Design Project 1 Andare 2D Graphical Representation

PROJECT SUMMARY This project is about analysing and understanding a character arrieving at a concept and representing it through design. And we got the character as Andare, the court jester of medieval Sri Lanka. As the first part of the project we had to designing and producing a 2D Representative Graphic ( wall plaque ) based on our representation of the character of Andare.

I found out information on the character of Andare and explore his background and the associated stories in history and folklore as the initial activity. Based on the information understood, analysed l wanted to create a meaningful graphical representation and express the idea to the viewer effectively. To create my wall paque I used animals characteristic features to represent the characteristic features of the Andare and also I researched on Kandiyan Period art styles and added some features to represent the era that Andare lived..

Using different visual elements as lines, shapes, motifs, colours, textures depths and materials, I could create successful final design output wall plaque.

Design Project 1 Andare 3D Object Representation

PROJECT SUMMARY

This project is about analysing and understanding a character, arriving at a concept and representating it through design. And we got the character as Andare, the court jester of medieval Sri Lanka. As the second part of the project we had to designing and producing a 3D Representative Object based on the inspiration gained through the study of Andare and associate stories in the folklore.

Using the same inspiration and concept in the first part of the project, we had to do another design which is a 3D object that would express the interpretation of the character Andare and it should be function as a 3D ornamental object which can be easily place on a shelf, table or desk.

My design of the project is a Kandian Period jwellary box that decorated with the animal characteristics that match with Anadre’ characteristics and Kandian Period art styles to represent the that Andare lived. Using relevent materials to express in lines, shapes, motifs, colours, textures, depths, I could create successful final design output 3D object.

Design Project 2 Bedroom Redesign

PROJECT SUMMARY

This is the first project that we had gain knowledge about what areanthropometrics and ergonomics.. In this project we had to redesign our existing bedroom acording to our personal preferences. Before creting the design, first we had to identity ‘ Who am I? ‘.

In my project, first I had listed my own characteristics, behavioral patterns and likes and dislikes. And after that I came up with the concept of ' Cottage Life in a Rain Forest ‘ and it could provide my main requirements like peacefulness, shade, cool, sound of water and birds and different varieties of plants and flowers everywhere in my bedroom. According to my concept and requirements, I had to do some changes in my bedroom and my main change of the bedroom was connecting the common bathroom near my bedroom and made it personal for me. I also redesigned my furnitures for my comfort and suite with my concept.

At last I successfully redesigned my existing bedroom into cottage which feels me relax and comfort.

Design Project 3 Portable Camping Kitchen PROJECT SUMMARY

This project is about designing a portable camping kitchen which enable to prepare a meal for two persons for one night camping at a remote area, who are camping partners. And I’m the person who responsible of cooking one meal for both of us and I have to carry the portable camping kitchen by myself. Providing water and shelter are responsibles of my camping partner.

In my project first I researched on food preparation methods and requirements related to camping night as well as the maximum weight that I can carry comfortably according to my weight And then I calculated the quantities of ingredients want to eat both of us. After that I calculated the weight of the utensils that want to prepare, serve and eat the meal ( get the light weight utensils such as bamboo plates, cups etc). Further, I considering about the wind and the lighting wants when preparing and eating because it is a camping night.

Using waterproof materials and comfortable size ,shape, textures and weight designed my portable camping kitchen backpack. I selected cama green and black colour as the colour of the backpack which doesn’t disturb to the animals in the jungle. Finally I could design a comfortable portable camping kitchen with all important requirements and successfully finished my task.

Design Project 3 Artist Studio PROJECT SUMMARY

In this project the we are expected to design a small free – standing building which is a studio bedsitter for a creative artist at a selected site. And the building only be allowed a covered floor area of 50sqm.

Objective of this design project is to understand the user and design for a specific user, providing architecture that would reflect his/her character while facilitating the best atmosphere and rwquired space to perform the art form.

The artist that I selected for my project is a musician and the site is in Malambe. I made an appointment with my client and discussed about their requirements, preferences, nature of activities he want to do in studio. After analysing his character and working habits I came up with the concept of ‘ Poem of the Night Sky ‘ and designed the Music Studio with Bedsitter which architecturally be like express in terms of its form and its special experience and qualities to represent my cliient and to provide the best atmosphere for the musical activities.

Design Project 4 Personalized House

PROJECT SUMMARY

In this project, we are axpected to design a personalized house which can become a home for a selected family at a given specific site. The maximum size of the house of the design should not exceed 300sqm in area and the house should be a single unit with maximum 3 bedrooms . Further, we are also expected to visit the assigned site as a group and understand the site conditions in terms of its setting, topography and nature.

Client of the project is an artitect and the site locate near the Thalangama Lake. First I visited and studied the site – its context, topography, vegetation and other interesting features and did a SWOT ANALYSIS about the site. After, I made an appointment with my client and discuss with his about his requirements, preferences and the way he conduct his daily routines and family activities. And then derived a design brief based on the discussion with my client and work out the key spaces and connections based on that.

Considering the needs and desires of the client and his family members, I entered into my design with the concept of Comforting Light. With applying the anthropometric standards and ergonomic design principles for space planning, I organized the spaces of the house to accomodate the basic needs of all the family members of the house and giving priority to their interaction and cohesion as a family. Further, I practically applied the knowledge gain regarding climatic conditions, social interaction and construction technologies to complete my project successfully.
