Create in us clean hearts, O God; People And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.

The Collects (standing)

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages.
