WELCOME Hello and welcome to the new issue of Skyline! Winter is finally here, and at Skypark HQ we've been busy preparing our business campus for the Yuletide season. Our massive Christmas tree at reception is up and decorated, and we're looking forward to Skypark's annual Christmas market on Thursday 4th December. It should be an unmissable get-together of tenants and Skypark friends, and we hope everyone makes the most of the seasonal food and drink, gift stalls and musical performances on offer.

Clyde Space Soars In... Skypark would like to give Clyde Space an astronomically friendly welcome, as the ground-breaking producer of micro-satellites makes the campus its new base. The new 10,000 sq. ft. headquarters of Clyde Space, who created Scotland’s first ever satellite UKube-1, will have almost three times the office and workshop space of its former base at the West of Scotland Science Park in Maryhill. The small spacecraft systems manufacturer hopes to move its 34 staff into Scotland’s biggest business campus by the end of the year, once their space in Skypark 5 is ready to launch. Craig Clark, CEO of Clyde Space, said: “We’re very excited to be moving to Skypark, as our new facilities will support the growth of both our business and our capabilities. UKube-1 was just the first of many satellites; we hope to help make Glasgow as famous for building spacecraft as it once was for shipbuilding.” On 8 July this year, Scotland’s first ever satellite UKube-1, designed and manufactured by Clyde Space, was launched aboard a Russian Soyuz-2 rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. The nanosatellite, one of the most advanced of its kind and roughly the size of a shoe-box, will fly educational packages, trial new technologies and undertake space research on a year-long mission. The most important factor for us in our working environment is community; the hardest thing in self-employment is often working alone. We found ourselves quite isolated in our other offices and have always wanted that co-working, community office to not only support each other but also build business relationships. How has the move been for you? It has been easy and seamless with no real disruption to our work – it’s a very welcoming and friendly environment. What do you hope to achieve by being here? We hope to use the energy and atmosphere here to grow our business and take it to to the next level, as well as make friends and even collaborate on projects. What projects are you currently working on? The Freedom One Wheelchair is our main and most timeconsuming project, a more durable, responsive and faster wheelchair to suit adults with a fully active lifestyle. LAND ENGINEERING BUILDS NEW FOUNDATIONS AT SKYPARK WE would like to give a warm welcome to Land Engineering as the company becomes a tenant of Scotland’s biggest business campus. To give us a bit of background to the business, Senior Change Manager David Pauling spoke to Skyline to talk about the move: What does Land Engineering do? Land Engineering is a leading provider in design, development and implementation of hard and soft landscaping, civil engineering, stonework restoration, new build cladding, grounds maintenance and winter services. As a specialist environmental engineering company we provide a range of groundwork and civil engineering services, from ground stabilisation, earthworks and drainage, through to retaining walls. With one of the largest stone masonry resources in the country, our specialists have restored many of Scotland’s listed and historic buildings, as well as providing a range of cladding solutions for refurbished and new buildings. When was the company established? We began in 1980. Having grown from only three employees in a small temporary office, the company
now employs 420 staff and has offices in Fenwick, which is our Head Office, Ingliston and now Skypark. We also have a permanent site presence at Ineos in Grangemouth and temporary site offices all over Scotland. How many employees will be based at Skypark? There will be up to 10 permanent members, plus 10 or more hot deskers. We will also have site-based staff that will be using Skypark as a central location to host project meetings. When did you join Skypark? We’ve been here since September. Why move to Skypark? Flexibility, immediate availability, central city centre location with strong road links, good locale, staff benefits, improved technology links for better electronic communication, building amenities, plus lots of other reasons! SCOTWOOD INTERIORS COMPLETE SP1 FACE-LIFT Over the past three months Skypark’s lifts, lobbies and stairwells have been totally revamped, thanks to Scotwood Interiors. Skypark 1’s ten floors have had a makeover, with new MF feature ceilings, Barisol ceiling panels, colourful bespoke wall panels at lift entrances and new illuminated signs for each level all put in by the talented Scotwood crew. When you add up all the stylish new Wenge doors, updated lighting and flooring, plus new fitted screens to stairwells and entrance doors to all suites, the result is Skypark 1 has never looked better! Scotwood, a Glasgow-based company, is celebrating its 50th year in business. Jim Scott, Joint Managing Director at Scotwood, said: “While this was a long running commission, our aim was to give the lobbies a bright, bold and quality finish that creates a pleasant environment for all the workers using it. Charity Finds its Feet at Skypark

Finding Your Feet has taken up space in Skypark 1! Read on to find out more about the charity’s story and their fundraising projects, including funky Christmas cards and a star-studded calendar:
Finding Your Feet has produced a 2015 Annual Calendar featuring the best handprints, and will be selling these along with some funky charity Christmas cards at the Skypark Christmas Fair on Thursday 4 December.
Finding Your Feet was set up by friends and family of Renfrewshire mum, Corinne Hutton, who tragically had her hands and feet amputated after contracting septicaemia in June 2013. The charity aims to support those facing life-changing trauma as a result of illness or injury. Its ethos lies in the network it has created and the opportunities, guidance and assistance that network can provide to lend a hand to those who need help finding their feet in life.
Proceeds from the sales of cards and calendars will go directly towards supporting those who have suffered life-changing trauma. In particular, much of the money raised will go towards funding a Christmas party for young people currently receiving treatment at the Southern General’s WestMARC unit, the national prosthetic centre providing specialist treatment to those who have lost limbs. Corinne was herself a patient at WestMARC following her illness.
The charity has already attracted support from a host of A-listers including Mel Gibson, Gerard Butler, Vinnie Jones, Andy Murray, Robert Carlyle and Jason Donavan, all of whom have donated their signed handprints to raise awareness, and ultimately money, for the cause.

Inspired by the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, participants attended sessions in which they debated and outlined the principles of customer service. Danny Harkness of Palmaris Services commented: “Our Head of Security David Hardy led the WorldHost Training workshops, which helped introduce ideas to newer Skypark recruits and was also a refresher for the more experienced members of the team. The workshops focussed on the needs of the visitors and clients, and ensured that Skypark continues to deliver five-star customer service.”

Take one cup of Elaine C Smith, add a spoonful of Nick Nairn, a sprinkle of Skyparkers and hey presto, we’ve created a recipe book for our much loved charity, Cash for Kids. ‘A Recipe for Success Cookbook’, is our next big thing in fundraising and we’ve asked celebrity chefs and Skyparkers to spill the beans and share their special recipes for success. Success can mean different things to different people, such as making something for under a fiver, or feeding a family of 5, or making a breakfast that will get you through the day, even success in wooing your date, or looking great! With delicious dishes on the table from actress Elaine C Smith and celebrity chefs Nick Nairn and John Quigley, as well as Radio Clyde’s George Bowie we’re getting ready to launch the cookbook before Christmas - a fantastic gift for just £10 that will go a long way to support children and families in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Susan Altenburg of Cash for Kids said “Thank you for purchasing this recipe book from Skypark - your contribution will ensure that we are able to make a difference to vulnerable children living in your local community.
“Cash for Kids is Scotland’s longest running broadcast children’s charity who have been supporting children who face unimaginable challenges in their day to day lives for over 30 years. “One in 6 children will go to bed hungry tonight with 1 in 5 going without the basic essentials such as food, heat, a bed or warm clothing. Our role is a critical one. We work hard at tackling child poverty and neglect and each year we raise millions of pounds for disabled and disadvantaged local children. But funds are desperately needed all year round to help the ever-growing demand from thousands of vulnerable children and our current income isn’t enough. DRUMCHAPEL CHILDREN’S RIGHTS PROJECT, GLASGOW
The Drumchapel Children’s Rights Project (CRP) is supported by funding from Cash for Kids and illustrates how it gives vital support in turning the lives around of vulnerable children and young people. The Project exists to offer independent advocacy to children and young people aged between 5 and 18 in the West of Glasgow. It is the only service of its kind in the West of Scotland and was set up in response to an identified need. The adult advocacy service found that more and more, the issues affecting the referred adults were also having an impact on the children and young people within the family. The project receives referrals from a variety of sources including social work services, children’s reporter, schools, health services and parents. The children and young people the project assists present numerous issues and disadvantages, examples being abuse, addictions, school exclusions, behavioural issues, learning difficulties, problems at home, homelessness and many others. The effect this has presents in many ways, depression, suicide, eating/weight disorders, unplanned pregnancies, absence from school, addictions and homelessness. In the majority of cases, the impact the project has a lasting and often life changing effect. One of the most effective ways of relating the impact the project has on the lives of vulnerable children and young people is by sharing their stories. The following case study is just one example of the work the group undertakes: “Molly was referred to the Project by Social Work Services with issues around bullying at school. After meeting with seven year old Molly several times and speaking to the
teacher and Deputy Head of her school, it was discovered that Molly was not being bullied but instead was being instructed by her mum to say she was, to ultimately draw attention away from Molly’s home life. Molly’s advocate worked with her for many months, supporting her, building her confidence and speaking on her behalf at the various social work meetings and children panel hearings which took place. Molly is now being cared for by foster parents and everyone in her life, from the social workers to the school teachers agree that she is happier, healthier and more confident.” “Due to the work we were doing with Molly, Social Work Services referred her brother, Mark to the Project. At just five years old, Mark was displaying extremely challenging behaviour at school, was placed on a part time timetable and had a terrible absence record. Like Molly, Mark was assigned an advocate who worked intensively with him for many months. Mark pushed every limit and boundary during this time, exhibiting worrying behaviours and attitudes that were a challenge to every professional working with him. He did however form a trust in his advocate who was able to voice his opinions, experiences and needs to the people making decisions about his life. Mark is now with foster carers and has settled well. His challenging behaviour has calmed and he has 100% attendance at school, which report a completely different wee boy in their classrooms. Mark is safer, healthier and able to enjoy activities within a secure home.”

Foodbank Appeal with Fleet Alliance Fleet Alliance have supplied a new Citroen Berlingo van to Maryhill Foodbank, for 3 years which will allow them to continue their amazing work in delivering meals and supplies to under-privileged families in the North of Glasgow. In continued support of them, Fleet Alliance are having a Christmas collection for donations and would love everyone at Skypark to get involved. SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS PRESENT APPEAL DROPS INTO SKYPARK Skypark will be welcoming and handing over space to the Salvation Army in December, as the organisation plans to give presents to those who need them most this Christmas. Five volunteers from the Salvation Army will spend two days wrapping the gifts on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th December in space donated by Skypark. The presents will be given out to families who have struggled financially this year, as well as to residents at the Salvation Army’s three ‘Lifehouse’ homeless hostels in Glasgow. Matt Butler, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army in Glasgow, said: ‘The Salvation Army believes that Christmas should be a time of celebration and family. For many, Christmas can become a burden upon finances and the family as a whole. Some families can get themselves into debt to meet the demands of Christmas whilst others simply resign themselves to the fact that they are not able to provide for their family at Christmas. Through the present appeal, we can do all we can to ensure that children within our community receive gifts at Christmas, and the stress upon the family is reduced.’ We look forward to having them on-site and supporting this wonderful Christmas cause. HML GUNGE THE MANAGER! HML staff volunteered to take the calls for this years Children in Need live event on Friday 14th November. They also arranged lots of fundraising throughout the week - they brought Pudsey around Skypark for everyone to get a hug for a donation! The managers were good sports and braved a gunging - all for a fantastic cause! They raised a whopping £800 throughout the week! Well done HML!
A dedicated team from Fleet Alliance held a bake sale in Skypark on 17 September in aid of Leukemia & Lymphoma Research, raising £342.53 which will be a great help to blood cancer patients all over the UK. One of the treats on sale was this stunning basket of flowers cake by Rachel McMahon of Lloyds Shipping. Made out of marzipan and chocolate with a toffeeflavoured basket weave, everyone was surprised to find out that the flowers weren’t real! Well done to all involved.
HELP OUT WITH ‘CHRISTMAS IN ANDERSTON’ AT SKYPARK! Skypark is once again helping out the local community this festive season by wrapping presents for ‘Christmas in Anderston’ – and if you’ve a few minutes to spare on Tuesday 2nd December, we’d love your help! Now in its 8th year, ‘Christmas in Anderston’ is an annual celebration of the community coming together, including families, businesses, public services and schools, to give the children of Anderston a very merry Christmas party. Every year Skypark donates hundreds of presents to the kids, some of which won’t have much at Christmas – and this requires a lot of wrapping! On Tuesday 2nd December in the meeting room on the groundfloor of Skypark 1, all day we will be wrapping over 300 presents and we would love some help if you have a spare ten minutes (or more!). Mince pies and hot drinks will be supplied to volunteers! ‘Christmas in Anderston’ is also looking for volunteers to be Santa’s Little Helpers on the day of the event itself! They would be helping out with the organisation of the day and making sure the kids have as much fun as possible. The event takes place at location on date and volunteers would be needed from 3-7pm – any time you could donate would be greatly appreciated by the team and the children.
