Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. We hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday, and we are thankful that you are worshiping with us today. During the coming days we will begin Advent, the time during which we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. You are invited to join us for the Advent Quiet Day next Saturday and Advent Lessons and Carols on Sunday. Throughout Advent there are activities to help us prepare for the blessed birth of our savior. “Heart Of Giving” Begins Today - Supports Outreach Ministries. Heart of Giving is a great way to recognize family, friends, or business associates at Christmas. It supports Saint Michael’s Mission and Outreach Ministries: The Good Samaritan Fund, Tela, Honduras Mission trip, Amistad, Bolivia Mission trip, and the Honduras Threads Mission trip. Heart of Giving cards are available to purchase outside the Book Shop and at the South Lanai reception. I Believe in Angels Underway – Adopt an Angel. When you adopt an angel from I Believe in Angels you will help provide Christmas gifts for children and seniors living in the Jubilee Park neighborhood. Your gift needs to be returned to the church by Friday, December 8. Volunteers are needed to help sort gifts on Friday, December 15 and at the family “shopping” day on Saturday, December 16. Saint Michael’s Young Adults (20s & 30s) are going to brunch Sunday, December 3. They meet in the Parlor following the 11:00 worship services and will go together to Blatt Beer and Table at Preston Hollow Village at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway. Meeting of 4th and 5th Grade Parents Set Sunday, December 3. A meeting of parents of 4th and 5th grade students will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, December 3 to discuss changes in our students' confirmation schedule. The Rev. Dr. Eric Liles, Associate for Formation, will outline how changes in the ages at which we confirm students will impact 4th and 5th graders. The meeting will be in the Youth Center. Saint Michael Presents Christmas Concert December 3. “Three Tales of Christmas” by the renowned men’s choral ensemble, Cantus, is the Saint Michael Presents community concert on Sunday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Beloved holiday stories such as A Christmas Carol, The Gift of the Magi,The Night Before Christmas, and others will be reimagined through familiar carols and new holiday classics. The concert is free, but tickets are necessary to assure adequate seating. Get tickets at the South Lanai receptionist or online at saintmichael.org/saintmichaelpresents. November is North Dallas Shared Ministries Month. Fill at least one grocery bag during November and bring it to the South Lanai. Suggested items: macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, tortillas, canned food items, saltine crackers. A more extensive list and grocery bags are available at several locations throughout the church. Financial contributions are just as valuable. Make checks payable to North Dallas Shared Ministries and bring to the South Lanai receptionist.

St. Nick Nite to Usher In Advent Season. Children and parents join us to celebrate St. Nick Nite Wednesday, December 6 in the Saint Michael Chapel at 6:30 p.m. for storytelling and songs. St. Nick will stick around in the chapel after the service for photos. Milk and cookies will be served in the South Lanai. All ages are welcome as we begin the season of Advent. Deadline Next Friday for Youth Alaska Mission Trip. December 1st is the deadline to register for the Youth Alaska Mission Trip this summer. Our 6 – 12 graders will go to Anchorage from July 18 - 25 to work with local agencies serving the homeless and hungry. Our mission trip for 9 – 12 graders to Amistad’s Casa Esperanza in Bolivia will be from June 24 through July 2. The signup deadline for this trip is February 1. Register at saintmichael.org/youth/mission-trips Skate into the Holidays December 3. Saint Michael’s youth (6th – 12th grades) will skate into the Christmas holiday season on Sunday afternoon, December 3, with a skating party at the Galleria Mall from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. Meet at the church at 4:00. We are looking for high school student musicians to be a part of this year’s Nativity Pageant on Sunday, December 17. Specifically, we need students who play flute, oboe, violin, viola, or guitar to accompany our children and youth. It is a great way to contribute your talents and get service hours. Examine this question at Advent Quiet Day, Saturday, December 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the Coke Activities Room. Dr. Jane Patterson from the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin will lead the retreat, “A Blessed and Costly Listening.” Cost $10. Register at saintmichael.org/adventretreat. Advent Lessons and Carols Next Sunday, December 3. Saint Michael’s new choristers of boys and girls will make their first presentation next Sunday when it joins the choir in presenting Advent Lessons and Carols at 11:00 in the church. The beautiful 200 year old English tradition recounts through Scripture and song man’s fall, God’s promise to bring a Messiah, the Incarnation, and God’s command to preach the Gospel throughout the world. It is a beautiful beginning to Advent. Be a Jubilee Book Buddy. Volunteer one-on-one to work with a child at that needs your help to improve their reading skills! Be a Book Buddy at O.M. Roberts Elementary, our Jubilee neighborhood school. You can pick the time and day that best works for you, 30 to 60 minutes once a week. You will make a difference in a child’s life. Nationally acclaimed architect, Max Levy, will discuss the inspiration that led him to create the Saint Michael Courtyard Columbarium at a meeting Sunday, December 3, at 10:00 in the Parlor. The Saint Michael Columbarium was selected as one of Texas’ 10 best architectural designs in 2016 by the Texas Society of Architects. Mission and Outreach Volunteer Opportunities. The 2017 Saint Michael Christmas ornament is very popular this year and the Book Shop’s supply is beginning to get low. Once it’s sold out, there are no more. The ornament, designed by parishioner and choir member Susan Johnson, features three choristers as symbols of Saint Michael’s emerging music programs. And, the Book Shop also has a great selection of calendars, books, and candles available.

Royal Chef Shares Secrets at Exchange Book Signing. Darren McGrady, personal chef to the Queen and Princess Diana, will share his secrets for making “palace-worthy” meals for your friends and family Wednesday, November 29 at St. Michael’s Woman’s Exchange in Highland Park Village. Chef McGrady will sign his new cookbook, The Royal Chef at Home: Easy Season Entertaining, from 2:00 – 4:00. Focusing on holiday festivities his book features Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, and other special occasions. Advent Meditation Book Available. The Advent Meditation Book, written by clergy, parishioners, and staff members is available a several locations throughout the church. The meditations will be available online (saintmichael.org) beginning with Advent, next Sunday.
