The Women of Saint Michael meet Wednesday, Thursday is the Good Shepherd Annual Meeting followed by an evening Confirmation listening session, and Jubilee’s National Night Out is Friday evening. Nativity Pageant Tryouts Begin This Afternoon. Tryouts for the nativity pageant begin this afternoon for 3rd-8th graders from 12:30-2:30. Another session will be next Sunday, October 15. Children ages 3 – 2nd grade will be stars, animals, shepherds, and angels. They will be assigned roles according to age/grade. Every child will have a part as we retell one of the greatest stories of our faith. To sign up for a tryout time or to register younger children go to saintmichael.org/nativity Compline at Canterbury House Tonight – Join Us. Saint Michael and All Angels celebrates a weekly Compline service at Canterbury House at SMU Sunday evenings at 8:00 p.m. The service is led by Fr. Rich Towers, Associate for Student Ministry at SMU. Compline is the last church service of the day, providing an opportunity to quiet our minds and ask God for a peaceful rest. Join us and support Saint Michael’s new ministry at SMU. The Canterbury House is located at 3308 Daniel, just east of Hillcrest.

Collecting For Hurricane Harvey Families. Saint Michael and All Angels is collecting personal hygiene kits and school supplies for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Working with the Diocese of Texas, we are responding to the needs of children in three Houston elementary schools whose families have lost their income and have provided shelter for other families. A list of the needed items is at several locations throughout the church and online at saintmichael.org. Drop your donations in the Mission and Outreach receptacles in the North and South Lanais.

National Night Out at Jubilee Park Rescheduled to October 13. Because of last week’s rain, Jubilee Park’s National Night Out has been rescheduled for Friday, October 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. National Night Out is a program promoting police-community partnerships.We need help with Registration, Concessions, the Kids’ Zone, and helping with setup and clean up. This is a FANTASTIC event for the whole family.

High school students can get volunteer hours toward their school requirements. To volunteer, contact Ovidia Amaya at oamaya@jubileecenter.org.

Rector’s Bible Study Wednesdays: Available Online. Because of the popularity of the new Wednesday Rector’s Bible Study, it has been moved to the Saint Michael Chapel and will begin at 10:30 a.m. The Bible Study is examining the Gospel According to Luke. Faith and Grief Luncheon Thursday This Week. The Faith and Grief Luncheon meets on Thursday, October 12, at 12:00 Noon in the Coke Activities Room. Our speaker will be Jean Jones. Please join us as we share our journeys of faith and grief over a meal together.

Mary Lessmann Speaking at Prayer Ministry Meeting. The Prayer Ministry will feature The Rev. Mary Lessmann at its meeting Thursday, October 19 in the Coke Activities Room.

She will discuss “How are Prayers and Spiritual Growth Related?” at the meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. A light dinner ($10) will be available. All are invited and urged to attend.

Confirmation Listening Session Thursday Evening. A Listening Session to consider recommendations to change the ages at which we confirm young students from 6th grade to 8th grade will be Thursday evening at 6:00 in the Youth Center. Children’s Choir Program Schedules Rehearsal. Organization of a new children’s choir program received a tremendous response, and beginning Wednesday, October 11, we will begin offering rehearsal and dinner for choristers grades 3-8 from 6:00 – 7:30! This new group will prepare special music for our Advent and Christmas season. The children will be assigned a choir robe and have an opportunity to earn points of distinction while receiving vocal instruction, learning music skills, and making new friends. Gray Malin, Dallas native and New York Times bestselling author, will be at The Exchange Friday, October 13 to sign his latest book, Escape. Malin’s work includes images from 22 destinations across 11 countries. He will be at the Exchange in Highland Park Village from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Faith and Medicine Discussed at Pastoral Care Gathering October 18. Dr. Robert Fine, director of Clinical Ethics and Palliative Care at Baylor Scott and White in Dallas, will explore faith, human spirituality, and life’s meaning at a special Pastoral Care gathering on Wednesday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. There is no fee and all are invited.

Difficult Parents Author To Address Open Stephen Ministry Session. Dr. Paul Chafetz, author of Loving Hard-to-Love Parents, will address an open Stephen Ministry meeting on Monday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Coke Activities Room. Dr. Chafetz provides the tools to: emotionally cope, love hard-to-love relatives, and leave a legacy for children. The meeting sponsored by Pastoral Care and the Senior Source is open to all.

Blood Drive Set for October 29. The fall blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross is scheduled for Sunday, October 29. It will be held in the ESD Library from 8:00 – 1:00 p.m. Go to saintmichael.org to register for a time to donate blood. Look for the blue box in the upper right of the page and type sponsor code: saintmichael. Students at least 16 years of age are eligible to give!

PT Cruisers to Do Time at the Zoo. PT Cruisers-channel your inner "Doctor Doolittle" as we travel to the Dallas Zoo to visit our new friends! The bus leaves the church at 9:30 on Thursday, October 19th. Cost for the tour and lunch is $25. Trams will be provided while at the zoo.
