On Friday 19th August, it’s party time when Skypark friends and family join our Micareta carnival, our very own take on the Olympics). Grab your tickets, enjoy great street food, and get set for our hair raising charity zipwire challenge! Billy Currie unveil’s his photography exhibition, a stunning collection of images have taken pride of place in the Skypark 1 gallery. You can also snap up his prints if you’re looking for some original artwork.. In other exciting news, huge congratulations to the Fleet Alliance and Travel 2 teams that took part in The Marie Trust’s first ‘Sleep Rough Night for Glasgow’s homeless. Over 40 people slept rough in our car park and raised a whopping £12k in total for vital day centre services. Finally, congratulations to our tenants Clyde Space who are expanding again in Skypark. Also to Bala Sport, the only UK based Fairtrade sports ball business was the official ball sponsor for the Homeless World Cup 2016 in Glasgow. Well done everyone! ‘Sleep Rough Night’ at Skypark raises £12,000 for Glasgow’s Homeless
W
e’re delighted to congratulate our teams from Fleet Alliance and Travel 2 for braving the elements to raise funds for ‘sleep rough for 1 night so other people don’t have to’. Along with 40 participants, they helped to raise a whopping £12k for The Marie Trust in aid of Glasgow’s Homeless. The ‘sleep rough night’ was held in Skypark’s car park on Friday 20th

May and every penny raised will help to maintain the Marie Trust’s vital Day Centre services for disadvantaged people in Glasgow. The Charity provides Crisis Intervention for people sleeping rough in the City - including showers, toiletries, clothing, food and sleeping bags. Catherine Lavery, Fundraiser for The Marie Trust says, “We are delighted and grateful to all of our participants as we smashed our £4k target and raised £12k on the night. Thanks to the teams
from Fleet Alliance and Travel 2 for taking part and also to our supporters Skypark for donating the car park and to McDonalds (Finnieston). It is a lonely and dangerous life for Glasgow’s homeless and The Marie Trust believes everyone has the right to a better life. The funds will make a difference to vulnerable people living rough in the City. Bala kicks off as official ball sponsor of Homeless World Cup 2016
S
kypark resident Bala Sport, the only UK based Fairtrade sports ball business was the official ball sponsor alongside Scotmid Cooperative for the Homeless World Cup 2016. The event was held in Glasgow from 10th-16th July, the first time a global football tournament had been played with Fairtrade certified balls, helping to change lives around the world. The Homeless World Cup is a unique, pioneering social movement which uses football to inspire homeless people to change their own lives. Joint director of Bala Sport, Angus Coull gives an insight into how the Fairtrade sports ball business will work in parallel. Angus says: “We are really delighted to make it to the Homeless World Cup 2016. Over 400 matches were played with the special HWC16 Bala Astro ball.
At the end of the tournament each team took away a Bala Fairtrade ball. “We raised around £110,000 from 115 member investors in our community benefit society, membership includes two schools – in Paisley and in Irvine. The Homeless World Cup ball was developed in consultation with Street Soccer Scotland and is a special high quality multi-surface ball called the Bala Astro. Our balls are designed by Glasgow agency Reflex Blue and made in Pakistan, many of them handstitched. Bala will have put Fairtrade balls on the world map, raising awareness that Fairtrade sports balls exist in the 52 countries taking part in the event. We are passionate about giving workers who make our high quality footballs in Pakistan a fair deal. Not only to they receive fair pay and work in safe conditions, they also benefit
from the extra Fairtrade Premium which they invest in the likes of free healthcare and water purification plants, the latter for the benefit of the whole community, not just workers. “Fairtrade changes lives and we look forward to being part of this amazing and ground breaking initiative that has also proven to change lives in a major way for homeless men and women around the world.” Bala has started a custom ball service, great for corporate gifts and promotion. Billy Currie Photography Exhibition
B
illy Currie is an award winning photographer in national and international photography competitions, one of the most recent being the overall winner of the 2014 EISA International Photography Competition. Billy comments, “Having had an interest in landscape photography for some time it was the DSLR age that turned my interest into an obsession, my computing background combined with digital technology has resulted in far less restrictions and much more creative freedom for me as a photographer. “To date, many of my images have proven popular not just in Scotland but also in many other countries around the world.” Billy also runs a range of photography workshops for both beginner and advanced skill levels. Clyde Space expands at Skypark Scotland’s leading Space Technology company, situated right here in Skypark, has more exciting news to shout about! In recent news they have revealed that not only have they won some game-changing contracts but they are now expanding…again, in order to increase their manufacturing capacity.
In-Orbit Demonstration Mission
Clyde Space CEO, Craig Clark, said: “The Satellite Applications Catapult In-Orbit Demonstration programme is an exciting opportunity for the UK Space Sector and one which Clyde Space is delighted to support. Our CubeSats will deliver highly capable, reliable platforms which will enable the demonstration of new and advanced space applications as part of the IOD project. These applications and subsequent data generation could benefit a number of industries from agriculture and energy to the government for town planning.”
Skypark Expansion Clyde Space is acquiring yet more space right here at Skypark – watch this space! This follows Clyde Space’s most successful year and comes just a little over a year after moving from its previous base because it was too small. In 2016 they will increase their total ‘cleanroom’ space to 10,000 square feet. In just over a year the Clyde Space team has more than doubled to 80 and that is expected to increase to 100 this year. The recruitment will bolster spacecraft development, manufacturing, business development and back-office functions. CEO Craig Clark said the demand for mass-produced spacecraft and systems was driving the company’s rapid growth and is making Clyde Space a global leader in the design and manufacture of CubeSats.
Clyde Space takes its name from the River Clyde, which was once synonymous with high-volume and high-quality shipbuilding. Clyde Space aims to reclaim this mantle for spacecraft manufacture, and is currently engaged with development of over 60 nanosatellites. In May Clyde Space announced that they have been commissioned by the Satellite Applications Catapult and Innovate UK to build four CubeSats for the £1.5million project. The satellites will eventually be launched from the International Space Station (ISS) in an ‘in-orbit demonstration’ (IOD) of technical and business propositions that have a high projected return on investment. The Launch opportunities from the ISS are provided by NanoRacks, via its Space Act Agreement with NASA’s U.S. National Lab. The satellites being built for the Catapult will be used to offer flight-proven CubeSat platforms and regular launch opportunities from the ISS.
Our STEM Work Inspiring and informing the next generation of budding scientists, mathematicians and engineers, the Clyde Space staff have been visiting schools around the country as part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh’s Schools Talks Programme which is designed to provide free curriculumlinked talks to schools in Scotland. Fostering the growth of the industry for future generations, we look forward to seeing some of these familiar faces at Clyde Space in years to come!

The Skypark Security, Cleaning and Maintenance teams were treated to a go-carting day out by Palmaris Services Ltd. The team were given the day out in recognition of all their hard work throughout the year - well deserved, we’re sure you’ll agree! The race winner was one of the newest members to the security team - Jordan Brown, closely followed by Thomas McAleer in 2nd place and Danny McGuire in 3rd - well done guys!
5 minute interview with our Admin Assistant Karha Hughes Role at Skypark? Administration Assistant Random observation? I am first point of contact for tenants or members of the public with enquiries within the SkyHub and Management Suite. I meet and greet visitors and tenants that come into the serviced office area. My role includes general admin work for the centre management team and organising utility bills for vacant suites and when there is a change of tenancy. Overall I can help with any enquiry when a call is made to the management suite. Chill out? I enjoy going on long drives, getting my hair and nails done and applying fake tan! I also enjoy going to the pub. I prefer to go out and being sociable! What makes you happy? I like coming to work, and enjoy learning new things from the management team. Every day is different. It’s a fast paced working environment. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family. I like shopping and socialising with my friends and going to pubs and clubs!

Scotland’s Portrait By Neil Barr Photography
N
eil Barr the award winning photographer is exhibiting ‘Scotland’s Portrait’ a solo exhibition featuring 20 Scottish landscapes in Skypark’s donated gallery space from 13th June to 8th July.
“The huge variety of forms, light and weather that Scotland gifts us creates a multitude of possible canvases. I am particularly interested in those fleeting moments as one weather system moves in and another moves off, that reveals the personality of the landscape.
Neil’s landscape photography exhibition is a personal journey that began in 2014, when he first picked up a digital camera. At this time he was at a cross roads in his life after losing his business due to ill health.
“I am very excited to be hosting another solo exhibition in Glasgow. I’m particularly looking forward to showing some new images in all their detail for the very first time which makes the hard work I’ve put in over the past year worthwhile”.
Neil Barr although a relative new comer, is a national and international photography award winner who began selling his prints internationally after a successful crowd funding campaign enabled him to buy new camera equipment.
Neil Barr was recently awarded Highly Commended in the Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition . A 3 month solo exhibition will also be held at Dundee Discovery Point from July to October 2016.
Neil took up landscape photography as a means to get out, travelling over 30,000 miles. He explains how he got started: “I often camped out at the top of mountains or stood in pouring rain waiting for that one brief moment that makes it all worthwhile. “Ever since I was a child living on the edge of town, far up in the hills, I have had a deep love of the outdoors. There is a peace and calmness that comes about when walking through the landscape.
