Welcome to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. This week we begin the 46 days (including Sundays) of Lent. Upcoming Lent activities are included in this edition of Sunday News, and a complete list can be found online and in the February Archangel. We are honored that you are worshiping with us today and encourage you to do so often during this sacred season, and throughout the entire year. Five Ash Wednesday Services Scheduled. Lent begins Ash Wednesday, February 10 with imposition of ashes at five worship services. Services in the church will be at 6:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 12:00 Noon, and 6:00 p.m. A service for families and children will be at 5:00 p.m. in the Saint Michael Chapel. Get an Ash Wednesday/Lent Lesson. Ever wondered what Lent means? Why ashes? Find out Wednesday evening at 5:30 in the Parlor, just before the 6:00 Ash Wednesday worship service. The Rev. Bob Johnston will give a brief history of Lent and walk us through the service. It’s a great tutorial for anyone new to the Episcopal Tradition, or who just wants to know. All are welcome! Lent Meditation Booklet Available. The Daily Lent Meditation booklet is available at locations throughout the church. The meditations are written by Saint Michael clergy and parishioners. The mediations will also be available online at www.saintmichael.org beginning Wednesday. Annual Meeting February 28, 10:00 in the Church. The primary business at the Annual Parish Meeting will be the election of new Vestry members, Diocesan Convention delegates, and Foundation Trustees. Those proposed for election are: Vestry Nominees: Whitney Grogan, Elizabeth L. Selzer, Arnold Spencer, Matthew Waller, Chris Wiley. Diocesan Convention Delegates: Liz Oliphant, Sallie Plummer, Darrel Rice; Alternates: 1. Susie Ryan, 2. Richard Frazar, 3. John Glass. Foundation Trustees: Peggy Carr, Dare Gillette, David Martin, and Stewart Thomas. There will be reports from Senior Warden Matthew Waller, Treasurer Grady Schleier, and Rector Search and Transition Team co-chairs Diana Newton and Van Sheets. The 11:00 Rite I worship service will be held in the Saint Michael Chapel, and children will get a Vacation Bible School preview in the Youth Center.

Stewardship Update: We are extremely grateful for the many parishioners who stepped up to the challenge to bridge our $600,000 stewardship shortfall and increased their pledge. While we did not completely erase the deficit, we did make substantial progress and we will be working with staff to appropriately adjust our 2016 budget. We are so thankful for the generosity of Saint Michael’s parishioners. You are all a great blessing. Matthew Waller, Senior Warden
