Dear Residents,
Spring is in the air and we are busy with the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the Clubhouse and our grounds. Nelson Landscaping, our new golf course maintenance company, has started and the course is starting to look much better.
The outdoor patio area has been refreshed with new seat cushions and a new flooring treatment over the old “chattahoochee” surface. It looks much better and is more comfortable to walk on. In the Clubhouse lobby, we’re working to update the lighting and feel of the gathering space. We hope Residents will enjoy the new look!
Other projects include enhancing the landscaping around our main Clubhouse entrance as well as around our Golf Maintenance Shed. New sod and fresh plantings will help the curb appeal of both areas. The outdoor picnic table area should be refreshed by the printing of this issue and we know Residents will appreciate the refurbished environment.

We are very excited to share that significant changes are currently underway within both the Rec District and the Rec Association. As you may have noticed, some of the improvements are already visible, such as the landscaping at the golf course, the upgrades at the clubhouse, and the garage area by Satellite 2. These enhancements reflect our commitment to making our community an even better place to live and enjoyable recreational activities.
In addition, we want to remind everyone that there will be a change in our accounting firm, effective April 1st. While we are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition, there may be a few hiccups along the way. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this process.
Rest assured, our team is dedicated to making these changes as seamless as possible, and we appreciate your continued support. Thank you for being a vital part of our community!
April Showers
The term “April showers” and the popular proverb “April showers bring May flowers” primarily trace their origins to 16th-century English literature, specifically the works of poet and farmer Thomas Tusser. However, the concept of April’s rains nourishing spring growth was famously recorded as early as the 14th century by Geoffrey Chaucer in the prologue to The Canterbury Tales
Literary Origins
The specific phrasing used today evolved from early poetic descriptions of the English agricultural cycle. Thomas Tusser (1557), in his instructional poem, A Hundred Good Points of Husbandry, Tusser wrote: “Sweet April showers do spring May flowers.” This is widely considered the first recorded use of the modern rhyme.
Geoffrey Chaucer (c. 1387), more than a century earlier, opened the General Prologue of The Canterbury Tales with: “Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote / The droghte of March hath perced to the roote.” This roughly translates to “When April with its sweet showers has pierced the drought of March to the root,” setting the stage for flowers to grow. Over time, the phrase was shortened and modified. By 1886, a longer version was recorded: “March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers.”
Scientific and Regional Context
The saying originated in the United Kingdom, where April is traditionally a soggy month due to the position of the jet stream.
Meteorological Cause: In early spring, the jet stream moves northwards, steering storm systems that bring frequent, scattered rain showers.
Botanical Impact: These showers replenish soil moisture and provide nutrients like nitrogen, which are essential for plants awakening from winter dormancy.
Regional Accuracy: While true for the UK, the U.S. Northeast, and the Midwest, the saying is less applicable in areas like California or the Southwest, where April is relatively dry and flowers often rely on winter rains.

Five Healthy Aging Tips For Women
These quick tips can help keep you happy and healthy as you juggle your everyday responsibilities.
1. Get breast cancer screenings every 1 – 2 years
One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and this risk increases with age. Mammograms are the best way to screen for breast cancer, especially during the early stages. The good news is that breast cancer can usually be treated successfully when found early. Medicare covers a free yearly mammogram screening. Learn more about how to prepare and what to expect during the exam.
2. Routine pap exams to detect cervical cancer
Known as the “silent killer,” cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer for American women, but thanks to widespread use of the Pap test, early detection has significantly improved and boosted U.S. survival rates. Cervical cancer may not have any signs or symptoms, so it’s recommended women ages 21 to 65 get routine test about every three years. Medicare covers cervical and vaginal cancer screenings once every 24 months or every 12 months if you are at high risk.
3. Exercise will improve your overall health
Roughly 150 minutes (2.5 hours) of moderate exercise a week could improve not only your physical but also mental health. Being active helps improve moods and reduce feelings of depression. It can also help manage diabetes, heart disease, and osteoporosis.
4. Focus on your mental health
Approximately 15% of adults 60 and over suffer from a mental illness, depression being one of the most common. There’s confusion around what exactly depression is, especially since many older adults experience major changes like the death of loved ones or medical problems, causing sadness. The difference is that the feeling is only temporary. If your feelings of sadness begin to interfere with daily life and normal functioning, you may be experiencing depression. Speak with your doctor about a Medicare depression screening.
5. Healthy eating can prevent serious health conditions
Proper nutrition is essential for the body. As you get older you lose muscle mass, bone density, and burn fewer calories. It takes extra effort to make up for the natural changes of your body which is why eating high nutrient foods make a big difference. Decreased bone density can result in one of the major health concerns affecting about 8 million women, osteoporosis, due to calcium deficiencies in diet.
