WELCOME Hello and welcome to the new issue of Skyline! As the summer beckons and the sun starts to shine, we've got a lot lined up to entertain tenants over the next few months, not least our annual summer event on Friday 13th June. This year the theme is 'Tiki', with a live band (complete with ukulele!) providing the soundtrack as you sample the cocktails, hog roast and much more besides. Skypark will be transformed into a water park for the day, with a colossal 90 metre-long water slide for tenants to go down raising money for Cash for Kids. Make sure you keep 13th June free of meetings to make the most of the day! Elsewhere we hear from new businesses to Skypark, DC Thomson, Emirates, Axis and Infiniti – turn to page 7 for a Q&A interview with the publishing giant in which they open up on how they feel about their new offices. We have a big charity special too to celebrate the fantastic work done by Travel 2 and HML, among many others, to raise cash for those who need it most – more information can be found on page 20. We have two exciting competitions, including the chance to win an ergonomically designed, hugely stylish desk chair by Skypark tenants Infiniti design - go to page 10 for more information on your chance to win this unique product. Skypark would like to offer a very warm welcome to Axis, one of the UK’s fastest growing animation studios, as the latest high profile tenant to join Scotland’s biggest business campus. Axis creates animation for some of the world’s leading names in commercials, games, TV programmes and films. Its new bespoke designed creative space at Skypark will allow the animation studio and its sister companies with 90 staff to work more closely together on projects, as well as benefiting from the
first-rate facilities that are available for Skypark tenants. Axis’ managing director Richard Scott is very happy to have made the move: “Axis and our sister companies Flaunt and axisVFX have been expanding over the last 5 years. When we grew to over ninety people in 2012 we knew it was time to look for a studio space that was more directly suited to our needs as creative animation and VFX studios. We wanted to create an environment that our team would be inspired by, bringing people together, allowing them to talk more with people out with their areas of expertise. It is important that our space is a reflection of our teams’ creative talents and our friendly collaborative nature.
“The Skypark location is also great, so much change has happened in Finnieston since I last worked here over 20 years ago. The area has a great mix of bars, restaurants and other facilities, perfect for our staff but also perfect for entertaining our clients. We’re at Skypark, you’re at Skypark – a’body’s at Skypark! Leading media organisation DC Thomson has recently moved its Glasgow-based staff to Skypark. Established in 1905 as a family business, DC Thomson currently has around 1700 employees and publishes the Beano and of course The Sunday Post, which features well-known strips The Broons and Oor Wullie. Skyline has an exclusive interview with DC Thomson’s Dundee-based Head of Estates, Barry Strain, about managing the move of Glasgow staff to Skypark, and Bill Gibb, Chief Reporter at The Sunday Post who is based in Skypark. Read on to find out about the move and what they think of the new surroundings:
Bill Gibb, Chief Reporter, The Sunday Post What is the best part about working for DC Thomson and The Sunday Post? DC Thomson has a long and established history in publishing as of course does The Sunday Post. This year The Sunday Post is celebrating its centenary and it’s set to be a big year for us. How has the move to Skypark been? Very smooth. From the first morning we moved in, everything has been handled very professionally. What Skypark features/facilities are important to you? It’s in a prime location with excellent facilities and adequate car parking.
Barry Strain, Group Head of Estates, DC Thomson Why have you moved to Skypark? The quality of space at Skypark really fitted our requirements. The building also offers excellent facilities for staff including a gym, shop and café. How has the move to Skypark been? It went extremely well. Staff like the space and the building. We have also had great assistance from the Skypark management team. What branches of the business will be based here? Our Glasgow based staff include some members of the Editorial teams for The Sunday Post, The Weekly News and Scottish Wedding Directory and marketing colleagues. We also have hotdesk facilities for staff travelling to Glasgow from our other offices. What attracted you to Skypark? The location, quality of space we’ve taken on and the availability of ample parking. The facilities for staff are good and the building is well managed with an on-site management team. What do you hope to gain from having offices here? Having happy and contented staff working in a building that suits their requirements.

HERALD BUDGET BREAKFAST AT SKYPARK Skypark hosted the great and good of the city’s corporates in March as the Herald Budget Breakfast took place in Skypark. The event, sponsored by Skypark, McClure Naismith and Campbell Dallas, was well-attended by Glasgow’s corporate sector and also Skypark tenants, who made the most of the chance to have the Budget analysed by some of Scotland’s most distinguished financial experts right on their doorstep. Suite 6/2 was a perfect venue for the occasion, with many guests praising the recently refurbished interior and fantastic views on offer from the sixth floor of Skypark! With a varied portfolio that includes the design and fit out of the Robert Burns Birthplace and Museum, the new entrance to Edinburgh Zoo and many other commercial developments (including the wall graphics in the -1 corridor of Skypark 1) Infiniti collaborates on diverse projects. As most of you know, Skypark’s a big supporter of Clyde 1 & 2’s Cash for Kids. The charity does great work and raises funds to benefit the most vulnerable children in communities across Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Every penny donated to Cash for Kids is spent on the children and families who desperately need our help. The Skyline team, visited Lesley and Susan of Clyde 1&2’s Cash for Kids and Aileen Macdonald and her team at the Centre for Underfives in Parnie Street, Glasgow, to find out how funds raised by Cash for Kids really help to make a difference to charities like the Centre for Underfives for families and their children with additional support needs.
Aileen says, “We set up the charity a number of years ago and for the past 10 years we have been based in Parnie Street. After spotting a gap in services for families with additional support needs children, we set up an outreach service called “Toys on the Road”, which is funded by Radio Clyde 1&2’s Cash for Kids.
This money has helped us to develop the outreach service and to purchase much needed sensory and specialist toys for the families to borrow. Specialist toys, for example a wooden activity centre costs from £235 and a sensory toy that helps develop manipulative skills can cost upwards of £139. These are very expensive and Aileen Macdonald, manager of the Centre for Under 5s, explains how it runs are out with the price range of most parents, so we are constantly fund on a shoestring budget yet supports raising to buy new toys and equipment. hundreds of children with sensory, physical and learning difficulties.
“Our goal this year is to buy sensory pods and specialist sensory equipment, which would give children a brand new experience at home or at school. The specialist toys and equipment offer children with learning difficulties and sensory impairment to have fun new experiences through play, which will help them to learn, develop new skills and gain confidence. “Not only are the parents and children able to borrow the toys from the Specialist Schools and Development Centres’ that they attend they are also welcome to visit the Centre for Underfives in Parnie Street and choose toys at their leisure. A flexible service for all!” said Aileen. She continues,“The Centre is a hugely creative place to be and we are a big part of the local community with lots of great supporters nearby. We were the instigators in displaying hanging baskets in the Merchant City and have won awards for our Christmas window
displays, beating off competition from our designer neighbours! We are also proud to say we have been awarded Commonwealth Games Legacy status that recognises our role in making a difference to the community in the long term.” Aileen finishes “We really appreciate the support of everyone at Skypark and thank everyone for donating to Cash for Kids. Some children need more support than others to achieve skills so every penny raised can really make a difference to the children and our services.” The slip ‘n’ slide, slips off at 3.30 pm from Cranston Street car park. A parent who has used the facilities at the Centre for Under 5’s explains...
“I have twin sons, one of whom has the condition Hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). He needs a lot of stimulation as he has severe stiffness in his right side. The toy library is fantastic for us, if there is anything they don’t have they are willing to try and get these items for you. These toys are expensive to buy and if children like my son needs lots of stimulation it is hard to fund this. This service is very valuable to families like us and in my opinion deserves all the funding and support it needs.”

SKYPARK SECURITY TEAM ARE TOP IN SCOTLAND! In April Palmaris Services, Skypark’s hard-working security team, formally received their award for ‘Regional Winner for Scotland Best Team 2014’ from Trevor Elliot from the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). The crew beat off stiff competition from nationwide companies to claim the top regional honour, which means Palmaris Services will enter automatically into the National BSIA awards to be held later this year. Daniel Harkness, contracts manager of Palmaris Services, said: “Our business is about people and thrives on developing good working relationships between our staff and clients. It’s thanks to our staff and the Skypark team for all their support in helping us to achieve the award.”
News from Four Seasons have decided to write and perform a play for the younger children about the life cycle of a butterfly which is proving interesting! Four Seasons Nursery has been very busy learning about plants and wildlife during Springtime and the children are looking forward to the Commonwealth Games this summer. Inez Murray, the nursery owner said

Our Commonwealth news is that we are planning a baton relay from our other nursery to Skypark on Friday 13th of June and then our Four Seasons Games on Friday 20th June.
“This year the older children chitted then planted potatoes which we are just about to harvest. We are also growing lettuce and carrots to promote healthy eating.
“We have been learning all about the different countries in the Commonwealth and about the sports that will take place. We have had a visit from a previous silver medalist in the badminton who told us all about his sport. We are all very excited!”

On Sunday 18th May 2014 Skypark welcomed families to a school sports fun day in celebration of the 5x50 Challenge 2014 grande finale where top Scots endurance athlete Shona Thomson, runner in this year’s Antartic Marathon, launched the special day. The 5x50 event is a charity challenge that encourages people to run, walk, jog or cycle 5k (or 30 minute exercise equivalent), every day for 50 days with the aim of changing exercise habits for a lifetime. Run by a small team of volunteers, 5x50 raises funds for charities where ‘Challengers’ sign up individually or in teams, through the website, from anywhere in the world by paying a £5 registration fee which goes to charity. Mark Houston representing the core 5x50 Challenge 2014 team said: “The 5x50 team were delighted to have Skypark partnering with us to celebrate the end of the third 5x50 Challenge. This year, we had over 5,000 people taking part across the globe and raised over £50,000 for Charity in the process but we know we simply couldn’t achieve this without the support of many people and organisations such as Angela Higgins and her team at Skypark. They have been brilliant to work with over the last 3 years and we hope that continues for the 5x50 Challenge in 2015 and beyond.”

Who’s your style icon? Sam Faiers from The Only Way is Essex. She always looks amazing, whether she’s casual in jeans and trainers or dressed up for a night out in a cute playsuit or a dress with false eyelashes and killer heels.
Most prized wardobe item? Probably my wedding dress – the most expensive dress I’ve ever bought. It’s just a shame you only get to wear it once. And my heels: at just five foot two I need all the help I can get in the height department! Biggest fashion disaster? I’ve probably had loads over the years. Bumbags and shellsuits as a kid spring to mind as some of the worst, but they were fashionable at the time – honest! More recently, a pair of zebra stiletto shoe boots. They look fantastic, but are so uncomfortable I usually only manage an hour or two of hobbling before I need to take them off!

What’s your most prized wardrobe item? It has to be my Karen Millen pony fur winter coat. It’s so soft and cosy, and a classic mac design so it will never go out of fashion. I had to drive to the store in Edinburgh to collect it as it had sold out everywhere else, but it was definitely worth the trip! What’s your biggest fashion disaster? I’ve had quite a few fashion disasters, but the biggest one was undoubtedly a combination of lime green Hunter wellington boots and a matching mini skirt, complete with brown tights and polo neck - eugh! I don’t know what made me think that was a good combination!

Over ÂŁ12k raised for Teenage Cancer Trust We are delighted that over ÂŁ12,000 was raised at the art exhibition at Skypark in March. The exhibition was supported by Life With Art and organised by Katie Beattie, sister to Judith who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia last year, and as a current art student, the inspiration for the exhibition. Judith was treated at the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) ward within the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow. Half the money raised has gone towards a new TCT unit in the west of Scotland like the one Judith was treated in. This will allow more young people to be treated in a teenage unit instead of an adult ward. The other half will go towards research. Specifically, research into why young people develop cancer. A big thanks goes to everyone who supported the exhibition, including the artists who donated their work and everyone who purchased artwork to help reach the incredible total!

Charity hot spot… In this issue, we thought we’d share who is doing what for charity this summer. Congratulations to everyone who does that extra mile, raising tons of cash for so many great causes. You’re all amazing! HML raised a whopping £45,379 through the phone line call in on the night of Sports Relief and Vicky from Thinkfrog Marketing raised over £300 in a swimathon, all for Sports Relief 2014.

he Travel 2 team is limbering up for a multitude of fundraisers starting in June when Mark Henderson, takes on June’s Tough Mudder Scotland, in aid of Help for Heroes and the Old Victorians Association that supports injured service men and woman.
