WELCOME Hello and welcome to the new issue of Skyline! Where does the time go?! Spring has arrived already and 2015 is shaping up to be a very busy year for Skypark. We're pleased as punch to announce a spate of new arrivals to Scotland's biggest business campus: Spriing and Peninsula have all moved into their new offices and we have exclusive interviews with them on pages 6 and 14. Elsewhere a brand new cafe has opened up on-site, giving tenants another lunchtime option to go to in addition to all the great places to eat near Skypark. Create Café offers unique Nespresso coffees and other fabulous foodstuffs, which you can hear more about on page 10. We're really excited about the first exhibitions to be held in the reception since the refurbishment. Skypark tenant DC Thomson has curated a brilliant exhibition featuring unique artwork from their archives, so if you're a big Beano fan flick to page 4 to find out more! Once that exhibition is over, we've got a stunning selection of paintings by Lesley Banks to go on the walls from April 20th – more information about the award-winning artist is on page 18. Then there's the various charity activities by tenants, the latest competitions featuring amazing prizes open only for those at Skypark tenants, and the nifty Skyperk discounts and offers – all of which can be found online, so keep an eye out for them to see if something takes your fancy! Big welcome to Oor Wullie, The Broons and Dennis The Menace for exclusive I expo! I
f you’re a fan of Pa Broon’s miserly ways or Dennis and Gnasher’s antics, then a new exhibition in Skypark 1 might be just the thing for you! Featuring Dudley D. Watkins’ artwork, giant Dandy annual covers and other unique prints from the DC Thomson archive, this new expo will be open for Skypark tenants and the public on the ground floor of Skypark 1 from 17th February to 17th April.

n 2013 DC Thomson took space at Skypark for the company’s Glasgowbased staff, which includes some of the Sunday Post’s editorial team. Since then DC Thomson and Skypark have been hard at work trying to organise an exclusive exhibition of artwork so that everyone on-site can benefit from the publisher’s long and illustrious history in the comics industry – and we’re happy to announce it’s finally ready for all our wonderful Skypark tenants! Peninsula sets up new Scottish base in Skypark 5! W
e’re delighted to welcome new tenant Peninsula onto our buzzing business campus! The employment law consultancy company will move into Skypark 5, and Skyline sat down with Alan Price, Managing Director of Peninsula Scotland, to give us an idea of what the company is about and its plans for its new future in Finnieston.

What does Peninsula do? Peninsula are the UK’s largest employment law and health & safety consultancy, advising close to 30,000 UK employers on best practice HR and health & safety compliance. What projects are on the horizon for Peninsula? We will be assisting Scottish businesses with their HR and employment law needs, ensuring that they are complying with their legal obligations and showing them how to get the best productivity from their workforce. We will also be assisting businesses with employee wellbeing solutions to ensure that they =have a healthy workforce. On top of that we will work with employers to reduce the risk of workplace accidents, providing practical and pragmatic advice and guidance.
When was the company established? Fred and Peter Done, shareholders in the successful UK chain of betting shops Betfred, identified a business opportunity back in 1983 after their bookmaking business was taken to an employment tribunal. Sadly, they had to fork out at the hearing and Peter Done thought it was unfair that a lack of poor advice meant that he had to pay out. They set up a small consultancy to provide employment law and health & safety advice to small and mediumsized businesses in 1983, and it has grown significantly since then: Peninsula is not only a Top 100 Sunday Times Best Company To Work For, but was also named by The Sunday Times as one of the fastest growing companies in the UK. How many employees will work at Skypark? There will be 70 employees based at Skypark before the end of 2015 – this will likely increase as time goes by and where there is an increased need in the business. Why move to Skypark? We wanted to be in a better position to advise employers in Scotland; we look after the employment law and health & safety affairs of over 11,000 Scottish businesses at the moment. I wanted to be able to service them more thoroughly by using consultants who know the area and realise the obstacles that businesses face in Scotland, rather than relying on a company that was based in Manchester. That’s why we set up Peninsula Scotland, and as a result we are in the process of hiring and eager to recruit skilled workers from the local area.

Skypark 5 Facelift Underway...

kypark 5 is following the rest of the business campus by going through a wide-ranging renovation, with ÂŁ2.5 million to be spent on redesigning 70,000 sq ft of work space.

Find your inner Mastermind at Skypark’s music quiz!
On Thursday 12 March general knowledge buffs at Skypark will be flexing their intellectual muscles in a music quiz event in aid of Finding Your Feet. Finding Your Feet, a Skypark tenant, was set up by Corinne Hutton who in 2013 lost her hands and feet to septicaemia, and the charity is dedicated to helping those in a similar situation to ‘find their feet’ in life. All the proceeds from the raffle to the ticket entry prices will be going direct to Finding Your Feet, and there’ll be a licensed bar, music and prizes – so if you fancy giving some support to FYF and showing off your brainpower, why not come along from 5 till 8pm on Thursday 12 March in Suite 4/1, level 4, Skypark 1. veryone at Skypark would like to say a big hello to one of our newest tenants, Spriing! The digital design agency has moved into Skypark 3 and to give us a better idea of what sort of work they do, we spoke with Julie Poignot just after they moved into their sparkling new office space.

What does Spriing do? We’re a multi-faceted agency with a wealth of experience in mobile app and web technology. Our services include complex app and web design, in-house development and testing, digital service design, digital product ownership and big data visualisation. Are there any specific projects or services to highlight? We’re lucky to have worked with a variety of businesses across a spectrum of industry sectors. For example, we developed an all-in-one collaboration tool for medical professionals to contact their peers around the world called Uniquedoc. Tasked with creating a product that fosters an online global community of healthcare professionals, Spriing combined the positive elements of current communication and social tools, such as Skype, WhatsApp and LinkedIn, to provide a completely secure platform for improved healthcare communication and collaboration that, crucially, complied with relevant national standards and statutory regulations. Among our other clients, we’ve also worked with Scottish start-up Veeemotion to revolutionise the world of video sharing, and we’ve created a service incident enterprise app for a global bank - an extremely complex piece of software for one of the world’s largest financial services firms. There’s also our “My Tartan” app,

produced for local firm Houstons Kiltmakers, which won the App of the Year award at the the Scottish Creative Awards. When was the company established? Spriing launched in 2010 with the opening of our first studio in Middlesbrough. A few years later in 2013 our Glasgow studio was set up to meet the demand and size of our ever-growing Scottish client base. 2015 is set to be an exciting year for us with the potential opening of an office in Austrailia, so watch this space! How many employees are based at Skypark? We currently have a team of seven working at Skypark – having just moved from a smaller office in the city centre, we now have plenty of space to grow our team!
Why move to Skypark? We struggled to find studio space in Glasgow that met the needs of our agency and team. Location and space were our two biggest concerns when hunting for our new office. Skypark provides everything we could ever need: accessible space near transport links, high-speed Internet connection, on-site parking, private meeting space and a view to die for! with our lists and a look at some Chinese money. The children loved noodles, lychees, spring rolls and prawn crackers but were not too keen on soy sauce and seaweed. The man brought out live lobsters and crabs which fascinated most of the children.
“As ever, our children enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. The older children designed and built their own Great Wall of China having worked out it would take a long time to walk along the actual wall.
“Being the year of the sheep, we had lots of interesting friezes and masks. Our expressive arts teacher taught the children a great dragon dance which involved lots of painted boxes and a fair amount of mayhem.
“We visited the local Chinese supermarket and bought food to take back to the nursery. The children made a shopping list and took money to pay, even remembering to take their recycled bags with them. We are tasked with providing financial education so we ticked lots of boxes

Skypark’s ‘Recipes for Success’ – the perfect gift for Mother’s Day!

ack in December Skypark teamed up with Cash for Kids to release ‘Recipes for Success’, a brand new cookbook full of recipes donated by Skypark tenants, celebrities, Clyde DJs and chefs from Scotland’s leading restaurants – with all proceeds from sales going direct to Scotland’s neediest kids. 39 recipes in total were donated by contributors, ranging from actress Elaine C Smith to Red Onion’s John Quigley, as well as Olympian Katherine Grainger, Clyde 1 DJ George Bowie and TV chef Nick Nairn, not to mention the many Skypark tenants who happen to be dab hands in the kitchen! Recipe writers donated their idea of a ‘recipe for success’, which could mean anything from a successful start to the day to a successful way of making sure kids eat an off-putting ingredient. Skypark’s ‘Recipes for Success’ is still available for £10 and can be purchased from the reception of Skypark 1. Glasgow meets Venice in Spring Art Exhibition

rom Monday 20th April Skypark’s walls will offer views of the Kibble Palace and Tuscan landscapes as a new art exhibition begins in the reception of Skypark 1! The featured artist, Lesley Banks, paints in themes inspired by Glasgow and Italy and this oil-based selection will showcase those two locations depicted in Banks’ atmospheric style.

Lesley Banks studied at the Glasgow School of Art and since 1989 has been a full-time painter. The award-winning artist has had solo exhibitions in places such as Singapore, London and Bath, and in 1999 was even the Artist in Residence at Edinburgh Zoo! Her work has appeared in group exhibitions in various galleries across Scotland and the US, and her paintings can be found in private collections across the world as well as places closer to home like Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Lesley’s exhibition at Skypark will run from 20th April to 7th June. There will be a preview evening on Thursday 23rd April 6-8pm which Lesley will be coming to, and giclée prints will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition. What’s your most prized wardrobe item? I share my birthday with two other girls I grew up with so inevitably we had a joint 21st birthday party. This kick started the standard ‘what are you going to wear’ conversation and the onslaught of dress pictures sent to my inbox. Following this I opted to go in a fabulous, glittery, Ted Baker suit with satin lapels and floral shirt instead and to this day, I think even Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is to top it.
What’s your most prized wardrobe item? It has to be a femme fatale necklace by Stella & Dot. It goes with almost anything so I pop it on at any opportunity.
What’s your biggest fashion disaster? This is a hard question. Personally, I would say that I have never had a fashion disaster however I fear all my friends and work colleagues would argue my wardrobe is full of them! One we could all agree on though is probably the day I left the house without a skirt. Luckily, I noticed before getting to the office as I fear that a ‘tights only’ outfit would be pushing the ‘smart office attire’ guidelines!
