They were in love, and shared a dream of creating something lasting. Together, they built a life shaped by love, determination and a passion for craftsmanship. Something genuine. Something enduring.

Every piece of furniture is still crafted with the same care, the same attention to detail, and the same respect for craftsmanship and materials. Seventy-five years on, we continue to challenge ourselves, evolving, and creating furniture designed for the future.

BEHIND THE SCENES

THE ART OF CREATING A HOME A home is not created by furniture alone. It is created by people with the experience and expertise to bring together space, materials and light in perfect harmony. For 75 years, Slettvoll has cultivated a deep understanding of how homes are shaped. The setting for this project is a classic Haussmann apartment in Paris – a meeting of continental elegance and Nordic simplicity. In just one day, its empty rooms were transformed into a home. Every room contains hundreds of carefully considered decisions. Which materials bring warmth? Which proportions create balance? Which furniture gives the space character and soul while complementing the existing architecture? To add the final layer of authenticity, we borrowed personal belongings from friends in Paris - small details that turn a room into a home. Welcome.

Une journée à Paris An empty apartment in the heart of Paris. Filled with life and love in just one day. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team from Slettvoll worked alongside a director, photographers and film crew – with the care and attention to detail that defines us. Room by room, the apartment came to life. One day, one goal: create a home with character and soul, to sit in the heart of the city of love.

Here, skilled craftsmen work with pride, precision and a deep respect for their craft. OUR STORY

75 Years Shaped by Love

Stranda 1951

New 199O ADirection

Hans Slettvoll Basket Workshop Hans Slettvoll founded his own business together with his wife, Bergit, in their home in the village of Stranda on Norway’s north-west coast. The family expanded that year when Torill was born, and Anne-Lise became a big sister.

The ﬁrst products were shopping baskets, magazine baskets and wicker doll’s prams. Work and family life existed under one roof, with production, storage and the sewing workshop on the ground ﬂoor, while the family lived upstairs.

1970

In 1990, Slettvoll entered into a partnership with the furniture manufacturer Nye Hole & Lillebøe in Sykkylven. The collection was expanded to include high-quality upholstered furniture.

The Model 65, introduced in 1959, became an outstanding commercial success and remained in production until 1988. Designed by Hans Slettvoll.

During the 1960s, the ﬁrst factory in Dalevegen was built as production expanded from smaller goods to furniture. The new venture required more space, and 27 employees on the payroll.

Between 1967 and 1970, production at Slettvoll’s rattan furniture factory doubled. Increased imports of rattan from Indonesia created a need for larger storage facilities, leading to the construction of a new factory at Ødegård in Stranda.

Torill, daughter of Hans and Bergit, took over the company in 1984. She expanded the collection to include upholstered furniture and introduced a softer, more reﬁned aesthetic through beautiful textiles and creative interior styling.

The First Store

In 1999, Slettvoll opened the ﬁrst of its own stores in a converted barn at Kolsås, just outside Oslo. This marked the beginning of investment in dedicated furniture and interior stores.

2004

A Bold New Chapter In 2004, Slettvoll made the bold decision to focus entirely on its own stores. At the same time, the company began a design collaboration with Helene Forbes Hennie, introducing a more continental aesthetic to the collection.

Norwegian Design and Brand Builder of the Year In 2014, Slettvoll received the industry award Norwegian Design and Brand Builder of the Year in recognition of its long-term commitment to brand building and Norwegian design.

In 2024, Slettvoll Copenhagen was named Design Universe of the Year in Denmark’s Design Favoritter awards.

2024

In 2024, Slettvoll opened its ﬁrst showrooms outside Scandinavia, in Palma and Marbella, marking a key step in its international expansion.

Palma & Marbella

1998 During the 1980s, Slettvoll began collaborating with manufacturers in Asia. By 1998, all rattan production had been moved there. The partnership later expanded to include outdoor furniture, while all upholstered furniture continues to be produced in Stranda.

In 2008, Slettvoll opened its ﬁrst store in Stockholm, in the midst of the global ﬁnancial crisis. Despite a slow start, the venture proved highly successful, and today Slettvoll also has stores in Gothenburg and Malmö.

In October 2019, Slettvoll opened its ﬁrst Danish store at the prestigious Oslo Plads in Copenhagen. The store is located in Glacispalæet, a landmark building dating back to the early twentieth century.

What began as a small basement workshop has become an important part of Norwegian furniture history. Every upholstered piece is still crafted in Stranda. Slettvoll remains a family-owned company, with Live Slettvoll representing the third generation leading the business into the future.

1. It all begins with a no-obligation conversation where we get to know you and your needs. Do you need a new sofa? Are you refreshing one room, or perhaps an entire home? Feel free to bring photos, drawings, and measurements to share with us. 2. After learning more about you and your project, we sketch the furniture placement, suggest a colour palette, and choose complementary materials. 3. Once we have agreed on a furnishing solution you are happy with, the furniture is put into production by our craftsmen. We then deliver in the way you prefer and assemble the furniture for you if needed.
