Douglas Travis Called as Interim Rector. The Vestry has called the Very Rev. Douglas Travis as Interim Rector, beginning his ministry with us on September 28. For six years, he served as President and Dean of the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, and currently is Canon Theologian for the Diocese of the Rio Grande. It is important that everyone take the Parish Survey which will help guide the Rector Search and Transition Committee in identifying Saint Michael’s next Rector. The survey, which runs through September 20, is available online at www.saintmichael.org/ survey. Hardcopies are available from the receptionist in the South Lanai. The 10th annual Backpack 4 Kids fundraiser continues throughout the month of September, which is National Hunger Awareness Month. As 1 in 3 children in Dallas Public Schools qualify for the weekend backpack the need is critical. Volunteers will be at a table outside the Book Shop. Donations in any amount help - $5 a week, $20 a month, $200 for the 40 week school year or $260 for an entire year. Checks, cash, and credit cards are accepted. Come visit the St. Mary’s Guild Table in the South Lanai! The “Goodies” are back. The St. Mary’s Guild cakes and cookies are available every Sunday in the South Lanai. The Feast of Saint Michael The Feast of Saint Michael on September 27 will be a special day. The 9:00 and 11:00 church services combined at 10:00. We will celebrate the church’s 70 Anniversary by honoring our 7th Decade parishioners. A list of those people, retrieved from our records, was published in the September Archangel. If you’ve been at Saint Michael 60 years or more and your name is not on the list, let us know. Contact Sandra Cox at scox@ saintmichael.org. We will also celebrate the ministry of Valerie and Bob Dannals with gifts, goodbyes, and a great reception.
