Macs Adventure opens their innovative new office in Skypark 5
Macs Adventure, a travel company going places, has arrived in Skypark 5. Marketing manager Fran McCann treated Skyline to a tour of their inspiring new base camp, which is full of creative solutions and personal touches. In December 2016, self-guided holiday specialists Macs Adventure moved to Skypark after years in their previous HQ at Glasgow’s Speirs Wharf. Their new Skypark home is one of the most dynamic and interesting offices in Glasgow, inspired by companies like Google and Facebook. The unique, travel-themed office is a bespoke solution developed by Julia Grant Interior Design and SJS Property Services. It shows off the values and personality of Macs Adventure, who pride themselves on giving customers a unique and personal travel experience. In the office on the second floor of Skypark 5, you’ll find fun and practical features, including a map-inspired moss wall, a quiet room for focused working, a large kitchen with a herb garden and wine storage for after-work events. Large meeting rooms are connected to video conferencing facilities for easy interaction with offices in other countries, and have blackboard and whiteboard walls to help spark ideas and interaction. The office bikes
take pride of place at the entrance, while a whole wall is dedicated to photos from happy customers out on their travels. “We’ve invested in making our office space a creative and collaborative hub for all our business activities,” says Neil Lapping, founder and Chief Adventure Officer of Macs Adventure. “We love the quiet spaces, noisy spaces, bike spaces, write-able walls, carefully planned AV and IT tech, and a design theme which brings the outdoors indoors, while reflecting our company values.” Team culture is a hugely important part of life at the active, outdoorsy Macs Adventure. The team spend their free time hiking, biking, climbing, running and socialising, and they have an active culture club organising events like pancake breakfast, team lunches, regular quizzes in the office, book club, running club and much more. When moving to Skypark, the proximity to Kelvingrove park, gyms and health centers, and the many high quality cafés, restaurants and bars was one of the main attractions.

Award win for Complete HealthVizion healthcare communications agency Complete HealthVizion is proud and excited. It recently won a prestigious award for work developing educational programmes for healthcare professionals. The Pharmaceutical Marketing Excellence Award (PMEA) was particularly special as it was awarded for raising awareness of rare diseases. There are thousands of rare diseases and patients are often incorrectly diagnosed. For many, it is years before a correct diagnosis is made. The Complete HealthVizion teams in Glasgow, Manchester, Chicago and Macclesfield worked with their client to develop engaging educational initiatives to raise awareness of a rare disease for which a new treatment had recently become available. The PMEA judging panel said, ‘The clarity of the insights into the underlying issues allowed the team to run a programme that achieved
significant change in healthcare providers understanding of a rare disease, resulting in a rapid and significant improvement in diagnosis’. New look Skypark 5 We’re pleased to announce Skypark 5’s comprehensive refurbishment is complete and the building is already 70% occupied with just four suites available. Each available office features a contemporary loft style open plan space with exposed ceilings and brickwork while tenants will have the option to customise the space. New toilet and shower facilities have been added within the common areas of each floor. The available suites range in size from 4,463 sq ft to a full floor of 15,500 sq ft. Latest updates from Skypark Day Nursery... “With spring just around the corner, here at Four Seasons at Skypark we are getting ready to explore the new season. The children have been focusing on planting flowers as well as growing cress and vegetables they can enjoy later on in the year.
“In line with our spring theme, the younger children have taken a great interest in animals and the baby animals born at this time of year. To extend their learning, they were taken on a trip to Pets at Home where they enjoyed meeting a very friendly dog, hamsters, rats, rabbits and tropical fish. They have also taken a trip to look outside from the Skypark scenic lift where the children did some bird spotting.
“All of the children are looking forward to Comic Relief this month; we will be holding a dress down day with lots of fun activities in the week leading up. We will also have a collection bucket available in the foyer and any donations will be gratefully received.

“The nursery will be celebrating many events in the coming months. In February, the children had great fun celebrating Valentine’s Day and in March, children across the nursery will be taking part in sensory and craft activities around Red Nose Day, Mother’s Day as well as celebrating St. David’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day.
“As you may be aware, Four Seasons, who are part of Asquith Day Nurseries & Pre-Schools, has become part of the Bright Horizons family. We look forward to working together as we integrate the two companies to take the nursery from strength to strength.” Karen and the Team
“The older children have been focusing on oceans and will be learning about ships this month. They created a ship in their role-play area and took a trip to Riverside Museum where they participated in a workshop on Nautical Adventures.
First Minister takes tour of iconic TS Queen Mary The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, MSP for Glasgow Southside, has been treated to a tour of the iconic turbine steamship, TS Queen Mary, which was saved from scrap last year by the locally based charity Friends of TS Queen Mary. The TS Queen Mary, now berthed at the Science Centre, is a historic vessel for Scotland as the last surviving Clyde turbine steamship of her kind built in 1933 and Skypark residents – V.Group Ltd employees are actively involved in the project to restore her. Captain Ayad Isoud, deputy operations manager at Seatec UK Ltd and Joe McKee, technical manager are both trustees of the charity along with other members of the team who regularly volunteer. Ayad, who met with the First Minister along with his daughters Iman and Nadi (who are often involved in helping their Dad at weekends) said: “The Charity has saved the TS Queen Mary from being scrapped and has raised £800,000 to go towards the restoration of the ship. We hope that the TS Queen Mary can open to the public from 2018 and can be enjoyed for generations to come.” The restoration project has received support from a large number of local businesses including the Glasgow Science Centre, Strathclyde University, Glasgow School of Art and cadets from Clyde Marine Training will also be getting involved. Clyde Space and Spire Global put Scotland on the space map “While Scotland makes up less than 9% of the UK population it accounts for 18% of jobs in the UK space industry.” (Source: BBC 31.01.17) The Scottish space age has dawned and trailblazing tenants Clyde Space and Spire Global have been hitting the headlines right here from Skypark. Thanks to both companies, the City that is famous for ship building, is leading in the way in Europe in an exciting new age in engineering the ‘Nanosatellite’, a space vehicle that is smaller than a loaf of bread with the capability to mine and monitor data and improve global access to information for everyone. Known as “the father of Scotland’s Satellites”, Craig Clark founder and CEO of Clyde Space and CEO of Spire Global, Peter Platzer bring us up to speed with their companies’ galactic developments. Craig Clark CEO of Clyde Space said, “Scotland is punching well above its
weight in leading the charge and we are delighted to be at the forefront. In the beginning, the UK Space Agency commissioned Clyde Space to design and build Ukube-1 Scotland’s first satellite, this was launched from Kazakhstan in 2014 and has since successfully completed its mission. We’ve quickly grown to be the one of the largest providers of the CubeSat. In the last two years Glasgow, has built more satellites than any other city in Europe.” Craig continues, “Companies are increasingly looking to mine data from satellites from sectors as varied as health, communications, and energy, this data will generate information helping to shape and benefit people around the world”. Using communications as an example, Craig explains how ‘CubeSats’ could open up internet access in far flung corners of the world. He says, “We’ve completed four CubeSats for our Outernet mission due for a pilot launch in New Zealand later this year. The idea is to provide a service to parts of the world that have no access or limited internet access. This information could be in the form of emergency weather warnings and
medical advice to regions most in need. “We’ve recently completed a visit sponsored by the British High Commission to discuss the future of technology and collaboration with New Zealand’s space industry. It’s a hugely exciting time for us and the Scottish space sector,” Craig finishes. Clyde Space has recently been listed on the Sunday Times Export Track 100 for Britain fastest growing international sales. They are also shortlisted in the HSBC Scottish Export Awards 2017 in the ‘High growth exporter of the year’ category, and in the FT ArcelorMittal Boldness in Business Awards 2017. New contemporary art work to be unveiled
As part of this year’s Glasgow Open House Festival, a biannual contemporary art festival that takes place across the City, Skypark will host By end of play, an exhibition exploring the aesthetics and experiences of everyday office environments. The exhibition brings together eleven Glasgow and London-based artists who will present new works that draw on the details of typical office spaces, playing with material, form and proportion to reimagine these familiar settings. By end of play will include sculptural and moving-image works to create a playful environment, drawing attention to the office as an often overlooked space. Nikki Kane, curator of By end of play comments on how Skypark as a venue goes beyond a traditional gallery space reaching office workers to experience the exhibition as they work and for arts audiences to visit a new setting. Nikki says, “We will present the work of approximately eleven artists from Glasgow and London who will be making new pieces for this project. The exhibition will deal with the office as an everyday space and will explore the aesthetics of these environments, drawing out details of the furnishings and styles of typical office spaces, and reimagining these in artistic ways by playing with proportion, colour and material.

“The invited artists will be making artworks based on typical office objects and furnishings, in order to create a whole new office environment installation that is both typical and unusual. The artists will make everything from table structures to screen-savers to pencils, and these sculptural objects will draw attention to the office as an often overlooked space”, Nikki finishes. Included artists are: Alistair Grant, Roos Dijkhuizen, Charlotte Fountaine, Sally Hackett, Nikki Kane, Aaron McCarthy, Bobby Sayers, Leonie Sinden, Claire Weale, Alex Williamson, Phill Wilson-Perkin. By end of play will run from 28 April – 1 May (bank holiday weekend) in Skypark 5, Suite 3B – from 12-6 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Friday opening is to be confirmed. A huge well done to Martin Brown, Managing Director of Fleet Alliance for completing a 90km, Arctic Trek and raising a staggering £16k for The Glasgow Children’s Hospital. Martin tells us how and why he got involved. He says, “In a fit of bravado I agreed publicly to sign up to the Arctic Trek and there was no going back! I reckon it was the biggest mental and physical test I’ve ever put myself through, sleeping in a 2 man tent in sub-zero temperatures and carrying the weight of a fully-laden sledge. Seeing the Northern Lights in all their glory was amazing. The only thing that got me through was knowing I would make a difference to the children and the Hospital. “I am so thankful to everyone that donated and raising £16k is overwhelming. The funds will go to buy enhanced medical equipment to help treat young patients and to fund family support services that care for parents, families and carers during these difficult times. Skypark’s Corinne Hutton the founder of Finding Your Feet the Charity that helps amputees to find their feet in life again, has conquered her first ‘Finding Your Feet Firewalk’ that involved taking a 12 foot barefoot walk across hot coals measuring 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. Corinne said: “It’s been a huge confidence boost and adrenalin rush! I am so proud and thankful to everyone that took part. Thanks also to those who supported us. We’ve raised £4.5k, smashing our £1k target where every penny raised will go to provide a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion projects for families that are affected by amputation or limb difference.” Corinne was joined by foot soldiers, Elizabeth Yesil, right leg below knee amputee, Andy McIntyre, left leg below knee amputee and Suzanne Harkins, upper limb amputee along with Skypark’s Lisa Kirsop and William McFadyen and Jordan Brown of Palmaris. Well done to everyone that took part!

Fleet Alliance Drives Acquisition Skypark tenant Fleet Alliance is expanding the business with the acquisition of Neva Consultants, a deal that creates a new Fleet Alliance Group, giving the company a greater physical presence in the south of the UK. Fleet Alliance Group, will be overseen by managing director, Martin Brown, with current Neva directors, Graham Prince and Nick Collinson, continuing in their existing roles and being responsible for day-to-day operations at Neva. ‘The World Animal Map’ Tours Skypark 18

‘The World Animal Map’ exhibition showcasing the wonderful diversity of animals by their country of origin, from the African Okapi to the Aye Aye of Madagascar, is coming soon to Skypark!

This required a huge amount of research to accurately place the different species and create the silhouettes to make the outlines. ‘The World Animal Map’ was successfully funded as a project on Kickstarter in 2016 and a range of other locations are now underway. as an architectural technician involved in the enclosure design of a variety of exhibits.”
The brainchild of part time architect and artist Danny Campbell, the ‘World Animal Map’ collection was inspired by his placement in Twycross Zoo. Danny says: “The Zoo is famous for housing the PG Tips chimpanzees along with an extensive collection of primates and other species and I spent time there
He continues: “I’ve always had an interest in nature, architecture and art but my time at Twycross gave me the opportunity to explore these interests in a professional capacity. Whilst my job was in the construction and design of new enclosures I was drawn to the art gallery at the Zoo and planned to create my own pieces of work.” Daniel explains the inspiration behind the stunning and unusual art collection. He says: “It’s a conceptual artwork of a world map with obscure and little-known animals located in their geographical location such as Mongolia’s Saiga and Brazil’s
“My latest project highlights our native species within a merged landscape typical of their habitat. The overall aim of the pieces is to explore how intertwined a natural landscape may be to the species that live there and the fragility of this relationship. “I’ve been blown away by its success and I hope that people of all ages at Skypark will enjoy seeing ‘The World Animal Map’ collection as they work.” ‘The World Animal Map’ exhibition opens in May 2017 in Skypark 1.
