Welcome to the fourth edition of Skyline: Fairs and Festivals
It's a busy time at Skypark with so much happening! With Halloween celebrations and Christmas looming there are plenty of good excuses for us to have fun with our residents! We have a fabulously festive fair coming on 1st December with music and a dozen fascinating gift opportunities to tempt you. Just in case you need more inspiration we have big names coming on 15th December to our site social with House of Fraser and Origins from John Lewis to help you fill those stockings. As ever we will have heartwarming song from our nursery children and seasonal music from The Scottish Conservatoire. We'd like to introduce you to our new Centre Manager, Malcolm - please say hello to him as he will be co-hosting the Christmas events in reception. He's keen to meet you!

Fair First Last month her cars made out of fudge were a big talking point at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards, now Sweet Fee will be vrooming along to the Skypark Christmas Fair to tempt you with her traditional handmade tablet, macaroon and other tempting treats. Run by Young Entrepreneur of the Year award winner Fiona Simpson (23), the company was launched last year with the intention of providing an outlet for people to indulge themselves. Go on – indulge!

A festive site social will be held on December 15th. The children from the Four Seasons Nursery will be weaving their magic by coming along to sing Christmas carols at 1pm on the day, with additional music from a string quartet. There will be some retail therapy for last minute gift ideas, with the return of some of the pop-up shops most loved by our tenants in recent months. For the art lovers among you, look out for an appearance by Art Pistol, who will be staging a mini-exhibition and selling prints priced from £10-£50, depending on size. There will also be wine, soft drinks and treats from the Skypark team to wish all their tenants all the best for the festive season. Look out for updates on facebook.

SOCIAL CALENDAR KICKS OFF 2012 Skypark will be launching a new series of fitness classes during the week of January 9th. They even hope to have a new boxercise class in place to help fight off the festive spare tyre...watch this space! Look out for the first site social of the New Year, scheduled for 9th February. The second big event of 2012 is pencilled in for the first week in March. Keep an eye on the Skypark website and facebook for updates....see you there!
Paul McArdie has launched a new CARDIO COMBAT class, a calorie-busting (non contact) workout using various styles of martial arts. Classes run every Tuesday evening at 5.45pm in Skypark 1 suite 2/1 and will be priced at £3.50. All levels of fitness are welcome. For more details please email: Kelly@skypark-glasgow.com Carole Bruce will introduce a lunchtime ZUMBA TONING class, try a FREE taster session on Thursday 12th January. £3 per class thereafter, 12.10 - 12.55pm in Suite 2/1, Skypark 1. Carole also runs the Zumba basic and toning class on Monday evening, 5.30-6.15 & 6.15-7pm. £5 for both classes or £3 each. Please note: dumb bells are required for the zumba toning class. ART ON SHOW In the reception at Skypark an exhibition is being staged by Lei Liu, a fine art painting and printmaking student from the Glasgow School of Art. President of the Glasgow Chinese Students and Scholars Association, Lei is a past student of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China and has previously staged exhibitions in London and in his home country. ‘ONWARDS AND UPWARDS’

his month work began on a revamp of the gateway to Skypark.
A major remodel of the ramp and entrance is underway, and by the Spring of 2012 the first phase of development will be complete with a new tenants area and retail services onsite to follow. The works were launched as Moorfield Group and Resonance Capital celebrated a successful first year since taking over as joint venture partners in Skypark in November 2010 – a year which saw them bring five new lettings into the complex, including the Glasgow School of Art as a major tenant. But according to Angela Higgins, Director of Resonance Capital, it’s the cutting edge services developing at Skypark which are setting the site apart. She said: “A major driver of the site is the development of our onsite customer services and building a business community for our tenants to take part in and enjoy.
CHRISTMAS CLEAR-OUT Skypark have just agreed a brand new facility onsite to allow tenants to make donations of unwanted items to Barnardos. The new service will operate once a month, timed with social events, with the first drop-off getting underway at the festive social on December 15. Why not clear out your wardrobe of good condition clothing, handbags and accessories – and raise money for a good cause at the same time? Drop off your wares to Kelly in our main reception, or at Barnardos offices on the 5th floor of Skypark 5, Finnieston St. We are happy to arrange collection of bags from your office and delivery to Barnardos, just call 0141 221 6868.
“ Having a fully trained hotel concierge at reception means our tenants can tap into expertise on hotel bookings, restaurant recommendations, taxis and even flower delivery.
“ We see Skypark creating a new ‘business hotel’ concept in Scotland.” As well as the upgrading of the Skypark entrance ramp, and repositioning of the main entrance, the remodelling works will upgrade the main reception, develop new retail facilities, install a tenants seating area, refurbish lift lobbies and upgrade the upper floors.
MACMILLAN MAGIC The Skypark community showed they are a big-hearted bunch when they threw themselves wholeheartedly into the caffeine fuelled fun of The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The event raised £213 for Macmillan Cancer Support and involved some input from the nursery who baked scones for the site-wide fundraiser. Special thanks to Kirsty Fitzgerald from the Hidden Lane Tearoom for donating a variety of delicious cakes to the coffee morning and to Angela, Kelly, Lisa and Camille from the Skypark team for their donations for a worthy cause.
YOUTH CAFE SUPPORT Anderston Youth Café is a voluntary project in the process of being set up close to Skypark. The area has had a problem in the past with antisocial behaviour and in particular under age drinking. The project aims to provide a safe meeting place for young people, where they can engage in a variety of activities, without cost and to encourage the young people to take responsibility for improving aspects of the local community. Skypark management team are already providing support to the project and would appreciate any board games, consols etc that you may be able to donate. If you are able to help please pass your donations to Robert Gorman at V.Ships on the 5th floor of Skypark 1, on 8th & 9th December, they are all very much appreciated.

LA Beauty A new onsite beauty service has been launched at Skypark, just in time for the party season. All Skypark residents will receive a 20% discount on a range of beauty treatments.
Four Seasons Nursery Skypark’s very own Nursery, Four Seasons, provides a high quality childcare service on your doorstep. Four Seasons has been established since 1995, catering for children aged 3 months to 5 years old. The nursery is also registered for out-of-school places for children aged 5 to 12. The nursery is open between 8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, and is located at Level 0. The entrance is between the rear entrance to the SP1 Reception and the entrance to SP2.
Packages range from full ‘Glam It Up’ packages, including Hollywood Lashes, acrylic or Jessica Geleration nails & Hollywood toes for £59, to £20 party packages of nails and corner lashes – down to practical eyebrow waxes and file and polish sessions you can fit in your lunch hour. Reach Pharmacy offers the full range of community pharmacy services, from stop smoking programmes to repeat prescriptions, from health checks (i.e. on diabetes and cholesterol) to all-year round travel vaccinations.
Reach Pharmacy, an award-winning pharmacy, will be supporting the healthcare and well-being needs of Skypark residents by providing a daily collection delivery service. This will allow you to deposit prescriptions safely and securely in the special white box, located at main reception. Prescription slips left before 10am will be processed and the prepared medication delivered to individual office sites by 1pm on the same day. here were all kind of spooky goings-on at the Hallowe’en site social.
The children from Four Seasons Nursery came over to entertain the crowds with some specially prepared songs for the occasion, with additional entertainment from visiting musician Calum Huggan on xylophone. Pop-up shops on the day included Sydneys cup cakes, Cheap Slap and Simoon Gifts. There were some added bargains for partygoers with Dr Bike on site providing
free tune ups for bikes, while the girls from Hobs were onsite offering up to 90% off printing and other services. Lei Liu, the current on-site artist at Skypark, also came along to the social and provided complimentary chinese beer, herbal tea and nibbles. RHIANNON INMAN SIMPSON orn and educated in London, where she is currently based, Rhiannon Inman Simpson studied at The Glasgow School of Art, achieving a BA Hons degree in Fine Art. Last year she studied at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, before embarking on a period of travel across the United States and Canada, a period which has proven to be the inspiration for her latest paintings, which will go on show at Skypark in January. She spoke to Skyline about her influences and her love for the city which will host her latest exhibition . .

How did you enjoy your time at the Glasgow School of Art? It was a very inspiring place to study. I have a real attachment to the Mackintosh building itself, it has such a magic to it. And just being surrounded by people who are so passionate and committed to their work was wonderful. What did you like about your time in Glasgow and are you enjoying returning to the city to stage this new exhibtion? I loved the city itself, the uniqueness of it, and I also enjoyed the variety of landscapes you can get to so easily from Glasgow. Coming from London, it was a real treat to be able to be able to get out of the city so easily and jump on a train to the mountains or the coast for the day. I’m very much looking forward to returning to Glasgow to exhibit work, and might have a much needed trip to sit on a mountain top whilst I’m there! Can you tell us a little about the work you will be displaying at Skypark? I spent this summer travelling and camping around the States and Canada and have been making some new work in response to the diverse and strange landscapes I encountered along the way. I’d like to show some of these pieces alongside paintings of British places. I am drawn to landscapes that have an otherworldly quality, that have a sense of timelessness and isolation, and feel the paintings are as much an investigation of an imaginative space as a physical one. What environment do you normally work in? I like to walk and I feel that is always the starting point for new work. On these walks I will generally either sketch or paint small studies, write a few words down and take photographs, and bring these back to my studio to work from. What are your influences? I’m fascinated by the history of British landscape, it’s such a long standing tradition. I love painters like Paul Nash and Ivon Hitchens; their sense of colour and individual ways of exploring the land. I love Richard Long’s work and am interested in the connection between language and landscape. Literature and poetry are really important to me. Although you are currently based in London, do you enjoy travelling and exhibiting your work in other cities? I’m always itching to travel! In March I’m going to Iceland to be the artist in residence in a small gallery just outside of Reykjavik for a month. I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with going to Iceland, there’s something about the landscape that seems so otherworldly, so I’m very excited to be given the time and space to just explore a new environment and make work responding to it.
