First up, we're so excited about the launch of our first Skypark Curatorial Fellowship 2019 with the Glasgow School of Art that will nurture the talent of five Glasgow based curators - Rosie O’Grady, Giulia Coletti, Alice de Bourg and Mattie Roberts of Casual Nexus and Holly Yeo Knoxman - all are recent MLitt Curatorial Practice graduates from the GSA. With four new art exhibitions running at Skypark this year, the curators will make novel responses to the world in visually intriguing, creative and at times humorous ways, with the themes of work and environmentalism running through. First to launch on 18th March, is Rosie O’Grady’s ‘Strange Weather at Skypark’, a project that will interact with tenants and celebrate sustainability by making creative interventions here. Go to page 8 to find out how you and your company can get involved with these inspiring projects. In Finding Your Feet news, we send our very best wishes to the amazing Cor Hutton who is the first Scot to have a double hand transplant and is making great progress. Look out on the Express Way for Paul Johnson who is starring in our Billboard Campaign! For Paul is the Young Hero, Young Scot Award winner for his work with schools and young people – go to page page 12 for more FYF news. A new season is a good time to make healthy lifestyle changes, so if you’re keen to get back ‘in the saddle’ then make a date for our cycling event on 2nd April. As we reveal plans for our new cycling facility, Cycling Scotland, Dr Bike and nextbike are offering more on becoming a cycle friendly employer from guided rides, and training to how get cycling round the City. The BBC’s Tomorrow’s World recently shone a light on Spire Global, a leader in the aerospace market with it's UK base in Glasgow, as a place of excellence at the world’s cutting edge of satellite technology. As part of our push on sustainability and to improve health and wellbeing, we are delighted to announce that Skypark is fully embracing ‘pedal power’ and working hard to become a Cycling Friendly Employer. As part of this, we are pleased that we have secured funding from Cycling Scotland, for a brand new state of the art cycling facility. Our new facility will have space for 250 new bike racks, toilets, showers and a changing area with a dedicated repair space that is designed for a cyclist’s needs in mind. Skypark’s cycle plan will be available at our first Cycling Event on 2nd April 2019, when we team up with community partners Cycling Scotland that will showcase the benefits to all employers of becoming a Cycling Friendly Employer; nextbike the bike share

SKYPARK GIVES EARLY-CAREER OPPORTUNITIES TO FIVE GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART CURATORS We’re delighted to announce the launch of our first Skypark Curatorial Fellowship 2019 with The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) - the first initiative of its kind for the GSA Curatorial practice graduates, that will invest in the emergence of graduates from academic study to professional practice - a natural progression of our long association since housing the School of Design here, during a campus redevelopment and as a corporate partner of the GSA Degree Show. The Fellowship will give early-career opportunities to five Glasgow-based curators in a bid to support and nurture future artistic talent in Scotland. The Skypark Curatorial Fellowship 2019 is a professional development opportunity for five candidates - Rosie O’Grady, Giulia Coletti, Alice de Bourg and Mattie Roberts of Casual Nexus and Holly Knox Yeoman - all are recent MLitt Curatorial Practice graduates from the GSA. The purpose of the Fellowship is to curate four stand-alone exhibitions taking themes that relate to work and environmentalism with a related public programme that will involve Skypark tenants. The exhibitions will run from spring to autumn centring on Skypark’s ‘Donated Gallery’ established for the City’s artists and art festivals as an alternative exhibition space to a traditional gallery. GSA Careers Advisor Lesley Black will lead the project for the GSA. Lesley Black said: “We welcome the GSA’s first Curatorial Fellowship with Skypark. The ‘Donated Gallery’ is an
opportunity to give our students context for visual arts professional development for our students. The impact of the partnership will be twofold, contributing to the development of Glasgow-based emerging artists and also early career curators. The project will be supported by two departments at the GSA, Enterprise Studio and MLitt Curatorial Practice.” The GSA Enterprise Studio connects alumni globally to help develop business skills and contacts for future success. The MLitt in Curatorial Practice is run jointly by the University of Glasgow and The Glasgow School of Art. The one-year programme offers training to pursue independent and self-directed working, and to lay practical, intellectual and professional foundations for working in future curatorial roles. Students collaborate with the city’s high calibre visual
art partners, such as, Glasgow International; GoMA; Tramway; and The Common Guild. A regular exhibition curated by MLitt students takes place at the Hunterian Museum. Mónica Núñez Laiseca, Senior Lecturer in Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art) said “Through the MLitt in Curatorial Practice (Contemporary Art) programme graduates are able to work in different types of spaces and with artists of various spanning very different types of practices to stage exhibitions and projects events that explore issues of importance in contemporary society. This year’s Fellows, all recent graduates from the programme, have created intelligent proposals that respond to Skypark’s diverse community of tenants. Scotland produces a wealth of curatorial talent, however the opportunities for early-career curators are limited. My hope is that other organisations will be inspired by this example”.

Strange Weather at Skypark: Monday 18th March - Thursday 9th May Rosie O’Grady presents Strange Weather, a curatorial research project, based around a proposal for a new gallery which materialises only when climate or resources permit. The gallery operates with environmental values at its core and in the first instance is a hypothetical exercise in imagining such a space. It creates a framework in which to ask questions about the response and responsibility of arts organisations to our rapidly changing global environment. The Donated Gallery at Skypark provides an opportunity to enact and test these principles alongside Fine Art students from Glasgow School of Art who will explore how their work could be part of the new gallery programme. This learning and process will be made public throughout the exhibition programme. The participation of students in this project is supported by GSA Sustainability. Johanna is interested in the speculative nature of Strange Weather at Skypark. Her recent work has focussed on ideas of futurity and deep time, as well as considering how we can

utilise storytelling for imagining new worlds. She has previously located work in contexts such as the business district of San Francisco and the Musselburgh Ash lagoons, and she enlists environmental and social values, and an ecological awareness in her practice. Eleni combines photographic and sculptural approaches in her practice. She is interested in opening up photographic processes and apparatus, and her work is an aggregate of sorting, noting, copying and transforming. For her work “As a lover or a chameleon” (2018), Eleni spent a whole summer copying a book by RH Quaytman which had run out of print. She used the process of the cyanotype, which relies on UV light, spending every sunny day in the studio, imprinting one page after the other until she had completed a copy of the book. » Come along to Skypark 1 Reception on Tuesday 19th March - meet Rosie, Johanna and Eleni and find out how you can get involved - 12:30 - 1:30pm. LEIDOS: STEMMING THE SKILLS GAP
You’ve probably heard in the media that the UK is facing a large and growing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills shortage.
Leidos is a global science, technology and engineering company, tackling some of the most complex problems in government, health, transportation, defence, safety and security.
In 2018, research by STEM Learning found that 89% of STEM businesses were struggling to recruit qualified workers, with over 173,000 STEM positions unfilled at an estimated cost to UK businesses of over £1.5billion per year. Given rapid advances in technology and science, and our increasing reliance on technology in all aspects of our lives, the situation will only get worse unless there is focus and investment in STEM. Leidos (based in Skypark 1) is tackling these challenges by building a future pipeline of STEM skills through its early careers programmes, including: • • • •
STEM workshops and work experience for school children Interactive STEM sessions in local science and education centres One-to-one mentoring and paid internships in partnership with the UK charity, Career Ready Modern Apprentice, Graduate Apprentice and full Graduate roles, allowing young people to “earn while they learn” through combined tuition and paid work

LEIDOS SCRUMS DOWN WITH GLASGOW WARRIORS RUGBY TEAM Leidos, a keen supporter of sports clubs in the US, has recently broadened its UK sponsorship investment by signing a deal with a leading British rugby team, the Glasgow Warriors. Leidos is supporting the Warriors rugby team until 2020. It represents the company’s first professional sports sponsorship in the UK. “This is a really exciting partnership,” says Glasgow Warriors Managing Director Nathan Bombrys. “We've already discussed some very exciting ways in which we can activate the sponsorship, and some Leidos team members were our guests at our recent game against the Scarlets.” Leidos employs around 32,000 people in 30 countries around the world, including more than 1,200 people in the U.K., serving major clients including the Scottish Government, the Ministry of Defence, and NATS. ext time you’re driving past Skypark on the Express Way, remember to look out for Finding Your Feet’s Paul Johnson who is starring in our Billboard Campaign! For Paul is the Young Hero, Young Scot Award winner for his work in raising awareness of Finding Your Feet with schools and young people, to prevent them from making the same mistakes that he made as a teenager. Paul who works full time for our amputee charity, runs talks for school pupils, raising awareness of the dangers of drinking and taking drugs based on his personal experience. Paul said: “I struggled as a teenager with personal issues, suffered depression and became dependent on drugs and alcohol. Over time, I became reckless in my behaviour. I tried to take a shortcut across a railway track and I was electrocuted and knocked unconscious for 2 hours. I woke up and realised my legs were on fire and managed to call an ambulance.

FINDING YOUR FEET’S COR: FIRST IN SCOTLAND FOR A DOUBLE HAND TRANSPLANT O
n the fifth anniversary of Finding Your Feet, the charity’s Founder Cor became the first Scottish double hand transplant recipient following years of being unable to find a donor match.
After over a dozen false alarms over the years, she was finally informed that a match for her own blood group, skin tone and hand size had been found. She was taken from her home in Lochwinnoch to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance, and the surgery began at around 1pm on Monday the 8th January. Surgeons worked tirelessly for 12 hours in an extremely complicated and high-pressure procedure. The team included Professor Simon Kay, who was recently appointed OBE in the New Year’s Honours, and Professor Andrew Hart from Scotland, who performed the surgery to remove Cor’s hands and lower legs in 2013 and has since become her close friend. Cor lost her hands and feet after contracting Sepsis and acute Pneumonia five years ago and nearly lost her life. Since her illness she has achieved many things, going on to set up the Finding Your Feet Amputee Charity and three world records among many other achievements...too many to list. Just a few months ago she even conquered Kilimanjaro but her dream to hold her son’s hand has finally come true. There have been over 150 online news articles and Cor was headline news on ITV and BBC for 3 nights in a row! It’s been amazing just how far reaching the news of Cor’s transplant has
been reported, with an exclusive report from the Mail on Sunday and great articles from the BBC, The Sunday Post and BBC Scotland. She is now resting at home but found time to give a fantastic interview with Professor Hart on the Kaye Adams Morning Show. Cor is making remarkable progress and footage of her now famous ‘finger wiggle’ has been seen all over the world. She was moving her new fingers within a couple of days and surgeons are amazed at how well she’s doing. She has already achieved so much in her life, we can’t wait to see what she does now! Finding Your Feet supports amputees in achieving rehabilitation and independence in hospital, home, employment and sport. They provide opportunities for individuals and their families to come together to share experiences or simply socialise. This is done through a variety of clubs for both physical as well as emotional wellbeing.

The 23 year old from West Dunbartonshire has settled in to Skypark life, getting to know tenants and managing services. Starting his shift at 8:30 in the morning he greets everyone with a smile. With a background in hospitality and tourism he knows how to make people feel welcome! During his lunchbreak he has been exploring the local area and is always on the look-out for new Skyperk offers for staff. As the face of Skypark, Brian is the first port of call for many queries, from “can my prescription be delivered” to "what is on the lunch menu today?" TAKE 5… WITH KEVIN MCDONALD FROM OUR MAINTENANCE TEAM What do you enjoy about being part of the Skypark team? ‘Everything! The work is so varied. Companies and staff change all the time so I am always meeting new people. I have been here 8 years and seen the building through lots of transformations from the refurbishment of Skypark 5 to the mono-blocking of the entrance ramp at Skypark 1.’
Ever wondered how the public spaces of the Skypark campus are kept so well? Kevin McDonald, our longest serving maintenance worker has everything to do with it! From changing locks to hanging paintings he is a well-known face around Skypark and no task is too big or too small for him to tackle. Skyline caught up with him in his workshop to find out more.
What do you like to do when you are not working? ‘I love the outdoors, hiking, snowboarding, climbing. Last year my friends and I walked and cycled the West Highland Way in one day! It took 22 hours and a lot of planning, but we raised £3000 for Yorkhill Children's Charity.’ Describe yourself in 3 words… ‘Easy going, outdoorsy and thrill seeking!’ Where would you like to be in 10 years? ‘Still here! I am saving to buy a place of my own now – I would love to find somewhere I can do up or build my own home. ‘

he hard work of our caring team at Bright Horizons Nursery has been recognised by the Care Inspectorate, after a recent visit to meet the staff and experience the space and the resources that are available.
Michelle Mcleary of Bright Horizons said: “The nursery had their Care Inspectorate visit and we are delighted with the very good and good grades awarded for key areas of our nursery. They were praised for their motivated and passionate staff team along with large, bright and wellresourced playrooms and the good use made of UPCOMING NURSERY EVENTS the indoor and outdoor garden spaces. “The nursery is a “more inclusive” setting with nutritionally balanced meals prepared on-site by our chef. Nappies, wipes and extra-curricular activities are included within the fee. “One of Bright Horizon’s main goals is to be at the heart of the local community and we definitely try and do that within the Skypark business community. We took part in a number of joint activities last year and this year we look forward to doing the same. I have been working in the nursery for the last 18 years where I have worked my way up from Modern Apprentice, to Room Leader to Manager. Throughout this time I have gained my SVQ Level 3 and 4 which has allowed me to not only develop my knowledge on how to support the children’s learning and development but how I can support my team to reach their potential. As I truly believe that having a knowledgeable and passionate team allows us to provide the best care and education for the children within our nursery. When doing this I endeavour to involve parents and carers as much as possible as partnership working is key to continuity of care which is the foundation to ensuring our children get the best start in life. MACS ADVENTURE’S IN FUNDRAISING Erin Pattie from the Impact team at Macs Adventure came to our Social in February and explained why the adventure company has partnered with the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity this year. ‘A number of our staff have had children over the past few years, some of whom have benefited from the amazing work of the charity so it is a cause very close to our hearts. Beyond that we wanted to support a local organisation and given that we can see the hospital from our office window, you can’t get much more local than that!’ ‘We are excited to fundraise for a charity that means so much to us’ she continues ‘We have a target to raise £5,000 which will fund the hospital’s Teddy Bear Ward. This fantastic facility allows medical staff to walk young patients and their parents through serious procedures and operations using teddy bears as patients. It is an ambitious target but we hope to smash it and make a meaningful contribution to this brilliant charity.’ ‘Being an adventure company, we will be walking FORTY! miles in one day along the West Highland Way this August. We have just set up our dedicated fundraising page so please follow the link to support us in this and to make a donation to the Children’s Hospital!’
LEIDOS BAKES! Leidos recently ran a Bake Sale & Tombola in aid of the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH). Their aim was to raise awareness of Mental Health in the Workplace whilst raising money for SAMH, as research shows at least 1 in 6 employees experience mental health problems. One of the organisers, Lorraine Cameron said ‘our colleagues exceeded expectations with their kind donations of home baking and tombola prizes and all the hard work leading up to the event was definitely worth it as we raised over £1,200.’ Leidos hope to reach £2,000 by July this year. They would like to thank everyone who supported the sale by buying a sweet treat or two!

The team set up a Book Drive drop off box in the office and appealed for any fiction and non-fiction books both new and nearly new. In February, they were overjoyed to hand over a fantastic selection of books that will help revive the library. WELLBEING DAY Over lunchtime on the 23rd of January - a typically grey January day we cheered things up for staff with a Wellbeing event in the reception area of Skypark 1. You could cycle for a smoothie, meet the therapists who work out of our multi-purpose treatment room, try out their services and enjoy some deliciously healthy free lunch tasters from local companies Hygge Food and Lean Factory. The food went down extremely well! Bex from vegan food service Hygge Food served gluten free Glesga Mince and Tatties and southern fried cauliflower weengs with homemade BBQ sauce, and Ilona from food prep company Lean Factory served samples of her new 3 meal menu. DOREEN SINCLAIR Doreen Sinclair has recently taken over our beauty service at Skypark. She offers a range of treatments for men and women, with waxing so far being her most booked service. The beauty therapist trained at Estee Lauder and has recently completed a course in gel nails. She loves coming to Skypark and has had very positive feedback from all her clients so far. ‘I particularly enjoy eyebrow waxing and gel nail treatments as I love to see how happy clients are with the end results’ she says. If you are short on time during the working day the quickest treatments are small area waxing such as eyebrows, lip or chin she advises. Doreen works out of our on-site treatment room every Thursday. Accento Café, just across the road from Skypark was the first Sardinian Café in Scotland. The small family business is run by two sisters Alessandra and Francesca, along with Riccardo, Francesca's husband. The family arrived in Glasgow in 2014 from Sardinia and decided to bring a taste of home to the Glasgow food scene.

The Café’s best seller is “The Big Franco’ panini which is homemade ciabatta bread stuffed with the best Italian and Sardinian cured meats and cheeses. According to Alessandra, it is compulsory on a lunchbreak! Homemade soup and cake always goes down well at lunchtime too, and the Café is particularly well known for its cannoncini filled with Nutella! Accento also offer a catering service for Skypark businesses and can provide trays of homebaking and savouries for breakfast and lunch meetings or workplace events. Its latest collaboration has been with on-site business Everis UK and the team also provided the delicious lunch tasters at our February Social- who can forget those gorgeous chocolate orange brownies!

"My partner Kasia and I love food and always wanted to do something in catering. The idea for Fritti came to us when we were in Naples and tried Panzerotti for the first time. We thought deep fried calzone pizza in Glasgow, surely that would work?! "The street food over there and the way people eat especially in Naples and Sicily gave us the inspiration for our food. We love how people gather with their friends and family to eat together."

How did you get the amazing van? ‘The van came from Turin, we had it made by a company who specialise in Piaggio Ape street food conversions. I wanted to drive the van back to Scotland but when I suggested it the team in Turin just laughed. We only have a top speed of 25mph so it would have taken quite a while to get all the way back to Glasgow!’ What’s your favourite dish on the menu? Our favourite dish at the moment is probably the Funghi Panzerotti, this is also one of the most popular at Feast Thursday. We've sold out of it at both of our Feast Thursday appearances, so it's seems to be popular in Skypark too! Watch out for Fritti’s return to Skypark in May!

ora Bar and Kitchen is a relaxed Italian restaurant specialising in fresh, handmade pasta, situated just up Argyle Street. At Mora, pasta is the main event! Growing up with an Italian father it was an important part of every meal for Mora’s owner and chef Luciano Mora and he has fond memories of helping his Nonna in her kitchen in Italy, stretching out the pasta dough.
The team at Mora make fresh pasta daily, using recipes and techniques handed down through generations of the Mora family, who originate from the Marché region of Italy. The menu also offers modern Italian-style small plate/starter accompaniments, fresh pizza and focaccia, and a catch of the day on the specials board.
Most of the pasta dishes are available to order in two sizes; the smaller size is a perfect portion for lunch or for sharing a few dishes between friends. Popular dishes include the lobster ravioli, slow-cooked beef shin ragu and pappardelle, seafood linguine, and taglierini (thinly cut fresh pasta) with mushroom, truffle and egg yolk. They also claim to make the best Negronis and Aperol spritzes in town!
